• Audience 8.7 - This is definitely the best sounding version of this show. Not bad either – typical of the time period but tapers managed to capture the entire show in pretty good quality.  You can easily forgive some of the minor flaws because that is what they are…minor. A keeper!

  • Norfolk 1972 Audience 8.6 - A rough and tumble tape that surprisingly delivers the sounds you need to be able to hear the band play. The most important thing is this: Mick Taylor is the clearest! You wouldn’t expect that in a million years I know but here it is.

Indianapolis 1972 Audience 8.3 - Low end of the totem pole recording that is represented here because it is perhaps the best source for it. Is there anything salvageable at all?  Yes. It’s distant and not distinct but for completists they will be happy to have the good source and complete their 1972 tour collections.

  • Audience 9.5 - A lot of audience periphery (shouting and bustling) but nonetheless it’s a crystal clean and very dynamic recording. The energy is palpable and comes right out pretty much all the way through as the audience is very responsive and Prince most definitely fed off it. Guitar tone is perfection – vocals very nicely placed in the mix as is everything really. Great, great stuff!

Audience 9.3 - The ’92 Aftershow is equally excellent with just slight differences in tone and distance to come second place to the Bataclan show.

Pro 9.3 – The radio broadcasts here are great and as you would expect, since they are professionally recorded, but honestly I still prefer the Bataclan audience tape which says an awful lot about what a good job taper did on that.

Audience 8.8 - The final disc contains London ’99 audience tape which is the weakest of this set but still decent enough to enjoy. Sounds somewhat distant (not in the stadium sense but small venue distant).

  • Denver 1983 Soundboard 9.3 - Typical of the sharp and detailed board tapes from this tour.

Detroit 1983 Video source 8.6 - Possibly grabbed off a VHS or some other video source. I cannot confirm this 100% but my ears tell me that is the case here. It is a professional recording with a lot of issues concerning compression and noise – I say it is pro because of the location this is being recorded from which seems definite it is not from the audience.

  • Audience 8.8 - This recording features tons of atmosphere and sometimes struggles over a loud audience. It is, however, very clear, with the majority of the sound mix favoring drums and bass but most prominently, Geddy’s vocals – which is fine – but Alex needs to be LOUDER man!  He’s there, he’s just not up as front here as I would prefer. In my quest to obtain every 2015 recording, I do not decide a preference for which ones I offer as most of them are very good to excellent and this here is no exception. • Audience 8.8 - This is the sound of the 80’s, it wasn’t exactly what you remembered!  I completely missed these guys. I instantly assumed any 80’s band was shite…I was so stuck in my own world of Pink Floyd, Steppenwolf, Hendrix, Van Halen, Sabbath, Zeppelin….but I should have been more open minded. These guys were cool AF!  Good quality, very realistic capture. Bauhaus Architectual Association Carnival Bedford Square, London, UK 22 May 1981 01. Bela Lugosi's Dead (9:06) 02. • Soundboard 8.8 - A dated sounding board tape, yes it is good but I can see how there are limitations with board tapes just as there are with audience tapes. If I was a fan I would still love this show, I mean, it’s clear and clean and it’s finely performed so there’s no real downside here. • Audience 9.4 - If the house itself sounds great, and your taping with high quality equipment (most likely a small digital unit with a good, dynamic mic and level control), then your result will be something like this. A lot of detail comes through, as does, from time to time, a rowdy audience – that adds to the atmosphere and thankfully never wrecks the audio recording. • Audience 9.3 - A very good tape, with less of the perfect instrumental separation but more of the live power that can be delivered through good house P.A.’s, and as long as taper is not a complete moron and/or using radio shack circa 1985 gear, chances are you’ll end up with a nice recording…as this one is.
