• Audience 8.3 - Limitations with the microphone is probably what prevents this recording from blossoming as it sometimes seems like it wants to do. You can hear it, for instance, during some of the passages, but I think the overloading of the bass crowds out the guitar a bit too much (although you can hear guitar, just not in a clear and detailed manner). Drums and keyboards dominate with a very insistent, pulsing bass undercurrent throughout. Does that count this out?  Not at all, due to the disparity of live BJH recordings, I think this one is worth exploring. The compositions and playing make up for the limitations on the tape. • Audience  8.8 - Sparkling! There’s a really wonderful, intimate atmosphere permeating this recording, and I don’t mean “hall reverb” either. The warmth of the recording captures the warmth of the artist/audience experience. There’s a bit of chatter present but it’s all part of the deal. Get this one!
  • Audience  9.0 - Both Shows are 9.0 ... Simply gorgeous, lush, well balanced recordings made by people who obviously knew what they were doing. The only knock is maybe a little squishing in the middle during peak volume moments. I wish I could get my hands on any other tapes these guys made! Get this you won’t regret it.
  • PRO Radio Broadcast  9.4 - Excellent tight, warm, sweet spot all the way through here! To sound engineers – this is how you record and mix a bass guitar and drums.
  • All Soundboard 9.3 - This entirely depends on how much you want to hear blazing, inventive lead guitar and don’t mind if the bass sounds more like a rhythm guitar, That is what the bass sounds like to my ears, it’s there, but it’s not “low end” it’s more like a heavy rhythm guitar. It works for this style of rock though – and it’s all good stuff, if maybe a tad generic with the singing. • FM Broadcast 9.2 - A great recording that captures the atmosphere and the thrilling musicianship brightly, if maybe a touch too boldly on the meters…no worries, there’s nothing to interfere with your listening pleasure. The band…did not know much about them but they sure have the chops. I get a little bit of a sort of Whitesnake influence, but not any of the trademark cheesiness. Jake E. Lee is very acrobatic without unnecessary shredding, I would not call his playing shred at all in fact. It’s actually quite tasteful and great use of effects…thrilling at times, and very few dive bombs and when he does it’s in and out, they don’t overstay their welcome. I could say that for the songs too, they all have good balance and set up all the solos nicely. They even cover Purple Haze…umm…maybe they should have left that one alone. But everything else is tops. • Soundboard 9.1 - The source used for this CD is a DAT tape made from a direct transfer of Joey Molland’s tapes of the show. Whether that means it is the same as what else is out there, I do not know, but it is possible that the radio station did their own recording for broadcast and other releases use the FM broadcast. This is not that!  The sound quality is uneven at times while the levels are adjusted but after that it’s smooth sailing.
  • Audience  6.4 - Very lo-fi and not super clear but it’s a very cool early show.
  • Studio Quality 9.5 - This 2CD set compiles some of the best uncirculating or hard to find Badfinger demos and studio outtakes. Many other worthy tracks were excluded since they already appear in excellent quality on other collections. (ie. Apple Demos 1970-1972 and Complete Ass). Highlights include a 'new' version of Coppertoone Blues, the speed corrected demo of Without You (I Can't Live), the first appearence on CD of an alternate 'piano version' of Do You Mind and the rough mixes of several tracks from their classic Apple-era. In addition the original mix of the 1974 'Head First' album taken from cassette obtained directly from Mike Gibbins in the late 90's. These 1974 mixes are different from the 2000 Snapper CD mixes and are a major upgrade from other circulating copies.

  • Audience  8.4 - This is not the nice and clean Badfinger of FM radio, this is a jamming rock and roll band. Great raw live sound!
  • Audience  7.9 - Foot- stomping and LOUD recording! Bristles with energy, the tape can barely contain it but it does. Fun show!
  • Stoke 1974 Audience 8.4 - A loud tape with a touch of stadium boom, but not anything that approaches irritation. It sounds like it’s in stereo, I hear guitar in one channel and bass in the other which is kinda cool. The instruments are all clearly discernible here making for a tape that sits on the upper side of very good. Tulsa 1975 Audience 8.7 - A tape that has a good, snappy live sound and a pretty good mix for the ears.  The music is delivered to you through a tight mid-range and a snare drum that hovers over everything making it instantly delightful. I rather do like this one! Orange, France 1975 Audience 8.8 - A fine tape, one that really has good separation of instruments, and very decent dynamics. When the guitar solos, the sound seems to glide above you, so that kind of effect and atmosphere puts this show into a category I call “Repeat Listening” because you will go to it again. Amsterdam 1976 Audience 8.8 - Brassy, but enough mid and bottom to smooth that out nicely. A touch of cymbal sizzle but again there’s enough of all other frequencies here that not any one stands out in an annoying fashion. This is a well-balanced tape with some real life in it. • Audience  9.2 - KANSAS opened up for BAD COMPANY on this exciting night in 1976. We have that show listed as well.
  • Soundboard  9.4 - Brilliant!
  • Audience  7.6 - I wish this sounded better because it’s one of the few recordings capturing that rare moment when they are joined by the Zeppers. So, yeah, a little rough with the loudness and all, but important in a historical sense.
  • CD 1 - Brisbane - Audience  7.8  (a little bit flat maybe but it is clear enough you hear the whole band, still enjoyable nonetheless) CD 2 - Lancaster - Audience  8.6  (a great recording here)
  • Audience  8.5 - Nothing much to complain about here. A good and very “live” sounding tape. Gives you the atmosphere which, if done properly, adds much to the tape.
  • Soundboard  9.5 - Mixed for official release, but sadly it was withdrawn from the market and is now hopelessly out of print.
  • Recorded live at Max's Kansas City in NYC 1979. This is an import CD. Jewel Case new never played.

CD 3 - Audience  7.2  (a big step up from previous disc, levels a little low but not so much, kind of thin, gets crowded when the band is loud.) • Soundboard 8.6 - This sounds VERY 80’s, I mean, it sounds pretty dated…but good quality. I guess they were not too bad, kind of simplistic maybe in a Twisted Sister kind of way, but the guitarist pulls out some tasty solos. • Dallas, TX. based hard rock/jazz fusion group heavily influenced by Jean Luc Ponty and Mahavishnu Orchestra. Enjoyed a brief but fruitful life span between the years 1975 and 1977, and having at least two significant line-up changes. Bassist Roy Vogt would later go on to find much success touring with legendary singer Englebert Humperdinck and teaching and recording many compositions in Nashville, most notably with guitarist extraordinaire Stan Lassiter.
  • Audience  7.8 - Both shows roughly the same with enough differences to say one has qualities the other doesn’t have and vice versa. So whereas in one show you might get more definition on guitar, the other will have more vocal presence and a slightly better rhythm section. Take your pick, two vintage Atomic Rooster gigs hardly a losing proposition.
  • Audience  8.3-8.7 - What starts out sounding kind of boomy, slowly starts to turn into a very good and powerful recording as if the taper started on one side (bass) and moved to the middle…either that or the sound man finally got it right. Either way this will surely please!
