  • Soundboard  9.4 - Brilliant!
  • Prolific San Antonio progressive hard rock band responsible for carrying the torch for over 45 years. This is the only known complete live recording of them, you'll hear a mix of originals and prog rock covers played to perfection.
  • All Soundboard - All Excellent  (4 Shows)
  • We got this tape years ago when it was submitted by a customer of ours who thought we would be interested in it. He was from Ohio, and told me he was friendly with the guys in this band. He managed to get their demo recording and sent it on behalf of the band. That was around 1986, and the recordings dated around 1983. That was the last I heard about it. Decades later, I rediscovered the tape and decided it was time. Heavy and complex, the first track of their demo tape was 45 minutes long!  As you can imagine, there were no labels that took them on...except me of course!
  • Soundboard  9.4 - I love how they relate to the audience. I could have hung with these guys. Oh, their music is deep and insightful too. Great stuff here.
  • Soundboard  9.3 - Crisp, wonderful recording and mix.
  • Soundboard  9.2 - Very direct and forceful sounding, but a touch harsh I would say. Still I am being picky, it’s a damn good one!

  • Audience  7.3 - A rip-roaring, over the top onslaught of greasy rock and roll captured painfully close to the PA. Sounds like this may be lifted from vinyl, and there’s tape noise artifacts present. But, all that taken into account, this is still a very good time and not painful on the ears despite the volume (I think someone attempted to remaster this but it can use one more time).
  • Pro  9.0 - Both are excellent, bright, snappy recordings. Goes without saying if you don’t have this you should get it!
  • FM Broadcast  9.3 - Crisp and airy, with hardly any complaints but if I were to do so, I would have toned down the guitars actually as I found sometimes they were actually too up front…some people would prefer that though. A great one no matter.
  • Hard blues rock band formed in 1975 in Houston, TX. Featured vocalist BB. Watson who left Houston to pursue a career in Nashville as a C&W singer. He had some fleeting success, eventually came back to Houston and worked with Michael Knust (Fever Tree) and Keith York (Albatross, Rare Breed) for a stint and also attempted to reunite the Rare Breed (those sessions contained on this CD). Rare Breed also featured the guitar of Robert Hampton before he joined Hooker. These are all the known recordings.
  • Disc 1 & 2 - Audience  8.6 Disc 3 - Audience  8.9 Great sound mix here and frequency range ... you can crank this one!
  • Aud 8.5 and PRO RADIO 9.6  - The Brisbane is a raucous, loud, crashing kind of show/recording that gives one a sense of sitting on the side of the stage and watching them. The BBC material is awesome!
  • FM Broadcast  8.8 - Once you get past the first song which has some channel dropouts, it’s all systems go full tilt boogie for reals. This is just flat out awesome!
  • Audience 8.8 - This is better than I give it credit for, mainly because it has all the elements needed to be very enjoyable - namely: clarity, separation of instruments, and atmosphere. Where it lacks the necessary qualifications to enter into 9.0 and above rating status is more in the dynamics range (is low end low, is high end high, are mids clear and punchy?) which here are expressed mostly with the lovely, brassy and defined bass sound. This is good! But perhaps we are spoiled now with all the audio riches we have at our disposal. This is a very good old tape, with a re-mastering I assume it would rise to the 9.0 level, but the bones are here. E.L.P Odeon Theatre Birmingham, UK 1972-11-24 Disc 1 01. ABADDONS BOLERO 02. • Audience 9.7 - Incredible sound! Massive drums, tight and solid bass, spacious keys...damn this could come out officially. Emerson, Lake & Palmer Long Beach Arena Long Beach, CA August 14, 1977 Disc 1 01 Karn Evil 9: 1st Impression, Part 2 02 Hoedown 03 Tarkus 04 Take a Pebble 05 Piano Concerto No 1 1st Movement 06 Take A Pebble 07 C'est La Vie 08 Lucky Man 09 Knife-Edge Disc 2 10 Pictures At An Exhibition 11 Still…You Turn Me On 12 Tank 13 Nutrocker 14 Pirates 15 Fanfare For The Common Man - Rondo
  • Audience 8.7 - Loud and brassy, with some distortion on the cymbals at the high end. Taper must have been in the front row on the PA side of the stage. That being said, this is what makes this recording frightening to the ears, a terrifying journey into the unrelenting power and charisma of ELP in their mid 70's prime. There is nothing sedate about this live concert experience, and because it was recorded on very good equipment, even despite the overwhelming loudness of it, it's a rather true representation. Side Note: Jerusalem is a song with more mellow passages and here this recording absolutely shines, jumping quickly to a 9.2 rating and actually remaining better even during the loud segments as it starts to even out - this could be due to taper either moving further back, or making some other minor adjustment. Something certainly is changing with the recording as tape noise increases but the distortion lessens, this could mean he lowered the gain, so the volume had to be boosted during the transfer as his recording levels were much lower. Either way, it had a net positive effect. Unfortunately not the complete show. • Audience 9.6 - Fantastic, spacious and fully enveloping sound with good, solid dynamics. Also I found the audio mix to be above average. Not boomy, all instruments present and clear, and Geddy placed in the middle as another instrument. Great stuff. • Audience 9.4 - Absolutely fantastic tape! This gives you everything and more, including some intangible aspects that people ought not to disregard, and that is atmosphere. What was it like at the show? I want that immersive experience, and I want a clear sounding tape, and I am willing to forgive the lack of some dynamics in exchange for that - but here you don't have to make that sacrifice because this recording is VERY dynamic! I love the meaty drums, and vocals are soaring above and very clear. Guitar is MONSTEROUS too, and mixed properly. This is almost a must have, actually it is good enough to be a top 5 at least for the Tony Martin era. • Brand New - Soundboard/Studio Quality -For a band with such a vast output, there is very little material out there of Rush's music in its embryonic stage. In fact, the only glimpse we've been given of their songs as works in progress have been the few times they've debuted compositions live prior to their being recorded. But to hear actual studio demos, well, that's another thing entirely. Here they are the power Windows Album fully “Demoed” along with a unreleased studio track!

  • Audience 9.2 - One thing you get from a great audience tape that a soundboard can't reproduce is how the vocals actually sound. What I mean is that when a signal goes directly from mic to board, it's going to be nothing like what the vocalist will sound like to the audience. The PA system translates vocals to the ears the way the band wants it to sound like, and therefore a truer representation of the live sound that you go to a show to get. This tape delivers that and more - atmosphere, and great individual instruments (especially drums), this is really good stuff. Heart St. Paul Civic Center St. Paul, MN 12-05-1987 Disc 1 1.
