  • Soundboard 9.9 - This nearly brought me to tears. I always knew this band could reach the highest level of quality, in performance, in tone, in showmanship, and here it is. Yeah, sure, I know what you are thinking: “it’s mid 80’s Aerosmith, it’s the doldrums of rock, it’s a washed up bunch of druggies” but I have to tell you that if this marks a “comeback” then it’s the most amazing comeback I have ever heard. I’ve heard tons of live Aerosmith and I take this show over ALL of them. Just listen to how everyone plays off each other, how well they know each other it's like the magic has returned and they know it. Aerosmith The Orpheum Theater Boston, MA. • Pro Radio Broadcast  9.1 - Legendary WCBN live broadcast when the band were peaking and sounding so good. What happened?
  • Audience  8.1 - Small club sound, a little bit muffled but guitars, vocals and harmonica and even piano come through fine and all in all I think once your ears adjust you can enjoy this. A wild night of rock and roll for sure!

    AEROSMITH – Backstage Pass 1974-1977 (3CD)

Original price was: $28.49.Current price is: $26.49.
CD 1 - Audience 7.7 - A very rare tape that only recently surfaced. Hard to complain when presented with something as rare, so just be aware that the tape was recorded in the middle of the venue and features a boomy, echoey sound. CD 2 - A very good recording, clear and immersive, you can really get into this one. CD 3 Surprisingly clear, a welcome addition to the not so well documented 1977 period where the band starts to really fray around the edges (and in the middle!) but that is not evident here – this is the band in fine form.
  • Audience  8.5 - Lively sound for the live portion, the demos are “studio” pro.
  • Audience  8.8 - A solid recording all the way through. Jamming!
  • Audience 8.8 - At first my thought was that this was a recording for a broadcast because even though it sounds like an audience recording, that may just mean that the station used room mics to capture the concert. What tipped me off to the fact that this is indeed just a really good audience tape is the clapping near the mic after the songs. AC/DC Palladium, New York, NY August 24th 1977 1. -Live Wire 2. -Shes Got Balls 3. -Problem Child 4. -The Jack 5. -High Voltage 6. -Whole Lotta Rosie 7. -Baby Please Don't Go THE BAND Bon Scott lead vocals Angus Young lead guitar Malcolm Young rhythm guitar backing vocals Cliff Williams bass backing vocals Phil Rudd drums
  • Audience 8.3 - At first, you would have expected this to sound awful, being an awfully loud band playing in a small club with primitive gear…and it’s not exactly perfect but for what it is it is DAMN good!  Guitars up front, vocals a but buried, drums reasonably clear, but you get a real sense of the action and the sound is not bad at all.  Historically, this is absolutely a must for any ACDC fan.
  • Audience 7.8 - A recording that slowly gets a little better after the first song or two but I have to tell you – for historical purposes this recording is the first time Brian Johnson appears on tape with the band (live, not studio). I think he does a fine job filling the spot too, but that’s up to every fan to decide.
  • Soundboard 8.8 - OK, so yeah this board tape is extremely clear but it suffers from the sterility of most board tapes, and when the band is ACDC, you really need that electric atmosphere a rowdy audience provides. I also found this tape kind of missing some “guts”, but, if you want to hear everything, all guitars and drums, vocals (including backing vocals), then you can’t miss with a clean board tape that allows everything to be present. • SDBRD 8.8 - A solid one, albeit there’s some tape hiss present, and vocals are a little muddied in the mix but it’s still a really good and anyone can appreciate.
  • Audience  8.7 - This is a very bright and clear recording from close to the stage. Loads of electrifying atmosphere – you literally are planted right in between the tapers close to the stage and you really sense that.
  • Audience 9.0 - This rating is representing a lot more than strictly audio fidelity, because truth be told it’s more of an 8.7 for sound, but the show, and the crowd, and the atmosphere…simply incredible! It’s also important to note that this show is the last live recording of Bon Scott.
  • SDBRD pre-FM source 9.4  - Legendary for the pristine sound quality but let’s not forget that the late 70’s was ACDC at their best. This is one for the books.
  • Soundboard  9.5 - Ass-kicking greatness!
  • Soundboard 9.6 - From the very first notes, you know this one is going to be one helluva ride, and it delivers!
  • Audience  8.6 - A decent capture here, it sure sounds like a master source was used, there’s no tape noise at all and all the highs are perfectly intact.
  • FM Broadcast  8.8 - Once you get past the first song which has some channel dropouts, it’s all systems go full tilt boogie for reals. This is just flat out awesome!
  • FM Radio 9.4 - Pretty slammin’ stuff here. The band is pretty hot around this time, very confident, with a good set list. Occasional static does make a presence on this tape, but it kind of lurks behind the music rather than over the top of it.
  • Aud 8.5 and PRO RADIO 9.6  - The Brisbane is a raucous, loud, crashing kind of show/recording that gives one a sense of sitting on the side of the stage and watching them. The BBC material is awesome!
  • SDBRD 9.8  - Almost absolutely perfect, like you get both guitars in their own space so you can hear what each player is doing perfectly. This is how I prefer to listen to ACDC!
  • SDBRD 8.9 - I would have rated this higher but I am not thrilled with the way it is mixed – to my ears too dry and thin. It is perfectly clear, very bright and slamming though, but I need more “atmosphere” and this recording is a PURE board feed. I mean, it’s awesome don’t get me wrong.
  • Soundboard 9.7 - I give this a stellar and glowing review and consider it an absolute must have for any self-respecting ACDC….no, wait, any self-respecting rock music fan. Why?  Because, even though the old tape has an occasional drop out (rarely), it is so fucking electrifying, exciting, and pure that you can’t help but bang your head to it…the entire show!  The combination of the superb live mix that maintains 100% live energy, there’s no mixing the life out of this bad boy, and the amazing performance all contribute to must have status. I love how I can hear Malcolm so distinctly, and even the bass notes come through…but the drums, that insistent rat a tat snare just makes this tape a winner bar-none. The bonus concert on disc two is also a board tape, and it has a different feel to it but it is also amazing. Get it man!

  • Audience 8.8/Soundboard 9.3 - Very good audience source for the Philly show, perhaps maybe just somewhat lacking in bottom end and of course it’s denser than the clean channel mix of a board tape or broadcast but for 1984, I don’t know I think it’s pretty good. The Cleveland Agora show is excellent quality. • Audience 8.8 - Tapers used good gear, because even though they sound middle of the venue somewhere, it is a strong capture giving nice depth and clarity. So, loads of headroom and atmosphere, a bit far back, but strong, clear, with depth all in all very nice. For those who do not know, this band is an offshoot of Roxy Music featuring Phil Manzanera and Brian Eno (Simon Phillips on drums).
