• Winterland 73 Audience 8.7 - A huge sounding recording that also features as an exciting part of the show the rapturous applause by an adoring audience after each song. The music is very lively and upbeat, the sound is very good, a lot of atmosphere. Los Angeles 77 Audience 9.8 - Spectacular in every way, these shows could easily be officially released and everyone would buy it. Just lovely, warm, immediate, almost flawless.

  • Audience 9.1 - Nothing to complain about here, the bass is clear and not boomy, guitars maybe not as up front and defined as you would prefer (the benefit of a soundboard tape) but it's present and fine for all intents and purposes. A good show, and good atmosphere - my verdict is that this would be a fine representation of the tour if you were to turn on a person not familiar with the band.

  • Cleveland 1978 SDBRD 9.7 - Great sound! Perfectly mixed, good live atmosphere (even though it is a board tape, the microphones do pick up the ambience). Cleveland 1980 SDBRD 9.3 - A very bright (almost too bright) recording, and it would have been a tragedy if this did not have anything else going but it does - it's got good guts, and yes even low end although it could use a touch more beefiness. Still, this is one hot sounding show, sure to please even the most jaded collector.

  • All Soundboard 9.2 to 9.6 - This is a great collection for the Santana enthusiast, but also for the casual fan. The sound is consistently great across all discs, with only minor tonality differences (such as a slightly brighter tone on the New Orleans portion of disc 2). There is a enough track difference to keep things from being overly repetitious.

  • Hoffman Estates - Audience 8.7 - Residing mainly in the mid and upper mid range this recording does not showcase any real definition in the highs, and the metal loudness defined as a solid guitar/bass attack for the low end. What you end up with here with these two recordings is something of historical value but nothing you would use to impress your buddies with. Are they essential for the collection? Yes, both of these shows are very significant in value and because they are not horrible recordings I can recommend them.

Chicago - Audience 8.8 - This recording has a softer mid-range making it a little more comfortable, but still does not have a clarity and distinction to it, but it is also not muddy, it's just a capture that was made with equipment that had only the capability to document a live event, it wasn't made to do a professional live recording so keep that in mind - pretty decent but not great. I will say this, and I sincerely believe this - I think this recording is exactly what your ears would have been hearing at this show. That is why I think these recordings are important, even if they lack soundboard clarity and are not A+ audience tapes. There's plenty to enjoy here with both of these shows.

  • 1970 - Audience 9.1 - Excellent! Very clear, pretty close, respectful audience, good acoustics, great instrument separation...it's all here for your ears to feast upon. 1972 - Pro SDBRD 9.7 - Amazing of course, it's a professional recording that was released on video but I think this is not taken from a video source as it is totally uncompressed. 1973 - Audience 9.0 - A choice recording as it has a really driving energy. This is not one of those Traffic shows that gets bogged down, it's high energy, loud, and thankfully captured very nicely.

  • Soundboard 8.8 - A strong and clear tape with a mix that heavily favors drums and bass. That gives it a massive, sledgehammer to the skull sound - which can't be bad.

  • Audience 2 Source Matrix 9.2 - The best part here is how awesome the bass and drums sound together - so massive yet enough detail to separate them nicely. Guitars and vocals occupy essentially the same space in the mix, neither rising high enough to hog the bandwidth. So, all in all I think this matrix gives us the best possible audio of this show and that is a really good thing!

  • OK City - Soundboard 9.6 - Excellent from the start, with a great tonal quality that brings out tremendous detail in the guitar. This board tape manages to not sound like a "bored" tape! New York - Soundboard 9.4 - A more toned down, warmer sound than the OKC, this board tape focuses on the band as a whole. The sound is full, rich, and inviting which presents the listener a choice: do you like the more "live" sound or do you prefer an almost "studio" like quality in a live recording? I would opt for a healthy combination of both I suppose.

  • Audience 8.8 - It's kind of a good thing that this concert is performed acoustically because the way this taper captured it I can't imagine an electric guitar, bass, and drums with the massive volume it would have been. That is because this sounds like taper was very close, and the hall acoustics are very "live", so, in essence because it is acoustic it isn't a loud, distorted mess...but could easily have been if this was any louder or closer to the stage. It's just at the breaking point volume wise, and there's the slightest touch of distortion affecting one frequency somewhere in the upper mid-range, this came close to being a problem but is thankfully kept at bay and never rose above the level of "minor annoyance" so all-in-all this becomes quite a keepsake memory for fans as it is a highly unusual type of gig.
