Audience 9.3 - One of those “must have” titles that is quite necessary for any serious Pink Floyd collector. While this recording is not perfect, it does have exceptional atmosphere and each instrument is distinct. The overall timbre of the recording is in the mid range, and sometimes at full volume there’s just a touch of overcrowding but there are what I call “the intangibles” of what makes a recording rate 9.0 or higher and this tape has them.

Audience 9.2 - A really quality recording for the time. Some audience chatter before songs, overall very respectful. Good atmosphere, heavy vibe, great performance. Hard to not want this one featured prominently in the collection. Sale!Audience 8.7 - This is a good and reasonably clear (some tape hiss) recording which reminds me a lot of the Hamburg 1971 recording. I would not be surprised if this was done by the same guys. As a bonus, there is a third disc containing the film footage of Atom Heart Mother from this show. It should be playable on most players, this disc is formatted as a video disc (compact disc containing an MP4 file), if you have any problems please let us know. It should play fine on your computer, and most DVD machines will know what to do with it.

Sale!Audience 9.1 - The last of a four night stand in Paris, and probably the best of the recordings made. Strong, clear, and a nice warm mid tone, although not as atmospheric, meaning taper must have been close (and knew how to operate the recording levels!).

Audiece 7.9 – 8.4 - During mellower passages the elegance of the sound comes through really nicely and you just sort of float along, but when the band gets cooking the old analog tape struggles and there’s some overcrowding of the bandwidth. That doesn’t mean it kills this show! This is a great experience and you will simply love this as you get totally sucked into the performance which is stellar.

NEW SOURCE Audience 8.7 This is a major upgrade to the previous version (see old review below for comparison) and as such we felt that it had to be offered here as a replacement. If you purchased the previous version (the artwork is untouched, only the music has been replaced in this set) than you are entitled to receive replacement discs without charge (pay postage cost only). Just reach out to us and we will take it from there. If you have never bought this title, than consider this one worthy of the collection. I will offer this caveat though - it is a recording that still shows its share of shortcomings, such as maybe a touch of overload during more bombastic passages (not nearly as bad as previous!), and the last track is incomplete (better an incomplete but listenable track than a totally un-listenable mess). OLD SOURCE Audience 7.2 This one is rather mediocre, although it is not “unlistenable” at all, but compared to other 1977 recordings it is what I would classify as “for completists only”. That being said, I can point out a few moments of this concert that I found interesting in a lot of ways. Like, during Pigs On The Wing Pt.1 you hear large explosions from the audience (possibly fireworks or maybe PA problem?) and you immediately think of Roger and how he’s probably disgusted with the whole thing by this time. Audience 8.8 - Once again, we are literally fighting it out in the rows with the fans but thankfully the music comes through it all in fine fashion, which is amazing in and of itself. Taper must have used pretty good hear to accomplish this feat – how to survive in the sweaty pits of hell and at the same time produce a very decent bootleg tape! Well, they did, so thank you taper for your efforts. Audience 8.8 - This came from a collection of tapes that were recorded by a couple who had the permission of the venue, so you would expect them to be done with more precision and care….but the story goes that they never listened to the finished results and therefore were unaware of the flaws in all of their efforts, mainly being signal overload. Now, this is where modern technology comes in to the equation – because after all these years we are able to notch out the offending frequencies and now the tapes sound VERY good! Listen to the difference, go back and find a pre-mastered version of this show and then listen to this one. It’s amazing, really amazing what a well trained ear can do for some of these old artifacts. This show also happens to be an inspired performance too, so win/win. Audience 9.2 - What immediately strikes you about this recording is that Rick Wright’s synth sounds and effects are NOT window dressing! In fact, they are almost overwhelmingly loud at times during the concert. Now, what I like most about old recordings is when they reveal something to me I never knew – in this case I did not know or appreciate how much Rick’s work, however consequential during the song, was not mixed out or down by any stretch but you might think that judging on the myriad hundreds of tapes that exist that do not give you a true appreciation of the volume. This tape is insistent, relentless, and thankfully clear and dynamic. The middle and upper midrange is sometimes almost too much but never does it distort.
