• Audience 7.8 - Excellent! Good dynamics and tons of atmosphere.
  • Soundboard 9.3 - Excellent low gen source for this exciting early board tape.
  • Audience 8.8 - Really crisp and vibrant
  • Soundboard 9.5 - Spectacular sound, ferocious performance! This is, without a doubt, one absolute must-have for anyone with even a remote interest in Judas Priest…but I’ll take it even further and say ANYONE who loves hard rock should get this one. • Soundboard 9.0 - hot show!  A band that always put on a good, solid, tight and professional show. Total pro's and that's why we still love them.
  • Audience 9.2 - I rated this highly because even though the levels are hot there is no distortion and it’s a decent live mix with some atmosphere present too (you can distinguish the delay on the guitar and echo on vocals over all the intense action of the band which is a pleasant thing). It’s also a great gig!
  • Brand New - Great live recording of a Texas show in 1982. Judas Priest at their peak! A must have!
  • Audience 8.3 -  Do not let the “average” sound rating prevent you from selecting this AMAZING rarity. I could write paragraphs on why this is a must have for any self-respecting Priest fan, but suffice it to say that this is why I even collect live music. The details of the recording are but one small part of the equation, but I will note that the tape suffers from two main problems – it’s a little muffled and it’s a little hissy.  There is also an unfortunate cut where the solo begins in Victim of Changes (could it not have happened on any other song?), I think this is the tape flip. The quality worsens a bit after that, but there’s also good news to report: The tape has been remastered, revealing much more music that was probably buried under muck and noise for decades. What you end up with is a very intense show, and an audience absolutely being blown to smithereens. I can imagine after having to deal with mediocre top 40 and disco music, new wave, etc. having a band like Judas Priest I mean, that had to be like a sledgehammer to the skull because let’s face it, for 1979 these guys were way heavy, and not in a punkish Motorhead heavy but a very competent, sinister kind of heavy. That does come through on this tape.  Without a remastering it would have been tough to listen to it, but it’s actually not hurtful on the ears, the actual frequency range is comfortable, and there are times where it is even very decent. Overall it is simply one of those you really have to just get and appreciate for what it is because it quite simply is DEVASTATING.
  • Audience 8.8 - Good punchy recording that gives you a front row seat to the action.
  • Audience 8.7 - Sometimes a recording that may not be rated in the 9's might be passed over out of hand by picky collectors. That would be a huge mistake in this case. These are both unbelievably cool in a variety of ways - and the sound quality is not even an issue. The audio is fine for a super loud British metal band that comes to Texas and plays smallish venues - you can hear everything clearly. I would say that you might not get the wide spectrum, the sound is going to be focused on the middle range of instruments which gives you good guitar/vocal action at the expense of maybe the kick drum, and definition of bass, so who cares? It's not a deal-breaker at all because once you start listening you soon realize how kick ass these shows are. This is the stuff man!  NOTE:  Both of these shows have different dates than the single CD releases found on this site. You won't be duplicating anything, they are different dates for both the San Antonio and Kileen gigs. • Disc 1 Soundboard 9.8 Disc 2 Audience 8.7 Disc 3 Audience 87/Soundboard 9.4 Disc 4 Soundboard 9.4 This set comprises four discs full of superbly performed music by some very skilled musicians.  The only audience recording on this set actually is not that bad, but compared to immaculate soundboard tapes, your ears will need to adjust but you will notice that it is a very good capture with some occasional irregularities with the sound mix where the music gets “further” away (not literally, just something to do with the recording), but overall I think it is ok and worthwhile to enjoy.
