• Audience 8.9 - A great effort here by the taper, it’s got a little bit of that “just about to break” quality, where the limits of the tape are just about reached…yet it holds together. This gives the recording an unmistakable intensity, and for that I rate this highly and say it will be most enjoyable to the listener. • Audience 8.8 - A tape that had the bones of a great recording but was buried under prevalent hiss and overall dullness…until now. A marvelous re-mastering has been done on this long forgotten old tape and it is now a little jewel for the collectors. A lot of good stuff lies herein.

  • Audience 8.8 - Previously available as a single track, Watcher Of The Skies was merely a taste of a tantalizing recording that has now been painstakingly restored from the original master cassette and it reveals much more than collectors could have imagined. A really good tape it is, with a nice intimate clarity (relative to the overall mix) of vocals, and a satisfying “thwack” of the drums…I found myself mesmerized by this show and especially a sparkling rendition of “Supper’s Ready”.

  • Soundboard 9.4 - First of all, this is a guitar fest, and definitely seems a harder rockin’ affair than what one might expect…notwithstanding the more acoustic songs…those seem to rock too! I suppose that is what happens when you have guys like Mick Taylor and Ian MacLagen in the band!

  • Audience 9.2 - Very nice job by taper to capture a show on good gear that allows the listener to feel a part of the experience – yes there’s some hoots and hollers but you won’t be annoyed, you will kind of agree and maybe do the same. The recording is close and bright with amazing atmospherics.

  • Soundboard 9.5 - Somewhat controversial, this tour declared to the world that Bob Dylan would not be owned by a corporation, a label, any entity of this earth…so yeah, when you have something to prove you come out swinging. This stuff is actually some of his best stuff, even if there’s that unmistakable gospel and soul influence, it’s still very much Bob Dylan music. Excellent sound, but if I had to be hyper critical of anything it would be my own personal desire for louder lead guitars.

  • Audience 9.2 - I rate this one highly because it has a unique quality to it. First though, it’s a good recording, but interestingly it gives a clear and powerful representation to the often overlooked and seldom FELT kick drum. This instrument is kind of crucial to the sound of a heavy metal band, especially one whose primary power source is closer to the bottom end of the sound spectrum. So, a nicely defined and powerful kick drum propels this show in ways others do not. Highly recommended!

  • Audience 9.3 - The great thing about this performer is that his sound and style is timeless – it might as well be 1976 because after listening to his shows from the 70’s, I can’t tell much difference between then and this 1990 show. The show sounds great, it is rich and full bodied with an especially beautiful drum sound and bass is meaty without being overbearing although it sometimes shakes your speakers!

Long considered by Deadheads as being the pinnacle shows of the entire 72 tour, the “Texas Swing” stand of shows (Austin, Dallas, San Antonio, Houston) just present so much incredible music and vibe that it’s hard to believe your ears. • Audience 8.9 - One thing for certain, you can’t knock this recording for not having enough wide open and bright atmosphere!  Holy crap it’s got that in spades, at maybe at a little expense of the lower register – although the bass is present in a sort of brassy and sassy kind of way. If you want to hear that guitar detail and don’t mind that the recording favors that sort of mid band/upper high range of sound and less emphasis on deep bottom end (most people would prefer not being overloaded with bass as it tends to muddy the sound) than you will like this a lot. I did not miss having phatness in the bottom end because I cranked up my bass on the EQ and lo-and-behold there was bass! • Soundboard 9.4 - A newly remastered version of the matinee soundboard show in all it’s glory restored – with bonus material from Seattle, this is well worth re-examining because I found it to be a really pro job, and you don’t have to suffer through the inferior audience tape thrown in because quite honestly there would be no point at all. • Milwaukee 1980 FM Broadcast 8.7 - This was broadcast, the question is, was it recorded professionally and did it sound like this when it was aired?  Probably it did not sound like this – because this is below the threshold for what is acceptable for a legitimately broadcast live performance which means it is probably an off-air tape that has suffered from degradation. That being said, it’s been re-mastered and it sounds decent enough to be included in a set which features all soundboards so that says something for it. Vancouver 1981 FM Broadcast 8.8 - This is another one of those not quite living up to radio broadcast expectations probably due to a capture off the air onto cassette tape, regardless it still sounds fine just a bit dated. A re-mastering helped considerably and that is why the show is included in this set. Dortmund 1982 Soundboard 9.1 - Sounds like a large, open air stadium and that atmosphere is preserved onto the tape. A really decent one for the collectors out there. Daytona 1984 Soundboard 9.2 - Wow, the 80’s, and the unique obsession with that (now very dated) certain drum sound that can take any song and make it “new wave” ha ha!  Thankfully it’s not the case on every song otherwise I would have said skip this show, but it’s a good, well recorded one so enjoy it. Raleigh 1985 Soundboard 9.4 - Good hard panning of the guitars so that you can distinctly hear each of them as autonomous instruments. A hard rocking sound was mixed on this evening. • Audience 9.4 - I love recordings like this! Super loud but not distorted, and right in your face like your sitting on Rory’s side of the PA. It is like the sound is ripping the cloth off the speaker and filling the entire room with fury. Killer! • Soundboard 9.4 - A lovely capture that was broadcast over the air but this sounds like a pre-broadcast tape and it’s excellent. I especially like how the atmosphere of the event was maintained, it’s not a sterile sounding mix.
