• NY 1978 SDBRD 9.3 - Really nice sounding, warm, well mixed. A couple of songs fade in, and a couple fade out, so that is unusual in my opinion for a board tape but it’s most of the songs, it isn’t drastic…and all the songs are instrumental anyway. A great one for the collector! Nuremberg 1980 SDBRD 9.5 - Another really good tape and excellent show, with minor complaint being a couple of fade ins and a couple of fade outs which only really may have an effect on those people who are intimately familiar with the band’s material. • New Haven 1975 Audience 9.0 - Nice one here, a lovely guitar tone that rings out clear and true, so close you can put yourself in tapers seats! Only heard one small drop out, there’s another somewhere else but I don’t recall. Only lasted a few seconds. Either way, this is truly an electrifying tape and I have to say I think it can be considered a must have. Tulsa 1975 Audience 8.6 -A recently re-mastered version has appeared, and thankfully so because this tape suffered serious hiss and muddiness before. Now, there’s some hiss remaining but not near as much, and layer after layer of muck has been removed revealing a fine tape, and a blistering performance. In excellent, mind-bending sonic POWER – the kick drum literally will kick your skull in – the crowd extending their pleasure with every note.  For those only familiar with their two radio staples, you will most certainly want to re-examine this band’s output after hearing this. I know I did! Deep Purple Radio City Music Hall 1976 Audience 9.1 - This is a long awaited tape for many people who craved to hear the late Tommy Bolin with the band in at least above average quality. This is way above average! Now, it is not perfect, I would have liked more guitar in the house mix, but still you can’t deny the power and excitement of this recording. • Black Sabbath Los Angeles 1980 Audience 8.9 - This is a much welcomed recording of perhaps the best post Ozzy era of Black Sabbath. 1980 was an interesting year, Ozzy making classic “solo” albums with his new band and Sabbath beginning a new era with a new singer in Ronnie James Dio and neither the worse for it.  This is a great show, in great quality. Black Sabbath Vienna 1980 Audience 8.3 -Unfortunately this recording suffers from many ailments, mainly in the range and dynamics, but what it does offer is a previously uncirculated (and complete) show from Sabbath in Europe during the very crucial 1980 tour with Dio as new front man. This is what I get from this show- Dio is very committed to bringing the audience in to the spectacle…the performance is killer in every respect. The sound quality is not trash, but I want Dio more clear than this because he is really on his game this night. I think this tape belongs in this set because it doesn’t have to be the centerpiece of the set, it offers the collector a new tape of a complete show from 1980 and that is enough for me. • Mahavishnu Orchestra Central Park 1972 Audience 8.6 - A somewhat percussive recording that has loads of middle band punch making for a sound that contains fierce kinetic energy. The performance is astounding, the recording adds an element of immediacy, with the drums especially sounding like they are placed right next to you. Very cool. Mahavishnu Orchestra Munchen 1972 Professional TV audio 9.3 - This is a nice one, and it is not suffering from TV compression although the “atmosphere” here is somewhat muted as if it was in a studio setting and not live in front of an audience. • Studio Quality 9.6 - Make no mistake, as I once did, that just because this was the Stones entering the era of “disco” and experimentation, it is very much a bona fide Rolling Stones album and these sessions prove that they still jammed old school on every song. It’s an eye opener for me, when I hear the musicianship across a lot of songs I dismissed early on or never properly examined, I have new appreciation for the Emotional Rescue album and that period of the band. • Audience 8.8/9.3 - So, you know how huge the O2 Arena is, right? Well it sounds like a huge arena, but aside from the large mega stadium ambience, this is not that bad at all. It’s what you call “immersive” because you really can imagine yourself there. The audio quality itself is very good, as far as the tonality and levels, etc. The “live mix” is typical of an event like this, tons of atmosphere, party vibe (with about 15,000 of your closest friends), and Prince as always delivering the goods. The after show audio is extremely well done, sounding quite intimate and very warm. • Radio/TV Broadcasts 9.4 - I have learned to trust most Prince titles now, generally speaking there is great care taken to preserve the fidelity, to obtain master sources, and to package appropriately. That seems only fitting when dealing with an artists’ of Prince’s caliber…and I mean that most sincere. The list of contents for this title is extremely long and extensive and I did not write it up. I do have an image that I am willing to email if you need to see the track listing. It does show the contents in detail. My apologies, but trust me this is a great title and all the info is on the artwork.

This one is just such a tape, because for one thing not only is the quality very good, but it’s super nice on the ears. What I mean is, the timbre of the recording is very comfortable, so it’s easy to listen to the entire show there is no fatigue on the ears at all. The icing on the cake is having both opening acts in the same kind of quality, in complete form. So, what more could you ask for? • Audience 8.8 - This may not be a tape with good song separation or detail but it occupies a sonic range that is very comfortable on the ears. Usually when attending a very loud, bombastic heavy rock or metal concert you aren’t going to distinguish much anyway, you will basically hear a roaring sound…but this tape delivers a little more than just that. This is a good document and taper used good gear, sat in a good spot, and recorded everything. I would call this recording completely immersive, with a warm, inviting sound. • Chicago 1979 Soundboard 8.8 - A little bit on the “ragged” side mix-wise, with strong kick drums and guitar, vocals next. Sound quality is decent due to it being a soundboard but some instruments are placed well behind such as keyboards. It is a high energy sound, a real sonic blast to be sure. Denver 1979 Soundboard 9.3 - A refreshing and bright board tape, mixed well and everything is heard pretty clearly. Keyboards still mixed lower down the chain of command but now I think I understand this idea – while the band is playing it’s simply keyboard accompaniment, and when it’s keyboards time, he’s brought up louder. Works for me. Long Island 1979 Audience 8.7 - A pretty decent tape for this hall, the bass sounds very nice, full and round, guitars are a little back, vocals are present and up front more or less. So, all in all unless you have to have Ritchie blasting full on into your eardrums, which he is during his solo bits, this one will sit nicely in the collection and I even think it will find a repeated listen or two. • Soundboard 9.2 & Audience 9.7 - Right away you are going to question this rating. Most of you will be familiar with the ’69 set as it is well traveled and professionally recorded and as such has a purity about it. Now, I like it, I like the purity and clarity and all of that, but just listen to the raw audience tape from 1972 and then tell me it doesn’t deserve the rating I give it. If you don’t hear the unbridled intensity, the electricity zapping the entire stadium and coming through your speakers directly into your head at full throttle, than just stop collecting right now and take up another hobby, maybe crochet or something. The music is all-encompassing, it’s space rock with emphasis on rock, and It is quite interesting. • Soundboard 9.2 - This is the complete recording featuring both sets (previously available as an edited down version) and is notable for the amazing version of Dark Star, although the gig is expertly performed, that track really stands out. The sound is clean (almost too clean) and does have a “rounded” sound, there’s no jangly edges here so crank it up for a better experience. • Cleveland 1981 is an FM Broadcast 9.2 which I had not heard before believe it or not, so, I was suitably impressed. Anyone would be appreciative! The second disc (and most of the 3rd) is Montreal 81 and is an FM Broadcast 8.9 due to a more subdued signal that does not take away any frequency range but rather slightly compresses the sound just a bit. Now I want the listener to realize that this is a subjective opinion, technically speaking the audio here is excellent so it’s a matter of personal taste in this case. The second half of disc 3 is all studio quality. • Audience 9.3 - As good as it could be for a large stadium concert. Despite the soundmen fighting mic feedback issues during the first few songs, it certainly gets dialed in and becomes quite nice with the feeling of this being an event, the atmosphere, the way the sound sort of envelopes your ears and you get a sense of size and space. Really sweet!

  • Soundboard 9.7 - Why this tape isn’t more celebrated I’ll never understand. It’s just mind blowing! The performance is off the charts great, and the sound is very bold and nicely mixed. Lots of good 73 board tapes out there but how many are featuring all four Zeppers on top of their games on every song? Led Zeppelin Sports Arena San Diego, CA. • Audience 9.8 - It’s hard to find anything that is quite as marvelous as this…seriously. You can take all your pristine board tapes and none of them come close to capturing the essence of Led Zeppelin on stage in front of an audience. This is simply a MUST HAVE no matter how many shows you have in the collection (certainly you already have this anyway) but get this one again because it’s been recently transferred from the original cassette masters and given the treatment. This could easily come out officially. BRILLIANT!!! • Audience 8.6 - A new tape to circulation and a most welcomed one. It’s certainly quite different and for Zep collectors will be analyzed incessantly and be shown as a “keeper” for many reasons. Sound quality is a little hissy but surprisingly clear and without mud. Dynamically it’s not going to shatter any records but let me tell you for what this is, it offers a fascinating window into a hard-working touring band making yet another tour stop in some out of the way, random Scandinavian town nobody has ever heard of. • Audience 9.2 - I love how this sounds! Geddy is so clear, the sound is very comfortable to my ears and I just love how the drums and bass are distinct – especially the bass because my gosh Geddy is such a badass and so on point here. This is kind of a historic gig in as way most would not even notice. 30 years prior to this date was the last time Rush played the Allentown Fair, and they played a few songs not yet released…welp, fast forward 30 years and they do the same thing here! How cool is that? One other personal detail that struck me was how the performance took me back to around 1979, I felt the performance and atmosphere, along with how the tape itself was recorded, all for some reason made me, at times, think this sounded like the late 70's. • Audience 8.7 - A rattling, rambunctious recording that you will LOVE because it’s the sonic equivalent of the Stones’ personalities. Sure, yeah, this recording is imperfect but it does NOT suffer from muddiness, rather the opposite, it’s very “sharp” and sometimes cymbal crashes irritate (not always), and yet I listened all the way through and had a great time with this show. The quality is not really an issue. This is a just a classic Stones gig and the fact we have the opening acts, man, that is amazing!
