• Soundboard 8.8 - A strong and clear tape with a mix that heavily favors drums and bass. That gives it a massive, sledgehammer to the skull sound - which can't be bad.

  • Soundboard 8.9 - Man, this is just amazing. It sounds a little dated, maybe a little faded, but definitely NOT jaded! The live sound mix isn't perfect here, I think guitars should be louder (but at least in this board I can hear every note of the bass) but in defense of the guitars I can hear both of them somewhat distinctly. Vocals do suffer, they are pushed well back of the mix, at times they get closer to the right spot, but it's all good they are there but just not at the center of the mix. I think this is classic stuff. Slayer Country Club Reseda, LA, CA. September 7th 1985 Hell Awaits Tour 1. Hell Awaits 2. Aggressive Perfector 3. Captor Of Sin 4. The Final Command 5. • Soundboard 8.8 - This is the one the fans have all been waiting for. There are a lot of recordings out there from this period but NONE sound like this! Ferocious! The drums are frightening, vocals up front and scary AF. Midrange is a little busy, but it all sounds so much better than what I am used to listening to, and you know the reality is that unless you are listening to a board tape, this band is damn hard to listen to just because of the cacophony they generate on stage. So, the consensus here is that this has to be considered as a MUST have. SLAYER Blue Moon Oberhausen, Germany 20th June 1985 1. Introduction 2. Hell Awaits 3. Aggressive Perfector 4. Captor of Sin 5. • Soundboard 8.7 - What we have here with these two shows are a couple of primitive soundboards, and by that I mean they may have run the sound through the board but what ended up on the tape is NOT what you would expect. It's not a manicured, expert mix and pristine sound, it's a very raw, brutal, loud, obnoxious, hellish, and violent turbulence of sound that somehow fits the vibe to a tee. This is Slayer, in 1985, and it sounds like it. Wonderful in its rawness, brutal in its aggressive sonic assault, and 100% vintage Slayer.

  • Audience 7.9 - Not the best sound mix here, and it kind of blasts through your speakers, but it’s rollicking good fun mate!
  • Soundboard 9.7 - Both as good as it gets. Pro all the way.…a must have!
  • Audience 7.2–8.2 - What you get here is a very raucous sounding tape because when the band is at full volume the recorder can’t deal with it so there’s some clutter and slight high end break up, but when the band is more low key, such as a straight blues number, it’s wonderful. The music? Off the hook jamming!
  • Audience 8.7 - Actually not bad but it’s very close to the main PA and thus loud and noisy. There’s an annoying frequency somewhere between the mid and high that needs to be compressed. At first I thought this was a soundboard, it might be mistaken for one. It’s so close to the speakers, I mean this recording puts you in the front row. I do like it despite my concerns.

  • Shotgun were a 1970s rock band from Dallas. The band consisted of Guy Houston on drums, Hugh Coleman on bass, John Michael Soria on lead guitar, Russ Skarsten on keyboards, and Billy Metcalf on lead vocals.  The band's 1976 album, recorded but never released, Dallasian Rock was remastered and reissued by ShroomAngel Records, in 2014. Reviewing the album for seaoftranquility.org, Pete Pardo awarded the album five stars and said: "This is incredible material that should have been huge back in the day, and the amazing thing is it still sounds fresh and exciting here in 2014. The ShroomAngel team have done a wonderful job on the remastering, so be prepared for a killer listening experience."
  • Audience 9.0 - A great recording that certainly gives you a good idea of what the ambience of the LA Forum was during that time period for an opening act!  So, to be clear, it’s a somewhat sedate audience that allows you to hear pretty much every nuance. • Audience 8.4 - Not too bad, but not the perfect live mix. Still, seems like a somewhat professional recording or attempt was made here, as if the tapers set up a reel to reel with decent mics and perhaps their placement just wasn’t the best.
  • SDBRD/AUD Disc 1 SDBRD 9.2 excellent material that features some later (’78) performances but seems mostly to be 1974. Unfortunately the tapes were not adequately annotated. Disc 2 Audience 8.8 A very decent tape that has a great live energy to it. I almost prefer this over the board tape, it just captures more of the mania happening on stage at a SAHB concert.  Disc 3 Audience 8.5 The recording seems to emanate from a more distant point from the stage and as such lacks the power and punch your ears crave, but it is not a muddy recording, you can hear the band well enough, just not much in the way of dynamics or power. • Soundboard 8.8 - Not your typical board tape here, in fact I hesitate to even call it one because to me it sounds like a stage recording. Either way, it is decent but not great. What is great, however, is this period of the band and this performance is indicative of that peak they attained. Marvelous playing throughout – and like I said the sound quality is decent and enjoyable but I expected more from a professional recording.

  • CD 1 - Soundboard 8.6 - Sounds very low gen but the tape seems somewhat compressed, but very clean, and thankfully can be turned up loud without breaking up. CD 2 - Soundboard 8.6 - A lot like disc one, occasional phasing on one or two tracks, but again it is pretty clean and a mix that reveals how good each player is in this band. CD 3 - Soundboard 8.4 - A step down from the first couple of discs but it has a little more brightness to it, and a little more noise and a strange sort of echo on the guitar which does not bother me, it is just different than the other discs. All in all, collectors will find much to like here.
  • Soundboard 9.9 - As good as it gets, rather .01 away from being as good as it can get.
  • Minden 1973 Audience 8.8 - One of the earliest concert recordings ever sourced! It sounds very good, decent equipment used, and maybe placed a little back in the club but otherwise it’s a lot better than it has a right to be. The band certainly evolved quite a bit from these early club days, but the character of the band never did. Fascinating document! Minden 1974 Audience 9.4 - What a difference a year makes, as the band return to the same club a year later and wreck the place!  Extremely tasty, the recording does the band justice as it literally just leaps out of the speakers with maximum ferocity while retaining enough detail and depth to let you sit and listen in total awe. • Soundboard 9.6 - Not only is this a smoking hot board mix but also a killer performance! The band is on point, great dual guitar harmonies and discernible vocals. • Audience 8.7 - A VERY powerful recorded sound coming out at you like a hurricane. Thankfully this tape holds together, although it sounds like it’s going to tear apart any second – it’s quite a frantic recording if I can describe it that way.  You are like placed in front of the mains, and surprisingly you can hear everybody, especially Klaus who sounds BRILLIANT as does the entire band. • Radio Broadcast 8.8 - One thing that I really appreciate about this recording is how you can hear a real separation between bass and guitars. This is not typical of a heavy metal concert recording unless recorded and mixed for a specific purpose, such as a broadcast. So, while the sound itself might tend to be on the "brassier" side - it's not a knock...it's a way of trying to describe how there's plenty of bass but not necessarily in the form of that typical metal low end boomy sludge sound. It's got definition and I like that.

  • Soundboard 9.7 - All excellent, all must haves imho. What you get sound-wise is a rich, deep tone, the Berlin tape in particular which features emphasis on the bass which is massive but detailed. The music here is more progressive than Samba, and Carlos does sometimes resort to familiar guitar runs but he also flashes a lot of other tricks and convinces the listener that he’s not a one-trick pony at all. Best I can tell here is that Devadip Ochestra is a decent attempt to take what Mahavishnu Orchestra did and accent it in different ways. Well done Carlos!

  • All Soundboard 9.2 to 9.6 - This is a great collection for the Santana enthusiast, but also for the casual fan. The sound is consistently great across all discs, with only minor tonality differences (such as a slightly brighter tone on the New Orleans portion of disc 2). There is a enough track difference to keep things from being overly repetitious.
