Soundboard 9.4 - This is a commercial grade soundboard recording. It is clean, professional, highly enjoyable – but I don’t know I kind of miss the atmospherics, the rush of the crowd, the occasional scream…call me an old fashioned kind of guy but sometimes the Stones are more appreciated when they are a bit…disheveled. Audience 9.2 - Continuing on with the never ending tour Dylan and company put on a great show this night in LA. When I saw them in Houston on this tour, being in a live hall (Houston Music Hall) and the loudness and everything else I was not aware how much GE Smith (yes, the guy with the 1001 goofy guitar faces) contributed. Really a great complimentary player. Audience 8.8/Soundboard 9.3 - Very good audience source for the Philly show, perhaps maybe just somewhat lacking in bottom end and of course it’s denser than the clean channel mix of a board tape or broadcast but for 1984, I don’t know I think it’s pretty good. The Cleveland Agora show is excellent quality. Audience 9.1 - I waited a long time to get to hear a very strong and clear audience tape of this line up. The wait is over! This rocks! Reading 1983 FM Broadcast 9.3 - I can’t say for sure if this was broadcast or not but it does sound like one of those recordings that ended up over the air. Why? I don’t know it just has that kind of feel to it, and for that reason this should get repeated plays because it’s simply excellent. Black Sabbath U.I.C. Audience 8.8/Audience 8.7 - Both recordings here (from the same taper) occurred on two different gigs at the same venue in the same year. Both are consistent, and good. The songs do duplicate but Rory has new material to offer at the second gig later in the year. Great set here! Audience 9.4 - If you can’t get into this rollicking, electric southern fried punk and roll then you aren’t alive. This kicks total ass! Great sound quality and great atmosphere combined with a band that was unfairly ignored by the media at a time when new music and new attitudes were flourishing. Audience 8.7 - It’s not necessarily a keeper but it is still a very good sounding tape that has maybe a touch more “atmosphere” than your used to. I could hear everything fine, although it isn’t the best in terms of instrument separation – it’s part and parcel sometimes when listening to audience recordings. I still can recommend this one, because it’s good enough that you won’t abandon it and it will sit nicely in your collection. Audience 9.4 - Superb capture! There’s nothing I would change about this tape, it’s got a wonderful electric vibe and strong depth that leaves you wanting more. Audience 9.6 - Superb clarity and separation of instruments while retaining a cool, honest live vibe which is what recording from an audience can produce so long as the gear being used is high quality and taper knows how to use it. Here, they do. Prince Paisley Park 3-28/29-2014 Disc 1 1. Why Come 2. Day In The Sun 3. My Family 4. North carolina 5. Share It With You 6. On The Way Up (inc. Love Machine) 7. Catch Me If U Can 8. Audience 9.1 - Atmospheric, where even if it may be recorded from somewhere in the middle, the immersive experience has been well captured. Vocals sound lush and full, and percussion is crisp and well defined with a nice, rounded bottom end holding it all down. This is a decent recording that allows the listener to imagine where they are sitting and how the event sounded, the actual P.A. sound. Audience 8.8 - The Zurich aftershow is decent enough for what had to be a packed club, so yeah it’s somewhat claustrophobic as you feel like you are squeezed between people and you are trying to bootleg the damn show ha ha! It’s good, it’s not great. The rest of the material is excellent quality from various source but all great. PRINCE The War Disc 1 Newpower Soul Tour Aftershow Kaufleuten, Zurich 24th August 1998 1. Audience 9.3 - A very good tape, with less of the perfect instrumental separation but more of the live power that can be delivered through good house P.A.’s, and as long as taper is not a complete moron and/or using radio shack circa 1985 gear, chances are you’ll end up with a nice recording…as this one is. Audience 9.4 - If the house itself sounds great, and your taping with high quality equipment (most likely a small digital unit with a good, dynamic mic and level control), then your result will be something like this. A lot of detail comes through, as does, from time to time, a rowdy audience – that adds to the atmosphere and thankfully never wrecks the audio recording. Prince Kaufleuten '93 Revisited Act II Tour Aftershow Kaufleuten, Zurich 30th August 1993 1. The Sacrifice Of Victor (intro) 2. Deuce And A Quarter 3. Black MF In The House 4. Race 5. Audience 9.5 - A sparkling, vivid recollection of a moment in time when an evening of progressive rock music was being performed by masters of the craft, and it was sublime. A recording that has wonderful atmosphere, solid and deep, showcasing both guitar and bass in a manner so that each are distinct yet blended perfectly. Audience 9.2 - A really nicely done tape, which of course anyone with a modern digital recorder and good mics “should” be able to accomplish in 2023.
