Audience 9.1 - A very very nice taping effort, captured here with very decent gear so the quality speaks for itself. Position of taper is good, so a nice mix of the sound from the PA, all in all it’s a good one and highly recommended. There is another Wings LA Forum 1976 but it's taken from June 22 with some filler from the 23rd whereas this is the complete June 23rd show. Minden 1973 Audience 8.8 - One of the earliest concert recordings ever sourced! It sounds very good, decent equipment used, and maybe placed a little back in the club but otherwise it’s a lot better than it has a right to be. The band certainly evolved quite a bit from these early club days, but the character of the band never did. Fascinating document! Minden 1974 Audience 9.4 - What a difference a year makes, as the band return to the same club a year later and wreck the place! Extremely tasty, the recording does the band justice as it literally just leaps out of the speakers with maximum ferocity while retaining enough detail and depth to let you sit and listen in total awe. Audience 9.2 - What immediately strikes you about this recording is that Rick Wright’s synth sounds and effects are NOT window dressing! In fact, they are almost overwhelmingly loud at times during the concert. Now, what I like most about old recordings is when they reveal something to me I never knew – in this case I did not know or appreciate how much Rick’s work, however consequential during the song, was not mixed out or down by any stretch but you might think that judging on the myriad hundreds of tapes that exist that do not give you a true appreciation of the volume. This tape is insistent, relentless, and thankfully clear and dynamic. The middle and upper midrange is sometimes almost too much but never does it distort. Soundboard 9.0 - The unmistakable emphasis in this mix is the percussion (and to a lesser extent keyboards) but that makes for an interesting take on this one…you are forced to reckon with the powerhouse engine room for once, and with no regrets either. It’s still a good recording, and everyone else is there but you will know who’s taking the stage in the mix here. Audience 9.3 - A brilliant, dynamic, and exciting recording that anyone could enjoy. I mean, this sounds like it could be officially released…not 100% perfect but I would not be as thrilled about it if it was perfect. I don’t need perfection, I need a good blend of excellent audio and nice atmosphere and this tape has that. Soundboard 8.8 - A very old sounding tape that received a recent “facelift” giving it some more punch while reducing tape noise (without compromising any high end). What you end up with is another very good early performance (whilst the band was still doing some Pretties For You numbers) in very good quality. I never get tired of the early Alice Cooper stuff, even if I still don’t understand “Sun Arise” ha ha! Studio Quality 8.9 - The quality is great but you have to get past the first song and a half as there is some static present. Once you move past those tracks you get some very interesting studio rehearsals and outtakes. I love the rawness here, it’s very visceral and powerful. Audience 8.2 - A loud and raucous tape, with a band of noise in the upper mid frequency that prevents better separation of instruments. Saving grace? Duane is the clearest instrument on this recording – in fact it is his guitar that soars over the sound to the degree that you almost inevitably focus solely on him throughout. As it happens, Gregg’s vocals are next up in the mix. Audience 9.2 - This is a very well done Audience recording from very close to the stage. The music is clear and bright, and the mix of all instruments is really great too. I particularly think the drums sound very real, percussive, and just drive this performance in a very non “laid back” sort of way. Guitar has a lively tone, and as a bonus you get a finally that features Carlos Santana. Soundboard 8.9 - Mixed for television broadcast, the sound is a little better than your average videotape source audio in that it is not nearly as compressed sounding. Vocals are mixed hotter than normal but not too bad, some occasional channel disturbances that last seconds and are resolved and are few and far between so overall this is a real good one. Peoria 1970 Soundboard 9.3 - Excellent in all the ways you need it to be including the fact that it is from a period of time when the band was being rocketed to fame and the playing is at such a high level of intensity every night. This night is no exception. Nice to have the rarely played “It Better End Soon” on here. Seattle 1972 Audience 8.5 - A complete show in above average quality that collectors are going to savor. The sound quality is fine but for some crowded action right in the middle causing a lack of clarity (not muddy, bid difference!) but the EQ is good (balanced) and the sonic level is very high but not distorted which makes for an electric kind of tape. Chicago 1973 Audience 8.7 -This tape has some of that big hall echo on vocals but I like how clear it is otherwise. It is one of those tapes that allow you to get a good sense of what it probably sounded like there.
