Hard rock group from Houston active during the mid 70's and were primarily known as a covers band, playing many of the well known clubs in town. They recorded a handful of original songs in 1975, and disbanded following some unfortunate incidents while on the road. A single 7" record was released, however, and gained enough traction that rhythm guitarist Jimmy Lee Dean decided to continue on and recruit new members (the era known as Jeremiah MK II). This version of the band recorded a full length LP which never saw the light of day as the manager absconded with the master reels soon after the sessions, and nobody heard from him since. Eventually, we rediscovered these masters and attempted to transfer them in the studio but the tapes had severely degraded, the material, such as it is, is also contained on this collection. A 40th Anniversary reunion concert occurred in 2014, and excerpts from that show are included on the 2nd disc. All known recordings of this band are included in this package. -
Audience 8.7 - This is a very bright and clear recording from close to the stage. Loads of electrifying atmosphere – you literally are planted right in between the tapers close to the stage and you really sense that. -

Audience 8.7 - This could also get a few tenths of a point up for the careful re-mastering that recently was applied to the old tape. It definitely needed a refresh, and it got one and it is way the better for it. The highlight for me is that Randy's guitar is the clearest instrument, followed by Ozzy and the others all decently placed in the soundfield with the only knock being the overall clarity and dynamics. That being said, this is a great recording for the time period, knowing how precious few great sounding Blizzard tour tapes there are. I have to rank this in the top 5 I think, because the guitar is so good (you get the tone, and a great sense of the spirit of the room and the band). Audience 8.8 - I give this recording high marks for being one of the good ones, and you know how important any live recording with Randy Rhoades is so instantly when you hear this, and your ears go "wow, cool", well that means we have something special. Now, it does take a song or so to get balanced, maybe that is the taper and maybe that is the house, either way it is typical of an old audience tape to start a little rough but settle in as it goes. I am not saying this is super-duper, but when you have at least a very listenable tape, where you can clearly hear Randy and Ozzy, maybe a tiny bit of overload here but it doesn't matter - my ears don't lie and I felt this one delivered the goods. Great live performance from Dokken! The Audio came to us from an unknown source and it seems to be a soundboard recording, although the audience noise is loud and clear too, so we have our doubt! It does not sound bad, by any means, but we can’t assure you it is a sound board recording as we usually do. -

Audience 8.7 - This is a decent tape that delivers some sense of the venue and the power of the band in a live setting, it's not "relaxed" sounding but definitely hard rock music at volume...but that being said there is some slight harmonic distortion somewhere in the upper mid band range, and if you had to choose where your live recording suffered, it would be here because it doesn't do as much damage to the sound taken as a whole as you might suppose. It's still a really good recording...with limitations. Audience 8.8 - A rather good tape, it's kind of rare to find something like this just because of the extreme volume and what not that metal presents to taping gear - but this one shines. Sometimes the rhythm guitar seems to drop out a little in the mix, every now and then but that might be a PA or mix thing. Audience 8.4 - This is not hi-fi by any stretch, but what it represents is a rollicking good time as only this band was capable of doing. In the mix is mostly Ron Wood and Rod Stewart, with a overdriving bass backbone that forces the intensity of the sound volume. It's a full bodied tape, no bones about it. With modern mastering tools, it has been brought under control...somewhat. Hey, I have heard MUCH worse than this, and once the ears settle in to it, what you have is a recording that delivers the fun and electricity of The Faces. Soundboard 9.1 - A somewhat dated sounding tape (a touch of hiss, and a very slight amount of distortion on the cymbals during at least the first 20 minutes as the soundman dials it in) but it is a treat to hear these songs in such good quality. My review is subjective, I think it's a fine recording but I have to nitpick seeing as there's a very steady supply of Santana soundboards. Glasgow - Audience 8.7 - A great tape to hear the very beginnings of Ozzy's solo career. and the brilliance of Randy Rhoads. Clear, and decent separation of instruments. Newcastle - Audience 8.5 - Slightly muddy but it has the bones of a good tape recording. I feel like if this old tape was re-mastered with AI tools it would shine. Nothing is buried beyond salvation here, in fact I would say if you just keep listening your ears adjust to the sound and it gets better and better. Thankfully guitars are distinct, vocals too, it is really the bottom end that is a bit diffuse and rumbly. Soundboard 8.8 - This is the one the fans have all been waiting for. There are a lot of recordings out there from this period but NONE sound like this! Ferocious! The drums are frightening, vocals up front and scary AF. Midrange is a little busy, but it all sounds so much better than what I am used to listening to, and you know the reality is that unless you are listening to a board tape, this band is damn hard to listen to just because of the cacophony they generate on stage. Released by the reformed band in 2013 in a very limited run on CD-R, this is actually that same title re-worked. The audio is the same but the package is expanded, the original was a very simple, black and white 4 panel sheet with nothing printed inside and the disc placed in without any protection. It was a CD-R burn in fact, and basically my understanding was it wasn't even sold but handed out to people, family, friends, fans, etc. Not even sure how many they made, probably less than 1,000 for sure. Audience 8.7 - This is a GREAT 8.7, and what I mean is that while technically speaking the sonics are not ideal, the entirety of this recording is GREAT! It has a feel to it, it captures a moment in a highly tangible way, from the feeling of being in the pit, to the sense of time and space, and the "in your face" nature of the audio itself. All in all I really enjoyed this for what it is and it is something I can definitely recommend highly. Audience 8.8 - The sound of this recording owes almost all of its characteristics to the house PA sound. What I mean is this: The recorder very accurately captured exactly what this gig sounded like, and so if there is any particular thing that is not as good as it could be, we need to talk to the sound man. This tape captures this show in excellent quality, I would say the rating reflects more what the sound itself actually was like at this show - not great (for me I just did not love the drum sounds, and thought the guitars could be louder) but really very good. I think it is a matter of preference then, because some people might really like the way this show sounds coming out of the main PA system. Audience 8.8 - A pretty decent recording which might be a touch on the thin side as the deepness of bass is lacking, but still enough meat on the bones to be worthy of the collection. Vocals come through clearly, drums do sound good too and the overall sound mix is very even. Audience 9.4 - This is a band that has attained the kind of status that warrants a serious examination of their live "bootleg" catalog. In particular, I think the years 1987 to 1992 are the important years, and any tapes that are listenable are considered collectible but the ones that are excellent, as this one is, should be sought out. Why? Because Guns 'N Roses was more than the sum of their parts, and the music that happened on stage more often than not seemed to hold that most elusive quality - Magic. Studio Quality 8.6-9.5 - I was not expecting this to be anywhere near this good. I kinda just assumed it would be a collection of 4th gen cassette tape garbled noise. It's far from noisy and garbled, it's actually DAMN good! Maybe two or three tracks out of the lot are a bit less clear and dynamic, but those are the minority here. All in all, this set rocks! Soundboard 9.4 - Clear and bold (especially percussion) capturing a very fine creative period of the band (the dual guitar with Neal Schon being especially notable). I did notice a slight amount of distortion in the lower frequencies but it's barely noticeable. London Audience 8.7 - A decent recording that remains consistent throughout. Everything comes through, albeit not with a lot of detailed anything, just good overall clarity and decent mix. I would commend the taper because I know he had to have battled with the Hammersmith Odeon acoustics, loud audience, louder band, and consumer grade gear and yet still managed a good capture. Brussels Audience 8.9 - This is a strong recording and finds the band performing at a very high level. Good sound balance, and though you get a sense of the sheer volume, it does not stress the tape. Audience 2 Source Matrix 9.2 - The best part here is how awesome the bass and drums sound together - so massive yet enough detail to separate them nicely. Guitars and vocals occupy essentially the same space in the mix, neither rising high enough to hog the bandwidth. So, all in all I think this matrix gives us the best possible audio of this show and that is a really good thing!

Audience 8.7 - A recording that, while it does not open up to reveal a heck of a lot of depth, it is clear and present, with thump and some big arena bombast. The vocals do not appear up front in the mix, and low end is not highly defined although very present in a "feel" sense, the entirety of the sound can be roundly enjoyed though, as the relative clarity and presence of the band give this old tape credibility in the collector world. Audience 8.7 - Sometimes a recording that may not be rated in the 9's might be passed over out of hand by picky collectors. That would be a huge mistake in this case. These are both unbelievably cool in a variety of ways - and the sound quality is not even an issue. The audio is fine for a super loud British metal band that comes to Texas and plays smallish venues - you can hear everything clearly. I would say that you might not get the wide spectrum, the sound is going to be focused on the middle range of instruments which gives you good guitar/vocal action at the expense of maybe the kick drum, and definition of bass, so who cares? It's not a deal-breaker at all because once you start listening you soon realize how kick ass these shows are. This is the stuff man! NOTE: Both of these shows have different dates than the single CD releases found on this site. You won't be duplicating anything, they are different dates for both the San Antonio and Kileen gigs. FM Broadcast 9.2 - Even though this is a broadcast, it retains a "rough" mix quality to it which suits the band's sound and style. The recording quality is fantastic, it does not have a lifeless feel but rather an obvious impromptu feel as you can tell by the stage feedback as the mix gets dialed in.
