Audience 9.3 - An excellent sounding recording right here, and for the time period that is more satisfying to listen to because of the tones you get. Audience/Soundboard 8.5-9.0 - This tape only really presents the picture well during songs like Dazed and Confused, Since I’ve Been Loving You, and the acoustic tunes (I am referring only to the non-board songs) so, most of the show is very listenable and FIERY with Page just having himself a great show. It’s an old tape recently resurrected with some work done on it but I think it can be re-mastered again because the music is there – it’s actually pretty good (the other songs not mentioned just suffer a little from the massive volume crowding the audio spectrum and the tape machine struggling to capture it…but even those numbers are listenable. For me, the Dazed and Confused here is well worth the price of admission – just AMAZING! Audience 8.6 - This very decent old tape, previously ignored by collectors, takes a minute or two to get going so don’t be disappointed just hang in there. Once it settles in, it’s a very good tape that suffers maybe from some tape noise but really what I am going to tell you is that I would listen to this again because the performance here is among the very best, most ferocious I have honestly ever heard and I have heard MANY Rush recordings. Audience 8.7 - A rattling, rambunctious recording that you will LOVE because it’s the sonic equivalent of the Stones’ personalities. Sure, yeah, this recording is imperfect but it does NOT suffer from muddiness, rather the opposite, it’s very “sharp” and sometimes cymbal crashes irritate (not always), and yet I listened all the way through and had a great time with this show. The quality is not really an issue. This is a just a classic Stones gig and the fact we have the opening acts, man, that is amazing! Soundboard 9.4 - This is a collection of all soundboard recordings and they all vary but all excellent. I gave a generally very high rating because all in all I think it rates at least in the mid 9’s based on not only quality of sound but of content as well. Note: I heard one audience recording on this CD but it was very good quality. Audience 8.8 - Very clear and leaning towards the mid and upper frequency bands but not in any kind of detrimental way. Supposedly the original source used is a very rare Japanese bootleg LP and that, with a little work done, presents a fine document we can all enjoy. The Reseda 87 material is soundboard with Mick Jagger fronting, and even though the original source features much more material, that is not technically the “live” gig but rather some studio rehearsals which are not present here. Audience 8.5-8.7 - So why the dual rating? Because it is the limitation of the recording equipment that prevents this from earning the solid 8,7 which is a great rating for a long forgotten Ziggy show. So my take on this is that during loud sections, the guitar takes a back seat in the mix while Ziggy is very prominent – which is kind of cool – but during mellower songs (of which there are a few) the mix is much better all around. All in all, this is a pretty good old tape and I don’t think it will disappoint you. Cleveland 1978 Radio Broadcast 8.8 - A tape that shows signs of age and has that dated quality to it but is still good. It just sounds kinda, pimp and funky just like the music.New York 1981 Radio Broadcast 9.3 - A fresh sounding tape, and a rather fresh performance that does not showcase a drunken, sloppy ‘Dolls kinda gig but a much more focused and professional with plenty of edge to remind you who is fronting kinda gig. Audience 8.7 - This is a fun recording to listen to, sure it’s a bit ramshackle being as if you’ve been tossed into the mosh pit (in 1973 I guess the entire venue resembled a mosh pit full of people too stoned to mosh!), but it’s actually not bad. I imagine by this time the band must realize that glitter and costumes aren’t enough to carry the show when your competition is Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones, and other bands of that stature. Even if Bowie had anticipated all that by the time of this performance (undoubtedly he did), still the Ziggy Stardust premise seemed to be working well with the audiences as this tape can attest. Radio and TV Broadcast 8.7-9.7 - Thankfully most of this material falls into the high 9’s in terms of audio quality but the compilation wins high points for presenting a chronological look into the bands broadcasts on TV in 1969. AM Radio Broadcast 8.7 - This recording is most definitely from AM radio but it is clear and the dual guitar activities are on full display. You won’t get the depth of bass here, and sometimes you realize how dated a recording has to be if it originates off AM radio…but you listen anyway because it’s still good, and it’s still Wishbone Ash. Soundboard 9.1 - This is not a complete show, but WHO cares? It’s a vintage 1969 soundboard of the Who and man, it smokes! I’ll take it whoever which way I can get it (see what I did there?). BTW the complete show does exist, but the audio quality of the audience recording that makes up the difference is of significantly less fidelity that it was decided not to even include it for release. Audience 8.9 - A nice recording job in that you really hear the music as clear as can be but also some atmosphere to let you know where you are at. It’s surprising really to hear how an amateur audience tape from ’74 can feature such nice depth, this is not a brittle or thin recording, there’s some meat to this one. Nice! Audience 9.7 - Contrary to what you initially would have thought about Prince audience recordings, that the people there to see him aren’t exactly the type you would think would be overly concerned about getting an excellent capture…sure I am profiling here but it’s true - you expect this crowd is mainly there to bump and grind with each other and party like it’s 1999 or something. Now, I have to say after listening to many Prince audience recordings I come away as being impressed for the most part. This tape confirms what I now believe, that Prince bootleggers actually give a shit about the quality of the sound recordings they make. I LOVE the sound and feel of this tape…hands down I put this up against ANY soundboard you want to throw at me. This has ELECTRICITY and you don’t get that out of line recordings.
