Levittown 1981 FM Broadcast 9.3 - Crisp and nicely mixed for broadcast this recording does not suffer from any degradation or compression, it’s wonderful! London 1984 FM Broadcast 9.2 - Excellent quality recording with some atmosphere to give you a sense of space, so not what I would call a direct to board feed, it was recorded and mixed for air and has that distinct feel to it. Soundboard 9.1 - Fantastic! I’ve always known there was something recorded at the famous Whiskey-A-Go-Go by the band but had never run across it until now. It’s a nice and relaxed show with great guitar interplay (as usual) and tight backing (listen to Berry’s bass solo it’s on point). Soundboard 9.1/Audience 8.8 - An incomplete board tape that is completed by a very decent audience (thank goodness!) to present a great gig by a great band. Audience 8.8 - This came as a total surprise as I never knew it existed…and man, I gotta tell ya this is f’kin AWESOME! This is a band that is crucial to the burgeoning British punk movement but they owe more to the MC5 than the Sex Pistols. This one off show features the band going under the moniker The Doomed because they have a certain Lemmy Kilmister on bass. What a high energy, totally wild and crazy fun gig too! Good sound quality, thankfully! Great setlist with a nice handful of covers that highlight their influences (they even do Silver Machine from Hawkwind!). Audience 8.9 - A recording that seems to be, if I had to guess, somewhere mid crowd but manages to bring you closer to the action. Great separation of instruments and a clear capture with zero tape noise so you can almost hear the pot smoke swirling above your head ha ha! But, this is quite good, and mesmerizing, so have a great trip as you put your time machine headphones on and set it to Seattle in ’76. Audience 9.3 - This tape reminds me very much of the excellent Osaka 84 recording, it’s bright and atmospheric. I gave this one a very high rating because it’s right up there with the Osaka show. Soundboard 9.3 - A pretty crisp sounding board tape, it definitely has not been gen’d down I can tell you that for sure! The band is tight man, they've always been but here they sound frighteningly precise. For me, 1994 is not that long ago in my mind – but damn it’s 29 years ago YIKES! Audience 9.3 - A nicely done job this one. A warm sound, with emphasis on clear and crisp drums, bright vocals, detailed bass, and percussive keys but all in all really I find the sound mix relaxing and I sank right into this recording for the duration. Audience 8.7 - This tape has one thing really going for it, and that is it is surprisingly clear, maybe not super close to the stage but that means there’s no distortion…there’s also no boominess, and there’s some good live atmosphere. The mix is decent, and overall this tape can be really enjoyed by anyone but let me tell you why I love it – because they play my fave Thin Lizzy song “Opium Trail” so there ya go. Soundboard 9.2 & Audience 9.7 - Right away you are going to question this rating. Most of you will be familiar with the ’69 set as it is well traveled and professionally recorded and as such has a purity about it. Now, I like it, I like the purity and clarity and all of that, but just listen to the raw audience tape from 1972 and then tell me it doesn’t deserve the rating I give it. If you don’t hear the unbridled intensity, the electricity zapping the entire stadium and coming through your speakers directly into your head at full throttle, than just stop collecting right now and take up another hobby, maybe crochet or something. Audience 8.8 - This rates highly as a new audio tape discovery from decades ago you might have low expectations but it’s a good, clear (but for Alice being a little low in the mix) and I would say powerful show in sound and performance. Audience 8.7 A real surprise here because when I first came across this one I assumed it would be crap. Why had I not heard of it before if it was good? Well, sometimes stuff just slips through the cracks I guess. Soundboard 8.8 - A welcomed board tape that I knew nothing of previously before discovering it. Audience 8.8/9.1 - Two pretty good recordings with the second evening (July 4th) having the benefit of much more high end definition and overall clarity, with soaring headroom that makes for a generally relaxing listen, so you’ll tend to favor it more but that is not saying July 3rd is bad, it’s actually also very decent just not as clear and defined as the 4th. Audience 9.5 - Holy Moly this is RED HOT! The recording is right in your face but not distorted at all. It’s amazing how close this sounds, its super clear too. The only knock I have is that the bottom end is not as beefy as I would prefer. I really wanted more low end punch but if that is the only knock, then you probably should explore this one because not only is it great audio-wise but the playing is off the charts, and I mean seriously Jeff Beck and Stanley Clarke are at the absolute peak of Mount Everest here.
