Audience 9.3 - A very good tape, with less of the perfect instrumental separation but more of the live power that can be delivered through good house P.A.’s, and as long as taper is not a complete moron and/or using radio shack circa 1985 gear, chances are you’ll end up with a nice recording…as this one is. Soundboard 8.8 - A solid early 80’s show, tape does show some slight signs of age in that it does not have a crystal clear sharpness as many have come to expect from Prince soundboards. Do not let that stop you though, like the rating indicates it is still a great board tape. -
Audience 8.7 - A good tape, not one that Prince purists might visit often due to how many great soundboards there are but I’ll tell you what, I enjoyed this one. The quality evens out and reveals a tape that may not present a super clear soundfield but it does deliver plenty of realism and vibe. Studio Quality 9.7 - Here is Prince’s rookie card! It’s quite interesting to hear, a pretty well rounded set of recordings musically, with maybe that late 70’s dated sound (still red hot) but it’s hard to say if I heard it in 1977 would I have thought this artist would develop into such an immense talent. Lakeland 1980 Soundboard 9.3 - So it’s the early 1980’s and I have to be honest but I would not have given Prince a chance. But, listening to these recordings today I hear real drums, crunchy guitars with an almost psychedelic tone, and confident rhythm section all belting out some decent funk and pop (although I don’t quite hear the precedent to superstardom). Audience 9.1 - Crisp and clear, rowdy audience that thankfully do not intrude into the music that much. It is strange to hear it put this way, but the nature of these funky songs lends itself well to having a sort of background of people whooping it up. It works in this case to great effect. A really fine one to enjoy whenever you need your fix of his Royal Purpleness. -

Quality varies but does not dip into anything that might be considered sub par, mostly very good, and a good bit of this set I would consider to be excellent. Besides, it's Third Eye Girl and Prince demonstrated more guitar prowess on this tour than perhaps at any other time in his career, arguably. Audience 8.8/9.3 - So, you know how huge the O2 Arena is, right? Well it sounds like a huge arena, but aside from the large mega stadium ambience, this is not that bad at all. It’s what you call “immersive” because you really can imagine yourself there. The audio quality itself is very good, as far as the tonality and levels, etc. The “live mix” is typical of an event like this, tons of atmosphere, party vibe (with about 15,000 of your closest friends), and Prince as always delivering the goods. The after show audio is extremely well done, sounding quite intimate and very warm. Pro 9.5/Aud. 8.8/Aud.9.4 - The main attraction I would say is the Nokia 09 show which is fantastic audience tape with lots of brightness, atmosphere, and enough punch to really elevate the listening experience. The Disc 1 LA main set is also great, and of course the highlight for me being his flawless rendition of Spanish Castle Magic. The Tonight Show tracks are obviously pro recordings and are nice to have since it was so long ago who keeps up with it anymore? A great title for the collection!

Audience 8.7 - Is this the mother of Prince shows? It very well could be just that. A marathon to begin with, but even better, the band and Prince are in spectacular form as an audience that has waited some 19 years for Prince to return to their city literally explode as one hurricane caliber force. Perfect, intense, brilliant. Audio quality is VERY good too, some nice ambience and just enough of the crowd next to the taper to imagine yourself there at the show. Just a ton of fun listening to this, and missing Prince dearly.
