Studio quality 9.6 - production on this is outstanding and flows nicely. Well thought out, and as comprehensive as it needs to be so it has a wider appeal and includes casual fans as well as seasoned collectors. The DVD is a nice touch!

Audience 9.4 - This recording consists of a matrix between both an audience recorded tape and a stand-alone video recorder audio, and together (when both are rolling and in-sync) they have a wonderful stereo pan effect and sweet, clean quality. Audience 8.7 - This is a really good, but flawed, recording. The good points are that it is clear, and has unmistakable stereo panning, and a LOT of good live atmosphere (not the obnoxious audience kind of atmosphere!). The flaws are that taper is working hard (to his credit) to get into a sweet spot and while doing this the signal to his deck fades in and out slightly - the effect is one of phasing, so it's not a deal-breaker flaw it's just you have to accept that vocals and what not at times sound really far back and then sound much closer...at various points during the show (I should say guitar does this too, maybe less often). The reason why you'll stick it out is because when it is good...it's great. Audience 8.7 - This is a decent tape that delivers some sense of the venue and the power of the band in a live setting, it's not "relaxed" sounding but definitely hard rock music at volume...but that being said there is some slight harmonic distortion somewhere in the upper mid band range, and if you had to choose where your live recording suffered, it would be here because it doesn't do as much damage to the sound taken as a whole as you might suppose. It's still a really good recording...with limitations. FM Broadcast 8.9 - Good because it's a broadcast, but there is some compression so you do not get the crisp, soaring highs and separation of instruments is not perfect. It's a somewhat "rough" professional recording and I am not talking about just age or generation of tape either - some of this is probably in the actual recording and/or live sound mix. That being said - it's a really good tape nonetheless and worthy of your collection. Blue Oyster Cult Centrum Worcester, MA. September 24, 1982 01. Pre-show interview 02. Brand New - Recorded Live At M3 Rock Festival in 2012. The live album that was missing! Ratt live during “Infestation” era delivering an amazing show full of classic tunes with Warren Dimartini and Carlos Cavazo delivering a great guitar work along with a tight rhythmic section with Crucier and Blotzer together fronted by Stephen Percy still singing great. One of the last opportunity to listen to all this guys together on stage.

Brand New - This recording of Anvil's set from the 2nd Classic Metal Fest at Phantasy Nite Club, Cleveland, Ohio, USA on 12th July 2002 was professionally made for a prospective live album which never came to fruition. The whole set was then mixed & produced by Joe Kleon at G4orce Studios. Until today the idea of a live album remained shelved.

Brand New - Def Leppard played a "Slang tour" show in Johannesburg, South Africa on 5th December 1996. 13 songs from the show were recorded for broadcast. The band played in front of 37,500 ecstatic and very loud fans. This was the first of three stadium shows played on the mini tour of the country.
-
Audience 8.8 - A rather good tape, it's kind of rare to find something like this just because of the extreme volume and what not that metal presents to taping gear - but this one shines. Sometimes the rhythm guitar seems to drop out a little in the mix, every now and then but that might be a PA or mix thing. Audience 8.7 - Loud and brassy, with some distortion on the cymbals at the high end. Taper must have been in the front row on the PA side of the stage. That being said, this is what makes this recording frightening to the ears, a terrifying journey into the unrelenting power and charisma of ELP in their mid 70's prime. There is nothing sedate about this live concert experience, and because it was recorded on very good equipment, even despite the overwhelming loudness of it, it's a rather true representation. Side Note: Jerusalem is a song with more mellow passages and here this recording absolutely shines, jumping quickly to a 9.2 rating and actually remaining better even during the loud segments as it starts to even out - this could be due to taper either moving further back, or making some other minor adjustment. Something certainly is changing with the recording as tape noise increases but the distortion lessens, this could mean he lowered the gain, so the volume had to be boosted during the transfer as his recording levels were much lower. Either way, it had a net positive effect. Unfortunately not the complete show. Audience 8.4 - This is not hi-fi by any stretch, but what it represents is a rollicking good time as only this band was capable of doing. In the mix is mostly Ron Wood and Rod Stewart, with a overdriving bass backbone that forces the intensity of the sound volume. It's a full bodied tape, no bones about it. With modern mastering tools, it has been brought under control...somewhat. Hey, I have heard MUCH worse than this, and once the ears settle in to it, what you have is a recording that delivers the fun and electricity of The Faces. Audience 9.8 - Ethereal, intense, clear, atmospheric, and just about as good as your ears can perceive an audio recording to be. The sound mix is just spot on, and each instrument occupying it's own space just allows you to take a minute here and there to focus on whatever instrument you want...but always drawing back to Steve because let's face it he's a total badass. Soundboard 9.1 - A somewhat dated sounding tape (a touch of hiss, and a very slight amount of distortion on the cymbals during at least the first 20 minutes as the soundman dials it in) but it is a treat to hear these songs in such good quality. My review is subjective, I think it's a fine recording but I have to nitpick seeing as there's a very steady supply of Santana soundboards. Audience 8.4 - A distant recording without a lot of dynamics but the audio is clear enough especially vocals and guitar. Low end is not in abundance but the bass notes are audible and distinct which helps this tape become something collectors should want, it is, after all, a 1975 concert and fills that part of the collection. The take-away? A guitar-centric tape, a great show, worthy of the collection but not winning any awards for scintillating dynamics. Werchter - Audience 8.8 - A definite party-vibe this night in Belgium, the band is hot and the sound is pumping (great low end). Brussels - Audience 8.9 - Very similar to the Werchter tape with maybe more audience participation. The main difference to my ears is the guitar, where it sits in the mix, it is a tad better, brighter, more forward in this recordings. The low end here is a little tighter too.

Audience 9.4 - Absolutely fantastic tape! This gives you everything and more, including some intangible aspects that people ought not to disregard, and that is atmosphere. What was it like at the show? I want that immersive experience, and I want a clear sounding tape, and I am willing to forgive the lack of some dynamics in exchange for that - but here you don't have to make that sacrifice because this recording is VERY dynamic! I love the meaty drums, and vocals are soaring above and very clear. Guitar is MONSTEROUS too, and mixed properly. This is almost a must have, actually it is good enough to be a top 5 at least for the Tony Martin era. Soundboard 8.8 - Not the best mix, you won't get everything in a vibrant, democratically mixed way but even so it's going to deliver in other ways for you. The vocals are living room clear, organ and drums occupy the next level of bandwidth, and then comes bass...leaving guitars in the background until they are brought forward during solos or during some of the songs where guitar is a key component. It's spotty there, but seems to come and go in the mix (when it comes it is fine, but then it oddly disappears). Audience 8.9 - Quite an interesting tape, the proximity to the stage makes the energy palpable - good mix of both guitars and the amazing tone they had at this time. I am happy to say that this is well balanced, with a decent sonic quality that makes it more interesting to the ears than a board tape. Glasgow - Audience 8.7 - A great tape to hear the very beginnings of Ozzy's solo career. and the brilliance of Randy Rhoads. Clear, and decent separation of instruments. Newcastle - Audience 8.5 - Slightly muddy but it has the bones of a good tape recording. I feel like if this old tape was re-mastered with AI tools it would shine. Nothing is buried beyond salvation here, in fact I would say if you just keep listening your ears adjust to the sound and it gets better and better. Thankfully guitars are distinct, vocals too, it is really the bottom end that is a bit diffuse and rumbly. Audience 8.8 - Anytime you get a halfway decent sounding GFR show you grab it, because let's face it these guys were just balls to the wall loud and normal taping gear could not handle it. But, every once in a while you find something...and again it serves to remind just how badass this band was. This is a really good recording considering how mind-numbingly loud it had to be there. It is not clear as a bell, but it's got some great qualities and is clear enough to hear each band member well...and the POWER geez, oh man it's insane here. Soundboard 8.8 - This is the one the fans have all been waiting for. There are a lot of recordings out there from this period but NONE sound like this! Ferocious! The drums are frightening, vocals up front and scary AF. Midrange is a little busy, but it all sounds so much better than what I am used to listening to, and you know the reality is that unless you are listening to a board tape, this band is damn hard to listen to just because of the cacophony they generate on stage. So, the consensus here is that this has to be considered as a MUST have. SLAYER Blue Moon Oberhausen, Germany 20th June 1985 1. Introduction 2. Hell Awaits 3. Aggressive Perfector 4. Captor of Sin 5. Released by the reformed band in 2013 in a very limited run on CD-R, this is actually that same title re-worked. The audio is the same but the package is expanded, the original was a very simple, black and white 4 panel sheet with nothing printed inside and the disc placed in without any protection. It was a CD-R burn in fact, and basically my understanding was it wasn't even sold but handed out to people, family, friends, fans, etc. Not even sure how many they made, probably less than 1,000 for sure. They are all gone now, but this re-worked version supersedes that with the upgraded packaging.

Audience 8.7 - This is a GREAT 8.7, and what I mean is that while technically speaking the sonics are not ideal, the entirety of this recording is GREAT! It has a feel to it, it captures a moment in a highly tangible way, from the feeling of being in the pit, to the sense of time and space, and the "in your face" nature of the audio itself. All in all I really enjoyed this for what it is and it is something I can definitely recommend highly. Brand New - Live Marquee Club November 29th, 1985 and demos early '85 and late '86. Butler formed a short-lived group in 1984 after leaving Black Sabbath for the first time. Butler wrote some songs intended for the project, but the group did not record or release any material. This mid-80s project featured a fascinating hodgepodge of players as the bass legend was joined by Sabbath's touring keyboardist Jezz Woodroffe and Persian Risk's vocalist Carl Sentence among others. The band was never able to release anything beyond a couple of demos that remain a fascinating relic.
