There is some minor variance in the first disc being that is taken from four different sources, but consistently good. The exact date of the last disc (the rehearsals) is unknown but believed to be ’93 although people say it can be as early as 1989 also. Audience 8.7 - Both Volumes are very good and clear, but I give the nod to the first Volume because during the second one there are some odd stage sound situations and I have to fault the sound man who was probably nodding at the desk (possibly shot up with gram before the gig?). Anyway, historically speaking what you have here is pure gold and the literal birth of country rock. Great players, solid all around. Audience 8.8 - A fascinating recording, obviously with high quality microphones because there’s a detail here, especially with drums and bass (managing to realistically capture the depth of bass and the precision of drums). Guitar and to a lesser degree vocals get pushed slightly behind drums and bass, and the keyboards are a little bit behind those. Not to worry, even when the guitar work is almost tough to make out (taper must have been on one side of the stage) you have to remember Gilmour plays a lot of high notes which tend to carry across any hall so they are picked up here. My opinion is that because of the elegance of the way the bass and drums are recorded, when the guitar is really present it makes for something pretty amazing when it all comes together (and it does, just not all the time). Audience 9.7 - This was broadcast live at the time but I can tell you it is not a soundboard. There is too much ambience (a small club apparently) that gives you the impression they did not even need to run a board feed for this broadcast. It’s superbly captured, the detail, the depth, man…this is how they should record all concerts! Amazing stuff. Pro Studio 9.4 - This supposedly comes from an acetate but it sounds very good, too good to be an acetate but who knows? Short but sweet, and worth the price to get to hear this collaboration. What could have become of it had it been pursued more at the time. I think it is pretty good stuff, let’s face it, Arthur Lee does sound better vocally than Jimi.
