• Audience 8.4 - This tape takes a song to find its sweet spot (relatively speaking), so I give full credit to the taper for having the sense to make sure he was going to get the best capture he could get. What I like about this is that it’s not a muddy mess, it is bright, it’s present, and I think a very worthwhile addition to the collection especially considering it’s from 1972 which was, arguably, one of the Stones’ best tours. • Private recording 8.7 - This is a cool piece of history, and the sound quality does not play that big of a role even though it is decent. It’s kind of loud, a little overloaded in spots, but just because it is raw, it doesn’t mean it ain’t great. I had this on vinyl decades ago and it was one of my favorite boots. It’s just a band, like any other (let’s pretend) jamming away in rehearsal. It’s just the coolest thing. The Rolling Stones '1968 Surrey Rehearsals' R.G. • Audience 8,4 - Somewhat distant, but not the kind of distant that means taper is in nose bleed section, it’s still pretty clear. Fidelity is decent, not a real “full” sound but I got everything including piano in this. There’s some hiss, in the background mostly while music is playing it’s not a bother. I think most fans are going to appreciate this tape, it’s good. The Rolling Stones - Mannheim, September 3. 1973 CD 1: 1. Intro 2. Brown Sugar 3. Bitch 4. Gimme Shelter 5. Happy 6. • FM Broadcast 9.5 - Even though this is excellent broadcast quality, there are some moments where the sound kind of briefly drops in level perhaps due to inconsistencies with the venue P.A. system (that is to say, the sound man has to quickly lower or raise the master volume on occasion) but it doesn’t hurt this show a bit. • Audience 7.8 - The venue had a pool in front of the stage, so it stands to reason audience taping had to be midway back making for a not so great sound quality although listenable (not distorted, not horribly muddled) and historic (a unique venue that played host to top tier artists in their prime).  The tapers sound like a couple of English gents speaking throughout the show in their proper English which makes for a fun commentary of the show…I mean, it’s half the fun of this recording! A neat little piece of rock history here. Not essential, but kinda neat. • Audience 8.3 - Distant, with a limited bandwidth that keeps the sound from really opening up wider. It’s not the worst of the tour, the music is listenable, in fact guitars ring out nicely but the vocals are too distant. You will need to turn up the volume on this, where it actually sounds better the louder it is (strange because you would think it would magnify the flaws but it helps in this case). • Audience + FM Interview 8.9 - The big question then is “if I already have the show, do I need this”?  Quick answer is “yes, kind of”. If you collect live shows because you want to experience that moment in time, then you want this. Firstly, it’s direct from original masters, as is the rare FM interview, it’s in the proper running sequence, and it edges the well circulated “Santa Monica” title by a smidgeon in terms of quality. It also presents a day in the life of the band, then still two years shy of releasing their world famous masterpiece and becoming obscenely wealthy and…different, or I should say “indifferent”. • Soundboard 9.6 - A New Years Eve gig in New Orleans, I mean, can you imagine the partying that went down?  Had to be legendary, and here’s a captured moment from that night with an artist who’s bringing it to the crowd, with a crack band (listen to the guitar leads!). • Audience 8.4 - This is a tape that fits the Stones image, it’s rough, raw, and loaded with chaotic energy. It has flaws, but it recovers and gets back onto your good side. You will get used to the screaming chick, thankfully her howls are spread out. Try not to get too wrapped up into the occasional drop out or glitch because you can really get sucked into this concert if you let yourself. Madison Square Garden New York, June 24th, 1975 Disc 1

  • French Radio Broadcast 8.4 - The recording does not sound what you would expect a broadcast to be, it sounds like an audience recording honestly. Then, you have to listen past the announcer comments (in French) between songs, and sometimes chiming in at the end, and beginning of the next song. Annoying, but I guess a small price to pay for having the priceless recordings of classic live Rolling Stones of this early vintage. I did notice the quality to be much better than the way I remember it being when these this first surfaced. • Audience 7.9 - A somewhat average recording, but collectors will want this for the inclusion of Childhood’s End in the set list. Also it should be noted the lack of 1973 tour recordings compared to the other years. • Soundboard 9.0 - This recording, to me, sounds like it was in a television studio for a live audience. I can’t tell for sure, but it is the way the audience reacts and the type of reverb going on. Either way, it’s a good recording, first couple of tracks a little hissy but it clears up considerably. • Audience 8.8 - A nice surprise this one – I was much more familiar with a tape from a later show during this run, but this one sounds lively and clear as a bell. It has a great live atmosphere which for me is a huge plus, so long as it is not boomy or has too much big hall “verb” and this one has the perfect amount of everything good. Lovely!
