• Soundboard 9.5 - Spectacular sound, ferocious performance! This is, without a doubt, one absolute must-have for anyone with even a remote interest in Judas Priest…but I’ll take it even further and say ANYONE who loves hard rock should get this one. • Audience 9.4 - If the house itself sounds great, and your taping with high quality equipment (most likely a small digital unit with a good, dynamic mic and level control), then your result will be something like this. A lot of detail comes through, as does, from time to time, a rowdy audience – that adds to the atmosphere and thankfully never wrecks the audio recording. • Audience 9.3 - A very good tape, with less of the perfect instrumental separation but more of the live power that can be delivered through good house P.A.’s, and as long as taper is not a complete moron and/or using radio shack circa 1985 gear, chances are you’ll end up with a nice recording…as this one is. • Audience 8.8  - The Zurich aftershow is decent enough for what had to be a packed club, so yeah it’s somewhat claustrophobic as you feel like you are squeezed between people and you are trying to bootleg the damn show ha ha!  It’s good, it’s not great. The rest of the material is excellent quality from various source but all great. PRINCE The War Disc 1 Newpower Soul Tour Aftershow Kaufleuten, Zurich 24th August 1998 1. • Audience 9.1 - Atmospheric, where even if it may be recorded from somewhere in the middle, the immersive experience has been well captured. Vocals sound lush and full, and percussion is crisp and well defined with a nice, rounded bottom end holding it all down. This is a decent recording that allows the listener to imagine where they are sitting and how the event sounded, the actual P.A. sound. Prince Gold / Ultimate Live Experience Tour Aftershow Vorst Nationaal, Brussels 28th March 1995 1. People Get Ready 2. The Jam 3. I Believe In You 4. Days Of Wild 5. Proud Mary 6. Jailhouse Rock 7. • Audience 9.6 - Superb clarity and separation of instruments while retaining a cool, honest live vibe which is what recording from an audience can produce so long as the gear being used is high quality and taper knows how to use it. Here, they do. Prince Paisley Park 3-28/29-2014 Disc 1 1. Why Come 2. Day In The Sun 3. My Family 4. North carolina 5. Share It With You 6. On The Way Up (inc. Love Machine) 7. Catch Me If U Can 8. • Audience 9.4 - Superb capture! There’s nothing I would change about this tape, it’s got a wonderful electric vibe and strong depth that leaves you wanting more. A great testament to the song craft of Gary Wright. Gary Wright Boston Music Hall Boston, MA USA 11 October 1975 01 -Love Is Alive 02 -Blind Feeling 03 -Dream Weaver 04 -Can't Find The Judge 05 -Kyle 06 -I Know A Place 07 -keyboard solo 08 -drum solo 09 -instrumental 10 -Are You Weepin'
  • Audience 8.7 - It’s not necessarily a keeper but it is still a very good sounding tape that has maybe a touch more “atmosphere” than your used to. I could hear everything fine, although it isn’t the best in terms of instrument separation – it’s part and parcel sometimes when listening to audience recordings. I still can recommend this one, because it’s good enough that you won’t abandon it and it will sit nicely in your collection. • Soundboard 9.3 - A good solid board but more importantly it’s a stand out show. I would say, and I’ve listened to quite a few, this is one of the best. Eric Clapton "Legend Comes Alive" The Budokan Theatre Tokyo, Japan November 2, 1974 Disc 1 1 - Smile 2 - Let It Grow 3 - Can't Find My Way Home 4 - Better Make It Through Today 5 - I Shot The Sheriff 6 - Key To The Highway Disc 2 1 - Willie And The Hand Jive - Get Ready 2 - Badge 3 - Presence Of The Lord 4 - Singin' The Blues Band Lineup: Eric Clapton    Guitar, Vocals Jamie Oldaker    Drums Dick Sims    Keyboards Carl Radle    Bass George Terry    Guitar Yvonne Elliman    Backing Vocals Marcy Levy    Backing Vocals
  • Audience 9.4 - If you can’t get into this rollicking, electric southern fried punk and roll then you aren’t alive. This kicks total ass!  Great sound quality and great atmosphere combined with a band that was unfairly ignored by the media at a time when new music and new attitudes were flourishing. I can listen to this all day…Fantastic! • Audience 8.6/Pro 9.1 - This recording was not done on great equipment but it’s not a load of crap. The high frequency range is well represented but at times when the horns hit higher notes it gets a little screechy. The atmosphere is a touch bouncy and live, mid and low frequencies are present but not powerful. Overall it’s not bad, but it isn’t going to set the world on fire. The BBC material is a vast improvement from the ’77 stuff as it is a pro recording and broadcast. • Audience 8.8/Audience 8.7  - Both recordings here (from the same taper) occurred on two different gigs at the same venue in the same year.  Both are consistent, and good. • Audience 8.8 - A very lively atmosphere that, for me, really put me back to the early 1980’s. The recording is pretty good, the band is hot, the crowd is into it. • Audience 9.1 - I waited a long time to get to hear a very strong and clear audience tape of this line up. The wait is over! This rocks! Reading 1983 FM Broadcast 9.3 - I can’t say for sure if this was broadcast or not but it does sound like one of those recordings that ended up over the air. Why?  I don’t know it just has that kind of feel to it, and for that reason this should get repeated plays because it’s simply excellent. Black Sabbath U.I.C. • Audience 8.8/Soundboard 9.3 - Very good audience source for the Philly show, perhaps maybe just somewhat lacking in bottom end and of course it’s denser than the clean channel mix of a board tape or broadcast but for 1984, I don’t know I think it’s pretty good. • Audience 9.2 - Continuing on with the never ending tour Dylan and company put on a great show this night in LA.  When I saw them in Houston on this tour, being in a live hall (Houston Music Hall) and the loudness and everything else I was not aware how much GE Smith (yes, the guy with the 1001 goofy guitar faces) contributed. • Soundboard 9.4 - This is a commercial grade soundboard recording. It is clean, professional, highly enjoyable – but I don’t know I kind of miss the atmospherics, the rush of the crowd, the occasional scream…call me an old fashioned kind of guy but sometimes the Stones are more appreciated when they are a bit…disheveled. • Studio Demos 8.3-8.7 - Quality ranges from just listenable to pretty decent. However what you get here is quite illuminating – I had no idea this band began as a sort of gothic blend of Black Flag, Misfits, and Motorhead. I hear punk influence all through these demos. I think they got onto a cool, raw, guttural vibe and thought “let’s run with this” and it took them down the metal path. • Audience 9.1 - I am always surprised when I hear such good recordings from this time period and then I remember that mics and P.A.’s and acoustics were all relative to the capture in that if the combinations were good, the result would also be good. This recording presents excellent separation of instruments with great live sound mix of the instruments, so much so that Free convinces you they could have soldiered on as a stadium act rather than dismantle and reform as Bad Company. Either way, I’ll enjoy what we have left of this venerable band in the form of live tapes like this.
