• Soundboard 9.7 - A fantastic live document! I especially love how it was mixed, it has a very classic feel and seems drenched in sleazy nightclub atmosphere that puts you, mentally, in the right place for Boz Scaggs music. Awesome!

  • Audience 8.9 - Two different evenings in Boston, each three years apart. For one thing, it's a well balanced capture all the way around (both gigs). Hearing the differences between stadium acts performing in '74 and then in '77 reveals subtle changes in music and delivery. I like being able to notice things like that and sets like this really allow the listener to immerse themselves in their own analytics as they listen. The sound is very good especially because a well done remastering job refreshed the tapes. I love this, this is a treat for people who wished they got to hear the opening acts too but tapers seldom saved tape for them. • Audience 8.8 - Another amazing historical document that gives us the entire picture of what it was like to attend a rock concert in Boston in the early 70's. It's one evening out of 365 other evenings in the calendar year but it is a year that I did not get to experience anything like this, being that I was still in elementary school. It's a glaring example of what I was missing!  Taper was not only prescient in capturing all the acts but he manages to do so with minimal problems and in very decent quality. Original tape transfers received recent treatment and have never sounded better, it makes me wonder why this material never got picked up by any of the boot labels in Japan or Europe for production. • Audience 8.7 -  There is something very special in these amateur audio documents. While you could be overly critical of them for failing to live up to modern sonic standards, the truth is that not only is the audio acceptable as it is, but as a moment captured forever on tape that not only manages to document the entire evening (opening act included) but does so with few blemishes. It's decent quality too, although does not offer extremely dynamic low end or crisp high end, it's a recording that stays mainly in the middle with better definition on guitars which is fine. Audience 8.8 - This recording was made with obviously good gear, the sound on occasion will lead you to believe it is a pro-job but it really isn’t. What may give it away is the slightly buried guitars, and I mean slightly. The vocals are soaring and direct at the same time – just lovely. Good band, good recording, the magical 1970’s.

  • Audience 8.7 - This is an ass-kicker of a show, really huge sound and larger performance…completely over the top.  The hall effect is present but taper is close enough to the mains to mitigate much of that.  There is an underlying “noisiness” in the tape which gets lost on the shuffle anyway once the band is cooking…and man do they cook! • Audience 8.2/8.6  - The recording starts out borderline, probably due to taper position…but hang in there because midway through the 4th song it improves and becomes a more interesting document because of it, First of all, it’s literally Bob Seger in the peak of his powers with a handful of chart toppers to display proudly. Normally that would not move me, but Bob Seger is old school, he delivers the goods even if his songs are considered “mainstream”, I mean, its good rock and roll no matter what. I love this document for many reasons. • Soundboard 9.5 - A professional recording that has a real 1974 mix – sound engineers might understand what I am saying. Naw, I mean, it’s super clean and tight but it also has a certain kind of “dated” sound, and it really feels like a small venue to me…but these are PLUS marks!  It’s for those reasons I love it. • Soundboard 9.5 - Somewhat controversial, this tour declared to the world that Bob Dylan would not be owned by a corporation, a label, any entity of this earth…so yeah, when you have something to prove you come out swinging. This stuff is actually some of his best stuff, even if there’s that unmistakable gospel and soul influence, it’s still very much Bob Dylan music. Excellent sound, but if I had to be hyper critical of anything it would be my own personal desire for louder lead guitars.

  • Various Sources 8.5/10 - So this is, as the title suggests, a collection of recordings made during this tour but the kicker is that the songs are all ones that were one-off’s (with a couple of exceptions). I found that even the worst track (the final track in the set) was not as bad as they made it seem in the liner notes. Still, when compared to some of the truly outstanding ones in the set, yes maybe it really paled in comparison but there’s only two “marginal” tracks here and they aren’t totally abhorrent. • Pro Audience 9.3 - What is a pro audience recording exactly?  This right here. In other words it was set up from the start to be done to the highest standards. These concerts were highly promoted and a lot of media exists including paper goods, photographs, and yes, recordings. This also includes the pre-show gospel songs (disc 3). Personally, I rather enjoy Bob’s “religious” period as I find the songs and performances on a very high level and his singing is the best of his career (imho).
