Audience 8.5 - Here is perhaps one of the best captures from the tour (not quite as good as Oakland or LA but this tape has some real power). This recording seems to be rather close to the PA, but there’s no distortion. Tape is not overly wide ranging from high to low but there’s plenty of meat and a good amount of dynamics nonetheless. Certainly this is one to get. Audience 8.7 - This tape, when it first surfaced, was to many Kinks collectors the Holy Grail of live tapes. It marked the band’s triumphant return to the States, and the band was determined to make up for lost time. A fiery performance and a great capture. A tiny bit of tape chatter in the first track but it smooths out from there and is a real rocket ride! Soundboard 8.6 - This sounds VERY 80’s, I mean, it sounds pretty dated…but good quality. I guess they were not too bad, kind of simplistic maybe in a Twisted Sister kind of way, but the guitarist pulls out some tasty solos. Audience 8.4 - What saves the recording is the fact that it is clear, like virtually no muddiness, although the sound mix itself lacks definition except for Steven and Joe who are like rays of light peering through your window. The drums are good too, all in all it is hard to say this is not a necessity, it may not be but it’s very interesting and certainly of good enough quality to keep you engaged. A decidedly heavy approach this time, but it seems odd that the audience embraced this yet boo’d Stevie Ray Vaughan mercilessly only a few short years later. Audience 8.5 - A pretty clear but somewhat distant tape, with Ozzy being front and center followed by Randy and then some tin can drums and little to no real bottom end – but you do hear the notes played which makes this one to investigate as it is not very well known about. As I listen, I think the selling point is indeed how relatively clean and clear it is, a good capture all in all. Drums get a little better… the bottom end remains thin though. It’s not the greatest live mix or sound, but it’s a tape that delivers real magic despite itself. The Mick’s (both of ‘em) are the highlight, both are more prominent and both are on top of their game. Audience 8.7 - Almost every recording from this venue sounds like a large, cavernous venue no matter where the taper is sitting. Thankfully this one is not as much, and the music is just that much more immediate and clear, so for this venue I would say this tape shines.
