• Audience  6.4 - Very lo-fi and not super clear but it’s a very cool early show.
  • Soundboard 9.1 - The source used for this CD is a DAT tape made from a direct transfer of Joey Molland’s tapes of the show. Whether that means it is the same as what else is out there, I do not know, but it is possible that the radio station did their own recording for broadcast and other releases use the FM broadcast. This is not that!  The sound quality is uneven at times while the levels are adjusted but after that it’s smooth sailing.

  • FM Broadcast 9.2 - A great recording that captures the atmosphere and the thrilling musicianship brightly, if maybe a touch too boldly on the meters…no worries, there’s nothing to interfere with your listening pleasure. The band…did not know much about them but they sure have the chops. I get a little bit of a sort of Whitesnake influence, but not any of the trademark cheesiness. Jake E. Lee is very acrobatic without unnecessary shredding, I would not call his playing shred at all in fact. It’s actually quite tasteful and great use of effects…thrilling at times, and very few dive bombs and when he does it’s in and out, they don’t overstay their welcome. I could say that for the songs too, they all have good balance and set up all the solos nicely. They even cover Purple Haze…umm…maybe they should have left that one alone. But everything else is tops. • All Soundboard 9.3 - This entirely depends on how much you want to hear blazing, inventive lead guitar and don’t mind if the bass sounds more like a rhythm guitar, That is what the bass sounds like to my ears, it’s there, but it’s not “low end” it’s more like a heavy rhythm guitar. It works for this style of rock though – and it’s all good stuff, if maybe a tad generic with the singing. • PRO Radio Broadcast  9.4 - Excellent tight, warm, sweet spot all the way through here! To sound engineers – this is how you record and mix a bass guitar and drums.
  • Audience  9.0 - Both Shows are 9.0 ... Simply gorgeous, lush, well balanced recordings made by people who obviously knew what they were doing. The only knock is maybe a little squishing in the middle during peak volume moments. I wish I could get my hands on any other tapes these guys made! Get this you won’t regret it.
  • Audience  8.8 - Sparkling! There’s a really wonderful, intimate atmosphere permeating this recording, and I don’t mean “hall reverb” either. The warmth of the recording captures the warmth of the artist/audience experience. There’s a bit of chatter present but it’s all part of the deal. Get this one!

  • Barbara Pennington was the singer of the Houston underground rock band TEMPEST (Three albums released since 1975). This single predates their 1st album, and was recorded with the pre-Tempest band BEOWULF, later known as TEMPEST. Zoom in on the images to see condition. • Audience 8.3 - Limitations with the microphone is probably what prevents this recording from blossoming as it sometimes seems like it wants to do. You can hear it, for instance, during some of the passages, but I think the overloading of the bass crowds out the guitar a bit too much (although you can hear guitar, just not in a clear and detailed manner). Drums and keyboards dominate with a very insistent, pulsing bass undercurrent throughout. Does that count this out?  Not at all, due to the disparity of live BJH recordings, I think this one is worth exploring. The compositions and playing make up for the limitations on the tape. • Brand New - A collection of Quorthon and Bathory rare tracks, most of them unreleased. It also includes half a dozen cover tunes, from The Beatles to Sext Pistols or Motorhead, recorded by Quorthon though his career. A CD for true Bathory aficionados.
  • Audience  8.6 - Because it is primarily a keyboard dominated group, the audio rings out pretty clear to where you hear everything well. It is somewhat compressed though, with a low ceiling where the slightest bit of audio break-up is occurring (so do not crank this one up). It is a decent recording despite the limitations.
