Soundboard 9.3 - This is, for me, a real revelation. I never knew anything of this band outside of their lone smash hit “My Sharona”, which incidentally happens to hearken me back to a very specific time and place of my youth when this song blasted from every radio every 10 minutes. Listening to this show, I am stunned at how excellent the band is, and how good ALL of the songs are. How they remained pigeonholed and forgotten as another 1 hit wonder it just amazes me because they should have been more than that. Audience 8.3 - Don’t let the rating fool you, this is an exciting tape! What lowers the rating is just a non-biased appraisal of the sonic limitations of the tape which is mainly the upper end distortion due to volume. It’s a small club and a loud band, and probably a consumer grade cassette recorder…but, it’s actually not that bad and delivers a real exciting vibe. I can tell you this for sure – you will be sucked into this recording and will completely get it, it’s a charming document of a long forgotten time and place. Pro FM Broadcast 9.2 - Both sets are great, both in performance and sound quality. Really great musicianship! I also found myself really enjoying the songs, since I was only very familiar with their evergreen hit “Green Grass and High Tides”. I saw these guys in 1980 and they were great but I was so young I just can’t remember the songs. Soundboard 9.3 - There are quite a few board tapes from this period, so which ones do you get? After listening to this one, I really think it’s one of the ones to get. Great sound, but a really strong performance (when did they not?) too.

Audience 8.6 - A very early tape featuring the bands original guitarist. For those who have not heard anything like this before, well, it does not sound like the Police as we know them, it’s still good, but different. To my ears, the guitarist does not have the polish we have come to expect from this band, but he’s got quite a lot of spit! -

LA 1977 Soundboard 9.4 - THIS is what PUNK should sound like live…loud, brash, and totally in your face – that is exactly what this board tape delivers and I LOVE IT! Get it and you’ll see why. CBGB’s 1977 Audience 9.2 - A pretty clean recording, which is surprising to me as this is a punk band in a small club at full volume (presumably). So, either taper is affiliated with the club and set up somewhere with some good equipment or it’s a fan who just knew what he was doing and nailed it. I am going with the former. Audience 8.4 - A loud and raucous tape (and show) that is a rollicking good time despite some minor hiss and lack of precise clarity. It’s not bad though, I mean, it’s a true capture and delivers the vibe and excitement of the evening. Soundboard 8.8 - Not your typical board tape here, in fact I hesitate to even call it one because to me it sounds like a stage recording. Either way, it is decent but not great. What is great, however, is this period of the band and this performance is indicative of that peak they attained. Marvelous playing throughout – and like I said the sound quality is decent and enjoyable but I expected more from a professional recording.

This is a local product (Houston) and dates from 1998 (with one track from 1995) and perfectly encapsulates the odd effect of the what your perception is of music after the passage of enough time. For instance, I remember this band from the time and considered them just another local "inner loop" grunge band...but hearing this CD they do not categorize so easily there. I find this to be an odd mixture of things that all sort of make me uncomfortable in a creepy way. Some people like that sort of thing though. Anyway, musically it's got some interesting stuff going on and might be worth checking out at this attractive price. CD is SEALED. -

Pro 9.7 - This is a professional recording and I am not sure if it is a board tape but an open mic seems more logical after hearing. It’s great, and the band is a happy, jangly, fun, rollicking, well-oiled machine producing songs that make you want to dance…and then slit your wrists. There’s no way this is from the audience as the drums are in stereo, obviously professionally mixed and panned in a stereo sound field. Pro 9.6 -An obviously professionally recorded show, this will certainly provide the listener with a lot to love although I still like more atmosphere on a live recording than what is contained herein. Soundboard 8.8 - A dated sounding board tape, yes it is good but I can see how there are limitations with board tapes just as there are with audience tapes. If I was a fan I would still love this show, I mean, it’s clear and clean and it’s finely performed so there’s no real downside here. Audience 8.2 - Well, it isn’t a recording that will win any grammies but damn if it isn’t RAW just like the band and their music. This recording actually suits this band – it’s a little rough, but it’s brutal and in your face. The vocals fight for bandwidth against angry and loud guitars, driving bass, and furious non-stop drums. It’s actually kind of a fun listen despite its limitations. Oh, and some good news – it is not a muddy mess at all, it’s just a loud band in a small club sounding for all the world like the debut of punk rock. Audience 7.4 to 7.7 - A tape that varies in consistency but man oh man, this is incredible! I don’t care about the limitations of the tape, I can hear everything, at times it gets quite good and clear, there is some phasing at times, sometimes the taper is walking around too but it doesn’t even matter. This is amazing! -
