Audience 8.7 - Recorded with reel to reel tape machine, this is actually very good although it begins with some fluctuations as the tapers settle in. They do an admirable job throughout as the tape stabilizes, they comment here and there but keep it to a minimum, as is the crowd noise. So, it’s a relaxing and enjoyable experience, the band sounding like they are not willing to sell out just yet as their set is not necessarily a top 40 showcase which is good actually. Some hits, but a lot of deep and meaningful music. Audience 8.4 - This is a welcome tape as far as I am concerned. Anything with Ian Gillan has my attention, and this show is much better than the Dublin gig, which I mention because it also contains the infrequently performed “Hot Line” so it’s a big win for fans. The vocals are really clear, and so is the crunchy guitar, with occasionally a little phasing effect but kept to a minimum. Not hi-fidelity, but very good and well worth having in the collection! Audience 8.7 - A bright tape, not so much depth of sound but certainly clear, and crunchy, with a prominent guitar that fills most of the space here. Give it five minutes and you will be having a good time and appreciating this line up because it is quite good…and so was the Dehumanizer album. Audience 8.8 - You know right away that this is a decent recording but it takes a song to find the sweet spot. You keep hoping it opens up more, and it does, and then just sit back and enjoy…until the power failure (hence the title). Things are resolved quickly though and the fun begins again. Pro Studio and Pro Live All four volumes are excellent start to finish and even though songs do appear on other releases, there are inevitably always some gems that turn up on these well produced comps that you don’t find elsewhere. I think this one is well worth the effort, and you can cherry pick the volumes or go all in, save some money, and by getting the complete set you get the cool track sheet that does not come with each volume separately. Audience 8.2 - From tape source not LP, this recording has some tape hiss present, but it’s not overwhelming the music. Music sometimes seems a little muddy but then clears up a little then returns to a little muddy. It’s not bad though, it’s much better than most of the multi gen STP tour audience tapes out there.
