• Audience 9.1 - A lovely, intimate recording that belies the size of the venue. Of course, this was a different approach Elton John undertook on this tour. I think it works well, the bombast has been toned down and what you get instead is an examination of his music presented to you by the man…I think you will appreciate these songs in this way. • Seattle 1970 FM Broadcast 9.4 - So good to have clear and vibrant live Doors recordings…there’s just not enough of them out there. Hypnotic, and with Jim at the helm it’s a feast for the imagination as to what shenanigans were happening on stage. Cool as HECK! Detroit 1970 FM Broadcast 9.2 - Nice, clean, concise and this is how I want to hear The Doors. There’s so much subtlety and intrigue and you need to be able to hear everything clearly…and with this tape you do. For the track listing on this one, please review the images as we posted a clear photo of the track sheet.
  • Soundboard 9.2 & Audience 9.7 - Right away you are going to question this rating. Most of you will be familiar with the ’69 set as it is well traveled and professionally recorded and as such has a purity about it. Now, I like it, I like the purity and clarity and all of that, but just listen to the raw audience tape from 1972 and then tell me it doesn’t deserve the rating I give it. If you don’t hear the unbridled intensity, the electricity zapping the entire stadium and coming through your speakers directly into your head at full throttle, than just stop collecting right now and take up another hobby, maybe crochet or something. • Audience 8.5 - We all are aware that this tape is not spectacular quality, it does what it needs to do and that is present a document of a great evening for Led Zeppelin. It’s quite magical in many respects, and really I think the quality is not disappointing considering some re-mastering of the tape has been done and it helps. Still this is worth having for history and for how good the band is playing. • Audience 9.0 - A small club atmosphere puts you up close to the band and the respectful audience. The music is all-encompassing, it’s space rock with emphasis on rock, and It is quite interesting. Quality is clear, it’s not super dynamic but you can really sink into this recording and what is extra cool is the taper stayed for both sets leading me to believe they were connected to the band or their management. Maybe not, but it’s my guess. Cool stuff! Far East Family Band Troubador Los Angeles, CA Early Show 1978-03-24 First Performance in the United States. • Soundboard 9.2 - This is the complete recording featuring both sets (previously available as an edited down version) and is notable for the amazing version of Dark Star, although the gig is expertly performed, that track really stands out. The sound is clean (almost too clean) and does have a “rounded” sound, there’s no jangly edges here so crank it up for a better experience. • Cleveland 1981 is an FM Broadcast 9.2 which I had not heard before believe it or not, so, I was suitably impressed. Anyone would be appreciative! The second disc (and most of the 3rd) is Montreal 81 and is an FM Broadcast 8.9 due to a more subdued signal that does not take away any frequency range but rather slightly compresses the sound just a bit. Now I want the listener to realize that this is a subjective opinion, technically speaking the audio here is excellent so it’s a matter of personal taste in this case. The second half of disc 3 is all studio quality. • Audience 9.3 - As good as it could be for a large stadium concert. Despite the soundmen fighting mic feedback issues during the first few songs, it certainly gets dialed in and becomes quite nice with the feeling of this being an event, the atmosphere, the way the sound sort of envelopes your ears and you get a sense of size and space. Really sweet!

  • Soundboard 9.7 - Why this tape isn’t more celebrated I’ll never understand. It’s just mind blowing! The performance is off the charts great, and the sound is very bold and nicely mixed. • Audience 9.8 - It’s hard to find anything that is quite as marvelous as this…seriously. You can take all your pristine board tapes and none of them come close to capturing the essence of Led Zeppelin on stage in front of an audience. This is simply a MUST HAVE no matter how many shows you have in the collection (certainly you already have this anyway) but get this one again because it’s been recently transferred from the original cassette masters and given the treatment. This could easily come out officially. BRILLIANT!!! • Audience 8.6 - A new tape to circulation and a most welcomed one. It’s certainly quite different and for Zep collectors will be analyzed incessantly and be shown as a “keeper” for many reasons. Sound quality is a little hissy but surprisingly clear and without mud. Dynamically it’s not going to shatter any records but let me tell you for what this is, it offers a fascinating window into a hard-working touring band making yet another tour stop in some out of the way, random Scandinavian town nobody has ever heard of. • Audience 9.2 - I love how this sounds! Geddy is so clear, the sound is very comfortable to my ears and I just love how the drums and bass are distinct – especially the bass because my gosh Geddy is such a badass and so on point here. This is kind of a historic gig in as way most would not even notice. 30 years prior to this date was the last time Rush played the Allentown Fair, and they played a few songs not yet released…welp, fast forward 30 years and they do the same thing here! How cool is that? One other personal detail that struck me was how the performance took me back to around 1979, I felt the performance and atmosphere, along with how the tape itself was recorded, all for some reason made me, at times, think this sounded like the late 70's. • Audience 8.7 - A rattling, rambunctious recording that you will LOVE because it’s the sonic equivalent of the Stones’ personalities. Sure, yeah, this recording is imperfect but it does NOT suffer from muddiness, rather the opposite, it’s very “sharp” and sometimes cymbal crashes irritate (not always), and yet I listened all the way through and had a great time with this show. The quality is not really an issue. This is a just a classic Stones gig and the fact we have the opening acts, man, that is amazing! • Audience 9.7 - Contrary to what you initially would have thought about Prince audience recordings, that the people there to see him aren’t exactly the type you would think would be overly concerned about getting an excellent capture…sure I am profiling here but it’s true - you expect this crowd is mainly there to bump and grind with each other and party like it’s 1999 or something. Now, I have to say after listening to many Prince audience recordings I come away as being impressed for the most part. This tape confirms what I now believe, that Prince bootleggers actually give a shit about the quality of the sound recordings they make. I LOVE the sound and feel of this tape…hands down I put this up against ANY soundboard you want to throw at me. This has ELECTRICITY and you don’t get that out of line recordings. • Audience 8.8 - Here we have two concerts in very good quality that show a band undeniably at the peak, a peak that seemed to stretch out for a VERY long time I might add, but a creative peak that gave audiences a lot to digest musically. The quality of this tape is pretty decent but I give it a knock in the rating (although 8.8 is still high) because I got too much emphasis on an upper mid frequency that didn’t rub me the right way and this is a subjective analysis. The tape allows plenty of information in that you get pretty much everything, it’s clear, and the content is worth the price of admission. I am making a subjective observation but I feel the taper had done an amazing job and it would have gotten a 9.4 if the mic he used delivered more dynamics and a wider sound-field. • Disc 1 Pittsburgh 1974 Audience 8.5 A rather middle of the road tape that does not offend the ears, but does not offer great separation of instruments. It’s not that it is real muddy either, it’s just that Sabbath were very loud, and unless you were seated ideally for taping, and, if your taping gear was high quality, you “might” get a very good recording of this band. That being said, I have heard much worse, and this is a new tape to circulation. Some good jams, Ozzy is very excited this night. Disc 2 Niagara Falls 1978 Audience 8.7 A bit better than the previous disc in this set, it offers better separation of instruments and more dynamics. In parts, it’s actually even better than the 8.7 rating. A rare tape, it offers something to collectors and features complete versions of the Technical Ecstasy songs which is a big plus. Disc 3 Live Rehearsals and Unknown Live 1979-80 Soundboard 9.8 Two very cool pieces that may have fallen through the cracks for most collectors but thankfully included in this Lost Recordings set. • Audience 8.8 - Truly a marvel, you get three blockbuster acts performing outdoors at a large German Rock Festival in 1974 and you are sitting there listening to something that was probably forgotten within days by everyone as they smoke, drank, and partied until the cows came home in preparation for the next festival that came to town. What I am really saying is that while the band members and audiences probably cannot recall what they did on September 27th, 1974, we can now relive that very day in the lives of all of those people because taper managed to capture everything while sitting in a decent spot and running decent gear. Why he/she did this I do not know but I certainly appreciate their efforts not taking it for granted one bit. The music here sounds good to my ears, very comfortable even if not very distinct in the mid band (where guitars reside) but more than made up for with a beautiful round bass sound and good vocals and highs. • Audience 8.7 - This is a marvel! I mean, who would of thought to bother recording the completely underground opening acts for Genesis!  Come to think of it, maybe even Genesis were still considered to be "underground" around this time! The point being that because someone went to the trouble to bring gear and set up to record you don't immediately expect that person to get ready in time to record each act in its entirety. They had to have planned it, to make sure they had enough blank tape, got situated in a good spot, got it rolling and balanced and then made sure to get the whole performance...MUCH respect to taper!  The sound quality is very good, it is clear the machine used is good gear but I am inclined to think either the house mix was not ideal or his position was not ideal but the recording itself you can tell is solid. The flaw?  I would call it mid-band crunch, or too much information crowding the middle band but not to the extent of distortion or overload, more that it ended up not having the clarity you want. The low end is round and tight, it's a comfortable sound but the overall mix is average. • Disc 1 Denver 1976 Soundboard 9.5 - A very bright and clear board tape with emphasis in the mix for maximum vocal clarity, but I like the way the drums sound and the horns are very clear too. Overall this is a “funk” mix. My only criticism might be the sizzle of the cymbals but they aren’t crowding the mix which might have been a deal-breaker for me. This is good funked up stuff! Disc 2 Oakland 1977 Soundboard/open mic audience 9.3 - I have to say my ears do not lie and there definitely is a professional quality to this recording but I could swear they have ambient mic’s to add atmosphere or perhaps to fill gaps?  When the music is playing it’s most def soundboard, that is all I know. Detroit 1978 Soundboard 9.0 - A somewhat compressed but excellent tape, I particularly love this one because they play Maggot Brain which is my fave PFunk tune. • Audience 9.0 - An incredible document from The Netherlands that you can’t deny.  I am a huge fan of this band, and of Jerney Kaggman in particular (one look will indicate the simple reason why), but seriously if you have any interest at all in progressive rock and have not yet discovered this band, this is a great opportunity to take a chance I promise you won’t regret it. Sound quality here is very good, capturing the power and finesse of the band and with this fine lady singer it’s like you don’t even need a PA because her soaring, soulful voice pierces the veil of sound with ease. • Audience 9.3 - Legendary Mike “The Mic” Millard recording and what a sparkling one it is. It’s hard to place Yes’s music into any sort of time frame because it is timeless, therefore a good 1991 show is just as “good” as a 1971 show, meaning as you listen you realize there’s no real difference in that the 1991 show might as well be the band during any time frame because it’s just as good. • Pro Audience 9.3 - What is a pro audience recording exactly?  This right here. In other words it was set up from the start to be done to the highest standards. These concerts were highly promoted and a lot of media exists including paper goods, photographs, and yes, recordings. This also includes the pre-show gospel songs (disc 3). Personally, I rather enjoy Bob’s “religious” period as I find the songs and performances on a very high level and his singing is the best of his career (imho). • Soundboard 9.4 - All but the Darmstadt 1981 are soundboards of excellent quality. The one and only audience tape is very good though, recorded very up close with all the low end power as evidence that this band shook your bones (I know, I saw them in 1980 and I am still deaf!). Because it is recorded what seems like dead center, you aren’t going to hear the guitars and vocals as distinctly as the drums (super sounding kick by the way) and bass (pumping!).  I like the audience tape here as it is kind of a relief to have a chance to be in the pit with the fans and hear what you would have heard had you been there, and I am not knocking the board tapes they are well done. • Audience 9.2 - A lovely, spacious, almost elegant recording even though it is originating somewhere in the middle I would guess. The sound feels slightly above you, but it’s warm and pleasant. The only knock is that taper missed a little of a couple of songs due to hassles from security. I can forgive that, at least they didn’t seize his gear.  Good job taper!
