Audience 8.8 - This may not be a tape with good song separation or detail but it occupies a sonic range that is very comfortable on the ears. Usually when attending a very loud, bombastic heavy rock or metal concert you aren’t going to distinguish much anyway, you will basically hear a roaring sound…but this tape delivers a little more than just that. This is a good document and taper used good gear, sat in a good spot, and recorded everything. I would call this recording completely immersive, with a warm, inviting sound. Adrian 1969 & Detroit 1970 Audience 9.1 - Surprisingly good and clear! I was very tempted to call this a board tape but there’s too many artifacts that suggest otherwise…but it’s an amazing find being now the earliest known Amboy Dukes tape. Detroit 1970 Audience 8.6 - The audio is clear but the live mix drowns out vocals. Drums are perhaps the strongest here, followed by the guitar/bass in tandem but I can also hear keys in the mix…so the verdict is that this tape is most welcome and delivers where it is needed even though it is a little rough around the edges. SDBRD 8.8 - One of the best, if not the best, of the later Ted Nugent & The Amboy Dukes live recordings. Great playing abounds, and Ted is Ted, as usual, and it kind of makes one wonder – did David Lee Roth get his schtick from having been to one of these gigs? Seems like it. -
Upper Darby 1975 Audience 8.7 - This is not an easy one to pull off – you have to give a lot of credit to this taper as he’s trying to capture an excessively loud and aggressive rock band in a smallish club. That means you’d better be in a good spot with a tape machine that can prevent distortion due to high volume. Taper got those two essentials right. What is the flaw then? I would say unless you are super picky, you really will understand the value of this tape. Good sound quality, you hear everything (both guitars clear!), drums, bass even! So it isn’t board tape perfect, but I think this rare 1975 audience tape belongs in every fan’s collection. It is that good. Central Park 1975 Soundboard 9.8 - What a thrill this is! Soundboard 9.8 - It's been a blast hearing all these killer Nuge board tapes that have surfaced recently. This one is a rip-roaring beast, within the first three minutes you know your going to just get annihilated. Pro Audience 9.1 - More than likely this was recorded for broadcast, but it's not a soundboard, or, perhaps it is a close/distance mic'd job because it is definitely not from the audience. It's probably a stage mic placement, that is about all I can decipher because while it is not quite up to prime time for a pristine radio broadcast, it is the next best thing in that you get more atmospherics than a straight board recording. Soundboard 9.3 - What you would expect from a direct to tape from the mixing console recording. It's super clear and clean and every instrument in a place where it's easily distinguishable, but don't assume it's just a dry, lifeless thing 'cause it ain't. It's not mixed for a release of any kind, but as a reference, so there's nothing to tame the Wildman when he's on the microphone - and that's the life of the party right there. Soundboard 8.9 - Mixed for television broadcast, the sound is a little better than your average videotape source audio in that it is not nearly as compressed sounding. Vocals are mixed hotter than normal but not too bad, some occasional channel disturbances that last seconds and are resolved and are few and far between so overall this is a real good one. Soundboard 9.2 - Strong and clear as a board should be, but probably not mixed for a live album release, more for front of house sound which explains the interesting way the two guitars are panned…I rather like it. This allows you to really get the musicality of the performance and that is where this tape literally takes off. The playing is top shelf and worthy of paying serious attention to. On a side note, every now and then there will be a tape problem that resolves itself right away and I think this is present on the master. It is not a deal breaker at all, it happens few and far between. Not a lot of Taste live recordings out there, this is a complete show, it’s worth having. -

Audience 9.5 - Interesting recording, it’s very clear and present and you might assume it is a board tape, but it sounds like mic capture to my ears. Very bright and clear, a MUST have! -
Audience 8.4 - Little know psyche/prog act that delivers a very competent level of performance that captivates the listener. It’s their seemingly improved jamming that sets them apart, I call it “intuitive jamming” and they are masters at it. A little like Jethro Tull at times. Fantastic! -

Audience 8.9 - This tape gets the nod for being a well-captured piece of music at a time when music was seeing significant change. One of those change bands, beginning in the 2nd half of the 70's, was Talking Heads and they remained at the forefront for quite a few years. This tape shows why...it's got a very realistic feel to it and the band sounds confident. SDBRD 8.8 - A rollicking good time is what you are going to get here, maybe not the ideal sound mix (although it gets better), but this is a band that despite all outward appearance is quite talented musically (and seem to be quite natural performing live on stage). You will love the music and even the on stage banter…perhaps this band was the role model for Steel Panther? Ha ha! Soundboard 8.8 - Another strange board tape, probably because they used different effects in their live performance that had to be run through the board. Sometimes you also get a little over-driving when the kick drum pedal hits. It’s a blasting board tape, extremely kinetic and strange at times but a lot of fun too. -
Audience 8.6 - This is hard to rate because the recording is both good and bad at the same time, depending on how you like to get your music delivered into your ear. Why? Because it is separated, one side gets vocals and the other side gets massive guitar, with drums going across both speakers…and I LOVE it! But, you may not, it depends I guess on your taste. -

Audience 9.5 - You can relax into this show, it's occupying a very pleasant space when the soundwaves wash over you and you begin to have a sense of the size of the venue, the space around you, and the distance from the stage. That's what I like about smaller venue recordings, and modern taping gear is getting so much better with the mic technology and level adjust that it's really hard to screw it up. Audience 8.8 - A surprisingly good tape here, with pretty much everything you require including really great atmosphere. The flaws have mainly to do with the ability of the equipment to supply bandwidth, which basically translates into depth or dynamics, which are present but maybe not to the degree you prefer. Audience 8.5 - Everything very present, only faults are the loss of uppers and lower frequency response due to limitations of analog tape and time. You can add some EQ, although this does sound reasonably fine as it is but season to taste. -
