Audience 8.8 - A fascinating recording, obviously with high quality microphones because there’s a detail here, especially with drums and bass (managing to realistically capture the depth of bass and the precision of drums). Guitar and to a lesser degree vocals get pushed slightly behind drums and bass, and the keyboards are a little bit behind those. Not to worry, even when the guitar work is almost tough to make out (taper must have been on one side of the stage) you have to remember Gilmour plays a lot of high notes which tend to carry across any hall so they are picked up here. My opinion is that because of the elegance of the way the bass and drums are recorded, when the guitar is really present it makes for something pretty amazing when it all comes together (and it does, just not all the time). Audience 8.7 - A bright tape, not so much depth of sound but certainly clear, and crunchy, with a prominent guitar that fills most of the space here. Give it five minutes and you will be having a good time and appreciating this line up because it is quite good…and so was the Dehumanizer album. Pro Studio and Pro Live All four volumes are excellent start to finish and even though songs do appear on other releases, there are inevitably always some gems that turn up on these well produced comps that you don’t find elsewhere. I think this one is well worth the effort, and you can cherry pick the volumes or go all in, save some money, and by getting the complete set you get the cool track sheet that does not come with each volume separately. Soundboard 9.5 - So I haven’t kept up with this band since Steve Morse joined. I’ve always loved them, but they just fell off my radar. It was with great pleasure that I reacquainted myself with them as I reviewed this show. It’s multi-layered, multi-dimensional music with some resemblance to the old band if Ritchie traded places with his Southern fried twin brother!  I mean, it works, don’t get me wrong – but it can fool you because it’s not Ritchie’s band by any stretch. I like this one maybe a little better to be honest. This is a “deeper” Deep Purple actually, and the orchestra behind them makes it that much more interesting, if sometimes a little bit “cabaret” but it still rocks when it has to and the guitar work by Morse is impeccable.
