  • Lakeland 1980 Soundboard 9.3 - So it’s the early 1980’s and I have to be honest but I would not have given Prince a chance. But, listening to these recordings today I hear real drums, crunchy guitars with an almost psychedelic tone, and confident rhythm section all belting out some decent funk and pop (although I don’t quite hear the precedent to superstardom). Interesting in hindsight. Columbia 1980 Soundboard 9.3 - Early period Prince already showing so much confidence on the live stage. Excellent sound! • Audience 9.1 - Crisp and clear, rowdy audience that thankfully do not intrude into the music that much. It is strange to hear it put this way, but the nature of these funky songs lends itself well to having a sort of background of people whooping it up. It works in this case to great effect. A really fine one to enjoy whenever you need your fix of his Royal Purpleness.

Quality varies but does not dip into anything that might be considered sub par, mostly very good, and a good bit of this set I would consider to be excellent. Besides, it's Third Eye Girl and Prince demonstrated more guitar prowess on this tour than perhaps at any other time in his career, arguably. PRINCE – London (Earl’s Court) 1992 (2CD)

Original price was: $23.49.Current price is: $22.00.
Audience 9.4 - Soundboard that manages to include enough audience to make me think this was a total pro recording meant for something else besides being shelved.
  • Audience 8.8/9.3 - So, you know how huge the O2 Arena is, right? Well it sounds like a huge arena, but aside from the large mega stadium ambience, this is not that bad at all. It’s what you call “immersive” because you really can imagine yourself there. The audio quality itself is very good, as far as the tonality and levels, etc. The “live mix” is typical of an event like this, tons of atmosphere, party vibe (with about 15,000 of your closest friends), and Prince as always delivering the goods. The after show audio is extremely well done, sounding quite intimate and very warm. • Pro 9.5/Aud. 8.8/Aud.9.4 - The main attraction I would say is the Nokia 09 show which is fantastic audience tape with lots of brightness, atmosphere, and enough punch to really elevate the listening experience. The Disc 1 LA main set is also great, and of course the highlight for me being his flawless rendition of Spanish Castle Magic. The Tonight Show tracks are obviously pro recordings and are nice to have since it was so long ago who keeps up with it anymore? A great title for the collection!

  • Audience 8.7 - Is this the mother of Prince shows?  It very well could be just that. A marathon to begin with, but even better, the band and Prince are in spectacular form as an audience that has waited some 19 years for Prince to return to their city literally explode as one hurricane caliber force. Perfect, intense, brilliant. Audio quality is VERY good too, some nice ambience and just enough of the crowd next to the taper to imagine yourself there at the show. Just a ton of fun listening to this, and missing Prince dearly.
  • Soundboard 9.3 - There are moments in this recording that you swear it has to be one of Prince’s best ever – what got him so pumped up for this gig?  Maybe he was pumped for every gig but slightly more at certain gigs. I don’t know but this one got me pumped as well!  Love the energy and fluid playing.

  • Studio Quality 9.7 - Another fantastic collection of stuff Prince did in his studio and on air with disc 2 being the unreleased Milk and Honey album with Tamar.. What struck me about this particular set is right off the bat, the first track on disc one just blew me away. It’s an extended remix of Computer Blue with the sickest guitar, a real grinding, psychedelic and metallic tone that he squeezes to maximum effect and doesn’t want it to end. Neither did I!! • Audience 8.8 - A functional capture, not like maybe the typical Prince stealth recording with the crisp highs and deep lows, punchy middle...this one is the stepchild I suppose where it has everything one step below it's vaunted siblings. Does that mean it is bad? Not at all, it's a fine recording that presents a VERY top form and funky Prince in his element...it's very good but not greatness and I am thankful to have it nonetheless. • Audience 9.7 - Contrary to what you initially would have thought about Prince audience recordings, that the people there to see him aren’t exactly the type you would think would be overly concerned about getting an excellent capture…sure I am profiling here but it’s true - you expect this crowd is mainly there to bump and grind with each other and party like it’s 1999 or something. Now, I have to say after listening to many Prince audience recordings I come away as being impressed for the most part. This tape confirms what I now believe, that Prince bootleggers actually give a shit about the quality of the sound recordings they make. I LOVE the sound and feel of this tape…hands down I put this up against ANY soundboard you want to throw at me. This has ELECTRICITY and you don’t get that out of line recordings.
