Audience 9.2 - I would have given this a higher rating but for some occasional volume fluctuations. Minus those, this is a "raise the hair on your back" type of recording. I can't explain it, some tapes just have it, this unquantifiable element, it's a lot to do with the band being recorded as much as it is in how they were recorded, and where exactly the taper sat, and what he used to record - so you take all that and factor it in to what is happening to you as you listen to an event that took place decades ago...that comes to life again and you are right there. As I listened to this, my neck hairs stood up. Audience 8.8 - A well made recording that does straddle the fence a bit. There's some narrowness in how well defined the extreme ends are in both low and high end, meaning your middle frequencies are spot-on, clear, and defined but when you get to the real high end it gets crinkly up there. It does not damage the listening experience but could if you really crank up the volume. The taper does some adjusting it seems, as the show progresses it sounds like the tonality, or levels...something changes slightly...I don't know what really happens but sometimes this show is dialed in and sounds really great and then just ever so slightly it gets less defined or maybe it is my imagination. Either way, this is a really decent recording. Audience 8.9 - This tape gets the nod for being a well-captured piece of music at a time when music was seeing significant change. One of those change bands, beginning in the 2nd half of the 70's, was Talking Heads and they remained at the forefront for quite a few years. This tape shows why...it's got a very realistic feel to it and the band sounds confident. Audience 9.4 - A killer tape with clear and direct sound as if you are right in front of the mains but no distortion or overload. Good balance too. Nice to hear this band live because the few other boots I've heard of them were really bad sounding. Audience 8.7 - Many fans of the band, especially those who seek out Lemmy period recordings, look to this one as being easily top 3. It is left here untouched, even though to my ears it could use a volume boost but that can be done on the listener's end so it's not a deal-breaker at all. The recording is notable for being clear, and easy to discern Lemmy's immense power bass lines. I'd never heard it prior, so to me it was a very welcome addition to the collection. Audience 9.5 - You can relax into this show, it's occupying a very pleasant space when the soundwaves wash over you and you begin to have a sense of the size of the venue, the space around you, and the distance from the stage. That's what I like about smaller venue recordings, and modern taping gear is getting so much better with the mic technology and level adjust that it's really hard to screw it up. Audience 9.2 - Here is another great Millard tape that gives you a clear picture of an event, capturing it not just with good gear in good location but allowing the atmosphere of the occasion to shine through as well. The show here is not complete, there was a problem halfway through Mysteries And Mayhem (too bad it started here as this song jams), and apparently three songs were not taped from that point. It resumes at Dust In The Wind and is complete the rest of the way. Radio Broadcast 8.8 - One thing that I really appreciate about this recording is how you can hear a real separation between bass and guitars. This is not typical of a heavy metal concert recording unless recorded and mixed for a specific purpose, such as a broadcast. So, while the sound itself might tend to be on the "brassier" side - it's not a knock...it's a way of trying to describe how there's plenty of bass but not necessarily in the form of that typical metal low end boomy sludge sound. Audience 8.8 - A functional capture, not like maybe the typical Prince stealth recording with the crisp highs and deep lows, punchy middle...this one is the stepchild I suppose where it has everything one step below it's vaunted siblings. Does that mean it is bad? Not at all, it's a fine recording that presents a VERY top form and funky Prince in his element...it's very good but not greatness and I am thankful to have it nonetheless. Soundboard 8.8 - This is a soundboard that is not without flaws, not serious flaws, but indeed somewhat noticeable ones. So, it’s one of those mixes where guitar sounds at times amazing, up front, and gloriously loud…and at others it seems like it was ran through an on-board processor of some kind and ends up more compressed and lower in the mix. Rock The Nation is cut at the tail end of Ronnie’s solo, and the drum intro for I Got The Fire begins, so that was a little bit of a jarring edit that could have been smoother. Audience 9.1 - What a find! This tape exudes raw power, and hearkens back to the original sound and style of the band much more so than what would be just a year and a half later. Does that mean it’s a raw blues rock show? No, but there is a lot of that here, and more than that it’s the TONE of the band. Gritty, mean, raw but tight…fierce!
