  • Audience 8.8/Audience 8.7  - Both recordings here (from the same taper) occurred on two different gigs at the same venue in the same year.  Both are consistent, and good. The songs do duplicate but Rory has new material to offer at the second gig later in the year. Great set here! • Audience 8.6/Pro 9.1 - This recording was not done on great equipment but it’s not a load of crap. The high frequency range is well represented but at times when the horns hit higher notes it gets a little screechy. The atmosphere is a touch bouncy and live, mid and low frequencies are present but not powerful. Overall it’s not bad, but it isn’t going to set the world on fire. The BBC material is a vast improvement from the ’77 stuff as it is a pro recording and broadcast. • Audience 9.4 - If you can’t get into this rollicking, electric southern fried punk and roll then you aren’t alive. This kicks total ass!  Great sound quality and great atmosphere combined with a band that was unfairly ignored by the media at a time when new music and new attitudes were flourishing. I can listen to this all day…Fantastic! • Soundboard 9.3 - A good solid board but more importantly it’s a stand out show. I would say, and I’ve listened to quite a few, this is one of the best. Eric Clapton "Legend Comes Alive" The Budokan Theatre Tokyo, Japan November 2, 1974 Disc 1 1 - Smile 2 - Let It Grow 3 - Can't Find My Way Home 4 - Better Make It Through Today 5 - I Shot The Sheriff 6 - Key To The Highway Disc 2 1 - Willie And The Hand Jive - Get Ready 2 - Badge 3 - Presence Of The Lord 4 - Singin' The Blues Band Lineup: Eric Clapton    Guitar, Vocals Jamie Oldaker    Drums Dick Sims    Keyboards Carl Radle    Bass George Terry    Guitar Yvonne Elliman    Backing Vocals Marcy Levy    Backing Vocals
  • Audience 8.7 - It’s not necessarily a keeper but it is still a very good sounding tape that has maybe a touch more “atmosphere” than your used to. I could hear everything fine, although it isn’t the best in terms of instrument separation – it’s part and parcel sometimes when listening to audience recordings. I still can recommend this one, because it’s good enough that you won’t abandon it and it will sit nicely in your collection. • Audience 9.4 - Superb capture! There’s nothing I would change about this tape, it’s got a wonderful electric vibe and strong depth that leaves you wanting more. • Audience 9.6 - Superb clarity and separation of instruments while retaining a cool, honest live vibe which is what recording from an audience can produce so long as the gear being used is high quality and taper knows how to use it. Here, they do. Prince Paisley Park 3-28/29-2014 Disc 1 1. Why Come 2. Day In The Sun 3. My Family 4. North carolina 5. Share It With You 6. On The Way Up (inc. Love Machine) 7. Catch Me If U Can 8. • Audience 9.1 - Atmospheric, where even if it may be recorded from somewhere in the middle, the immersive experience has been well captured. Vocals sound lush and full, and percussion is crisp and well defined with a nice, rounded bottom end holding it all down. This is a decent recording that allows the listener to imagine where they are sitting and how the event sounded, the actual P.A. sound. • Audience 8.8  - The Zurich aftershow is decent enough for what had to be a packed club, so yeah it’s somewhat claustrophobic as you feel like you are squeezed between people and you are trying to bootleg the damn show ha ha!  It’s good, it’s not great. • Audience 9.3 - A very good tape, with less of the perfect instrumental separation but more of the live power that can be delivered through good house P.A.’s, and as long as taper is not a complete moron and/or using radio shack circa 1985 gear, chances are you’ll end up with a nice recording…as this one is. • Audience 9.4 - If the house itself sounds great, and your taping with high quality equipment (most likely a small digital unit with a good, dynamic mic and level control), then your result will be something like this. A lot of detail comes through, as does, from time to time, a rowdy audience – that adds to the atmosphere and thankfully never wrecks the audio recording. • Soundboard 9.5 - Spectacular sound, ferocious performance! This is, without a doubt, one absolute must-have for anyone with even a remote interest in Judas Priest…but I’ll take it even further and say ANYONE who loves hard rock should get this one. • Pro Studio 9.8 - Glorious sound quality, and the intimate setting of the Record Plant radio broadcasts back in the day is just perfect here because we all know what happened to this guy’s career after Margaritaville took off…would have been hard to reproduce such intimate settings after that. • Audience 8.8 - A really good tape with a loud and phat bottom end that is probably not that unlike what the actual sound would have been at the show. If the vocals were a little bit louder I would have mistaken this for a radio broadcast. • Grand Funk Railroad Hawaii 1971 - Soundboard 9.1 A scarcity of prime era  recordings mandate that anyone remotely interested in this band pursue any and all recordings that are A. Soundboard and/or B. decent audience for the simple reason that this band kicked ass. This is a true rarity – a soundboard and, yes, it kicks major ass. Grand Funk Railroad Boston 1971 Audience 8.7 - A very good tape surfaces and you can actually hear everything pretty clearly. This band played very loud (as did any self-respecting heavy rock band of the early 70’s) and consequently unless you smuggled in superior quality machinery you weren’t likely to be able to capture this sound with any clarity. This taper had better than average gear it seems, and even though it’s still somewhat distant from the stage, it is a tape that allows the listener to experience an entire show without struggling too hard to make out what is going on. • Soundboard 9.3  - A very clean and mellow sounding board tape, and it suits the music well because everything is pinpoint accurate, which you really want as the playing is so well executed you need to hear it all as well as possible.   Grateful Dead May 19, 1974 Portland Coliseum Portland, OR Disc 1 Set 1 101 - Mississippi Half-Step Uptown Toodeloo 102 - Mexicali Blues 103 - Big Railroad Blues 104 - Black Throated Wind 105 - Scarlet Begonias 106 - Beat It On Down The Line 107 - Tennessee Jed 108 - Me And Bobby McGee 109 - Sugaree 110 - Jack Straw 111 - It Must Have Been The Roses 112 - El Paso Disc 2 Set 1 cont'd 113 - Loose Lucy 114 - Money Money 115 - China Cat Sunflower 116 - I Know You Rider Set 2 117 - Tuning 118 - Promised Land 119 - Bertha 120 - Greatest Story Ever Told 121 - Ship Of Fools 122 - Weather Report Suite Disc 3 Set 2 cont'd 207 - Wharf Rat 208 - Big River 209 - Peggy-O 210 - Tico Tico 211 - Truckin' 212 - Mind Left Body Jam 213 - Not Fade Away 214 - Goin' Down The Road Feeling Bad 215 - One More Saturday Night 216 - U.S. Blues 217 - Johnny B. • Audience 9.5 - A sparkling, vivid recollection of a moment in time when an evening of progressive rock music was being performed by masters of the craft, and it was sublime. A recording that has wonderful atmosphere, solid and deep, showcasing both guitar and bass in a manner so that each are distinct yet blended perfectly. • Soundboard 9.1 - I rate this as a soundboard because even though I am not 100% sure, the giveaway is the drums.
