• Audience 9.3  - At first I thought this might be a board, it’s very clean and clear. Then in spots, especially crowd (but some boards get bleed from stage mics) but certainly during hand claps it gives it away. It’s a really sweet recording for sure, and just sublime playing all over the place. • Audience 9.8 - This is so good, so smooth, so spacious, so warm, so amazing that not only could it be officially release…it SHOULD be officially released. • Soundboard 9.1 - In this recording, what you will notice right away is the massive sound that they dialed in for Charlie…very different but I like it!  The rest is OK, not as full bodied as I’d prefer it to be but it gets the job done. • Soundboard 9.0 - Interesting hearing this line up in such clarity,  it certainly allows you to make a better judgment on the music, which by the way is pretty damn good. It’s different, in some ways, but it is still very good. My advice is not to go into it thinking you are getting Black Sabbath – rather consider it a Tony Iommi side project, then it makes more sense and will grab you in a better way. • Audience 8.4 - The same taping crew that did the Ozzy Osbourne, and it sounds very similar but maybe a touch clearer. It’s a pretty good effort, especially when you consider the year, and what I mean is that the tape recording equipment used during most of the 80’s did not usually produce anything to write home about. So, overall, this is a really decent early period Def Leppard recording. DEF LEPPARD Music Mountain South Fallsburg, NY. • Audience 8.3 - One of those tapes that captures the power of the band, but does not deliver crisp definition…that being said, you must listen to this all the way through. It’s been cleaned up as best as could be and it delivers MUCH more audio than it ever did before prior to modern mastering techniques.  A worthy addition to collections. When you arrive to the drum solo section, you will hear what this tape had the potential to present, it sounds great. • Audience 8.7 - This is a very good recording that only needs more definition in the highs, but I still think this has to rank high in the pantheon of 1971 audience tapes. It’s a show that seems to invoke an almost reverential vibe in the audience, as they are quiet and respectful throughout but show bursts of appreciate at song endings. A good one, in many respects. • Soundboard 8.9 - A little bit hissy, but it is a board tape so you will be able to enjoy the music….and it is great music! • Audience 8.6 - Surprisingly decent, it’s got some “rattle and bones” but overall it is highly listenable with a good timbre to it. Anything from this period is welcome, and this old tape has not only survived the decades intact but delivers on the enjoyment meter considerably. The bonus tracks vary but are generally pretty good quality with the tell-tale sound of vinyl ever present throughout. No attempt was made to clean it up, this is due to the sensitive nature of the high end on these recordings, it would seem any real noise reduction or cleaning would compromise that. • Audience 9.3 - Again, we discover that yes some people do really know how to use stealth recording gear to great effect.  Lovely balance, warm, in the pocket and thankfully so because this tour was perhaps him at his peak. That is not to say he does not perform well now, it is just that this tour seems to have them so up and enthusiastic almost every show, with great special guests and great set lists. • Landover 1973 Soundboard 9.3 - A solid recording that was broadcast over the air and features a nice wide stereo mix showing detail in the bass and crisp, crunchy guitar not to mention having another well recorded Keith Moon experience…and of course Roger is in fine form (when is he not?). Wembley 1975 Audience 8.5 - Not horrible, the music is all here in pretty clear form (I get a good picture of drums thankfully), but the highlight is the stage banter where you get a lot of stuff that will entertain for sure. I am happy say that the recording does also get better, so that once you are firmly ensconced in your listening chair you will start to get into this one more and more. Note: Some of the following evenings show in San Diego was used to replace music that was lost due to technical issues and while not as good as the LA show it is still very good sounding. • Audience 8.4 - An incredibly loud tape, bordering on catastrophe but not quite going over the red line of doom. What I mean is, the tape is just way overloaded, but it hangs together miraculously just enough to be able go ahead and listen through…although at times it’s so intense you just have to turn the volume down a bit. Now, when you get to, say, The Rain Song – yeah, the tape shines…it’s just that kind of tape. NOTE: After the tape flip in Rain Song, the taper seems to have been able to dial down the recording level a little bit, it seems to get a little more manageable.
