• Audience 8.7/8.8 - A little fluctuation but not much, mainly due to at times where the recording sounds a little further away probably due to taper hiding his gear. A very lively show, you can tell this is at a time when Prince mania was at a real high level (especially considering this was New Year's Eve!). • Soundboard 9.7 - One of the most interesting concerts by Prince I have heard. It’s an after show gig, and Prince is cutting loose with some amazing guitar solos, to the point where it is hard to believe it is actually him playing. Certainly one to add to your collection, and one that will get frequent plays.
  • Denver 1983 Soundboard 9.3 - Typical of the sharp and detailed board tapes from this tour.

Detroit 1983 Video source 8.6 - Possibly grabbed off a VHS or some other video source. I cannot confirm this 100% but my ears tell me that is the case here. It is a professional recording with a lot of issues concerning compression and noise – I say it is pro because of the location this is being recorded from which seems definite it is not from the audience.

Soundboard 9.5 - Of course it is immaculate. The way that Prince orchestrates his bands, the sound is so dialed in, I could not imagine a bad sounding Prince show. This is also a show with an amazing setlist, pretty much most of his more well known tunes.

  • Soundboard 9.4 - As always the performance is stellar, and even during the early 80’s Prince had a great sense of tone and did not plasticize his guitar sound. There are some tasty and snarling moments that make you think “what was the audience thinking during this solo?”  You know, the early 80’s typical Prince fan probably had no interest in fuzzed out Hendrix style soaring guitar solos mixed in with their pop/soul/funk music. • Soundboard 9.2 - This was a highlight year in a career full of many highlights. A new album (which although recorded in 2010 did not see official release until recently) that Prince obviously felt good about and his playing and professionalism here on full display is just amazing. • Audience 9.3 - A very good tape, with less of the perfect instrumental separation but more of the live power that can be delivered through good house P.A.’s, and as long as taper is not a complete moron and/or using radio shack circa 1985 gear, chances are you’ll end up with a nice recording…as this one is. Prince Neil S. Blaisdell Center Honolulu, HI. 16th February 1997 Disc 1 1. Intro 2. Jam Of The Year 3. Talkin' Loud And Sayin' Nothing 4. Instrumental Jam 5. Purple Rain 6. 17 Days 7. • Soundboard 8.8 - A solid early 80’s show, tape does show some slight signs of age in that it does not have a crystal clear sharpness as many have come to expect from Prince soundboards. Do not let that stop you though, like the rating indicates it is still a great board tape.
  • Audience 8.7 - A good tape, not one that Prince purists might visit often due to how many great soundboards there are but I’ll tell you what, I enjoyed this one. The quality evens out and reveals a tape that may not present a super clear soundfield but it does deliver plenty of realism and vibe. It’s “good enough” to be able to play all the way through and afterwards say “that was a good gig, glad someone recorded it”. Prince Special Invitation Concert Texas Southern University Houston, TX. January 16th, 1985 1. -Let's Go Crazy 2. -Delirious 3. -1999 4. -Little Red Corvette 5. -Take Me With U 6. -Free 7. -God 8. -When Doves Cry 9. -Baby I'm A Star 10. -Purple Rain
  • Studio Quality 9.7 - Here is Prince’s rookie card! It’s quite interesting to hear, a pretty well rounded set of recordings musically, with maybe that late 70’s dated sound (still red hot) but it’s hard to say if I heard it in 1977 would I have thought this artist would develop into such an immense talent. Husney Studios Rehearsal Room Minneapolis 1977 Tracks 1-8 all instrumentals
  • Audience 9.3 - A good, dynamic recording that deserves the high rating without question. The show is good, Prince sounds engaged and the band is on point. Prince Nude Tour Estadio Santa Maria del Mar, La Coruña 29th July 1990 Disc 1 1. DAT Intro 2. The Future 3. 1999 4. Housequake 5. Sexy Dancer 6. Kiss - Let's Jam It 7. Purple Rain 8. • Lakeland 1980 Soundboard 9.3 - So it’s the early 1980’s and I have to be honest but I would not have given Prince a chance. But, listening to these recordings today I hear real drums, crunchy guitars with an almost psychedelic tone, and confident rhythm section all belting out some decent funk and pop (although I don’t quite hear the precedent to superstardom). Interesting in hindsight. Columbia 1980 Soundboard 9.3 - Early period Prince already showing so much confidence on the live stage. Excellent sound! PRINCE 1980 Disc 1 Live at Civic Center Arena Lakeland, FL 8 March 1980 Line-up: Prince (vox, guitar) Bobby Z. (drums) André Cymone (bass) Dez Dickerson (guitar) Matt Fink (keyboards) Gayle Chapman (keyboards) 01. Boogie intro (instr.) incl. Jingle Bells (a.k.a. • Audience 9.1 - Crisp and clear, rowdy audience that thankfully do not intrude into the music that much. It is strange to hear it put this way, but the nature of these funky songs lends itself well to having a sort of background of people whooping it up. It works in this case to great effect. A really fine one to enjoy whenever you need your fix of his Royal Purpleness.
