FM Radio Broadcast 8.9 - This is not a typical radio broadcast, it is very raw and in-your-face loud! That makes it much more enjoyable to me. The kick drum and bass are nicely present in this mix – but are not boomy or obnoxious so this is a great way to hear instrumentation normally not very defined. This helps make this show sound even heavier now that a solid bottom end is going on. Iron Maiden "Maiden America" Summerfest Henry W. Audience 9.5 - Hard to really improve upon this one - it's lovely in all regards. Great, clean highs and round lows with a great mid range. It's highlighted by a respectful crowd that rarely intrudes while the band is performing but very enthusiastic between songs. Wish I was there. This recording allows me to be there and hear what I missed. Audience 9.1 - A good, clean and bright recording that is clear and detailed. Maybe I would say it could use more bottom end but I am nitpicking, it’s got all the essential things a listener needs to be able to “relax” when listening. You don’t have to strain to hear everyone on stage but mix-wise I would place bass and drums more to the back, relatively speaking, on this tape. Audience 8.4 - Unfortunately this is not the best recording. It’s a big stadium, but the flaws are not the typical big stadium flaws of too far away and echoey, rather a preponderance of bass. At times it lets up though, I mean, the rest of the band comes through (vocals being most audible) and you can hear what is going on but you have to round down some of that bass. A mastering job was done, and a lot of the boom was mitigated, and that is nice because this is the one tour that seems to be lacking in decent recordings (Jazz Tour). I’m thinking this one is for Queen completists, but with such nice artwork accompanying this title it’s worth grabbing if there is a discount going on. Audience 8.8 - A fierce sounding tape that has been re-mastered and shows some depth and instrument separation that previously was not there. The vocals at times are drowned out in the sheer onslaught of bass, drums, and guitars. The band even reminds a little of Deep Purple (check out “Every Hungry Woman” as a prime example) with keyboards featuring prominently so be ready for what is best described as heavier than normal Allman Brothers. Audience 8.8 - This is NOT the Monsters of Rock show, it’s actually the last DLR (classic era) show and it’s pretty good! It’s not super close up or terribly far from stage, seems to be in a nice spot and everything is clear with decent dynamics. Now, it’s a recording from a rowdy crowd but even with that I felt they did not ruin this or intrude unnecessarily – in fact it seemed they wanted to listen to the band and not hold conversations or stupid hooting and whistling during songs. Audience 9.3 - An excellent capture of a great performance by the entire band. With a recording like this where taper is using high quality equipment, the end result is only as good as the PA sound since that is what your mics capture. Austin 2007 Audience 9.6 - Excellent dynamics, strong recording signal that sounds like you are sitting right in front of the band. You can almost make out her diction of lyrics…almost ha ha! A lovely recording. Toronto 2007 Audience 9.1 - A good recording that features nice instrument separation and clarity, it isn’t as round and tight as the Austin show on disc 1 but it’s very strong in its own right. Audience 9.4 -A fierce sounding tape with major emphasis on Tony, and man, you can hear every nuance of the guitar and it is literally spine-tingling…but at the expense of Ronnie’s vocals. Not to worry too much, I mean, it’s just a badass recording you tend to overlook that. This is well worth listening to I highly recommend it. Audience 8.7 - There are more recordings of this band pre-1983 that post, which I find rather odd. I found this recordings to be adequate to hear what they were like in 1983, and they were good, but the recording does not highlight the vocals, rather on guitar and drums which is fine but I love this band’s vocal acrobatics and want them front and center. Pro Audience 9.3 - What is a pro audience recording exactly? This right here. In other words it was set up from the start to be done to the highest standards. These concerts were highly promoted and a lot of media exists including paper goods, photographs, and yes, recordings. This also includes the pre-show gospel songs (disc 3). Personally, I rather enjoy Bob’s “religious” period as I find the songs and performances on a very high level and his singing is the best of his career (imho). Studio Quality 9.7 - Here is Prince’s rookie card! It’s quite interesting to hear, a pretty well rounded set of recordings musically, with maybe that late 70’s dated sound (still red hot) but it’s hard to say if I heard it in 1977 would I have thought this artist would develop into such an immense talent. Stockholm 1983 Audience 8.9 - This tape starts off kind of average and slowly but surely keeps getting better until what we have is a very good tape of a really good show. As most already know, any good tape of this line up is VERY welcome as it showcases what I consider a great band – I did not say a great Black Sabbath because you can’t get away from Ian’s obvious vocal inflections that inevitably recall his old band. That being said if you listen to this without that bias you realize how good this BAND was in 1983. Paris 1983 Soundboard 9.1 - A most welcomed thing amongst Black Sabbath collectors without question is this board tape with the Ian Gillan line up. I love the material they recorded on Born Again, this is almost the logical progression from Technical Ecstasy, to me anyway. The music is more ideally suited to Ian Gillan’s vocals than it would have been to Ronnie James Dio and I think that is obvious. Black Sabbath Quebec City 1983 Audience 8.9 - I like this tape because you really get to hear and appreciate what the bass is all about in Sabbath and it is here in excellent detail. Everyone shines, it’s great to have this abundance of riches because this short-lived period of Black Sabbath is certainly one of the most unique sounding.
