Complex prog rock inspired by Genesis primarily but you will hear a lot of different things that might remind you of any of a dozen other bands. These guys were just playing music they loved and did not mind if it crossed genre too much. They began in Houston in 1970, the CD contains liner notes so you get more of their history. Very cool stuff! -

Excellent Soundboard recording of a highly regarded Texas rock group prominent in the mid '70's. They played an original, hybrid progressive, upbeat hard rock along with more Austin, Texas flavored "Tex-Mex" Southern infused rock and roll...like I said a hybrid style. Unfortunately it did not take hold anywhere outside of Austin, so it remained undiscovered but certainly in Texas the name is extremely well respected as it should be. Well worth discovering for yourself! -

Audience 9.0 - This rating is representing a lot more than strictly audio fidelity, because truth be told it’s more of an 8.7 for sound, but the show, and the crowd, and the atmosphere…simply incredible! It’s also important to note that this show is the last live recording of Bon Scott. -
Begun in Houston in 1969, brothers Duane and Bill Massey created an eclectic hard rocking progressive rock band that survived numerous line-up changes over the years and still exists to this day. An album, "Ruff Mix", was released in 1975 and features excellent arrangements augmented with blazing electric guitar by Richard Heath who went on to join Lic. This CD captures them in the early 80's where more emphasis was placed on hard guitar sounds, not necessarily metal but good Texas hard rock. -
Audience 9.3 - Technically the sonic quality here is more likely an 8.9 but this tape gets a MAJOR boost because, quite simply, it’s one of the most incredible, insane, unbelievable things Deep Purple I have ever experienced. Audience 8.5-9.1 All in all, for what you are privy to hear in this collection (some pretty darn rare bits!), it’s pretty good and listenable. It sounds to me that the band, from 1973 and again a few years later in 1975/78 REALLY progressed, it’s almost like night and day. Audience 9.3 - It never ceases to amaze me that after all these years tapes like this still keep surfacing. This is really clear and bright, I am having a tough time finding things to complain about here. There’s plenty of headroom to flavor the sound to your liking, if you want to add more bass, yeah, this is just a perfect palate to do so. Anything you do will only make it even better because the core audio is uniquely suited for attenuating without negative consequence. Formed in Dallas, TX. in 1970, they were very active gigging and recording (several 7" singles) and built a good size following by the time of their pinnacle in 1976. Their lead guitarist, Randy Nunnally, had even attracted the attention of National act Ted Nugent and was asked to join Ted as his guitarist for a tour. Unfortunately, at that same time, Randy was diagnosed with ALS and went downhill pretty fast, passing away a few short years later. This CD contains music found on their 7" singles as well as a fantastic live radio broadcast. All of the original master tapes were lost in a fire, this is all the music that could be found. The CD is dedicated to the memory of the late, great Randy Nunnally. -

Roslyn 1976 FM Broadcast 9.2 - Powerful! If you are not familiar with Tommy Bolin and want to learn more, start here! If you are already on the Tommy train – keep riding! This is unbelievably good! Detroit 1976 Audience 8.8 - This is a very good sounding tape in many regards although it is recorded in a large, cavernous arena and therefore you won’t get some of the detail a more intimate venue would give you. The vocals are somewhat drowned out by a guitar sound that is quite huge, with the bass complementing that hugeness to the degree that this show is a guitar/bass tour de force. Thankfully Tommy is the shining star in this recording…and shine he did. Yeah, sure, I know what you are thinking: “it’s mid 80’s Aerosmith, it’s the doldrums of rock, it’s a washed up bunch of druggies” but I have to tell you that if this marks a “comeback” then it’s the most amazing comeback I have ever heard. I’ve heard tons of live Aerosmith and I take this show over ALL of them. Pro 9.9 - this is unbelievably solid. Everything is in the pocket, which is awfully hard to do with a metal band. Every instrument, and the crowd mixed in to provide atmosphere. This had to be a broadcast, but it’s not from a broadcast it has to be a pre-broadcast master. I mean, it’s almost perfect. Audience 8.6 - A new tape to circulation and a most welcomed one. It’s certainly quite different and for Zep collectors will be analyzed incessantly and be shown as a “keeper” for many reasons. Soundboard 9.2 - Strong and clear as a board should be, but probably not mixed for a live album release, more for front of house sound which explains the interesting way the two guitars are panned…I rather like it. This allows you to really get the musicality of the performance and that is where this tape literally takes off. The playing is top shelf and worthy of paying serious attention to. On a side note, every now and then there will be a tape problem that resolves itself right away and I think this is present on the master. It is not a deal breaker at all, it happens few and far between. Audience 8.8 - Easily one of the best audience recordings of the tour. Very close to the main P.A. system on Tony’s side of the stage, this puts Ozzy a little in the background but not so much he cannot be heard reasonably well. It’s just, well, it’s the sheer POWER on display by the band that makes this one so special and that the recording manages to deliver that without glaring problems (and in 1973, wow!) is a miracle. Audience 9.2 - A recording that does more than merely capture a live concert on tape, it captures the dynamics and palpable vibe of the event. This is lovely stuff, with the band delivering stunning readings of majestic progressive rock numbers like Sound Chaser and Close To The Edge. To be honest, sometimes the overly jazzy keyboards of Moraz do conflict with the style and sound of the band but mostly he is able to provide the correct sounds during the key parts. I was not very knowledgeable of their live catalog (whatever is out there, IDK) and so I did not know what to expect with this. Man, just man, it literally BLEW me away! Just amazing in every way – and the playing, along with pristine sound quality, it’s just a no-brainer. I did not know how accomplished these guys were, the musicianship is off the charts good.
