FM Broadcast 9.5 - This is kind of like the Red Bull of rock in the mid 80’s. In hindsight, you could say it was cool that even when these guys had some very anthemic rock numbers (and some with cheesy lyrics), they at least had a heavier approach to the music. The sound quality is excellent here and it seems to me if you have any interest in mid 80’s hard rock/aor/metal, this band would be and should be on your radar and then by extension you would seek out something like this FM broadcast. Soundboard 9.6 - I was unfamiliar with this band, so listening to this stuff was a real eye (and ear) opener for me. They are quite good! The sound quality is excellent as is the mix. Soundboard and TV 9.3/8.8 - The first two discs are by and large excellent and clear but the last disc is more subdued, still soundboard but the source has aged more and the signal is less bright. Great to listen to, all three discs have a lot to offer. Audience 8.5 - A little dark tone here, and some lack of clarity but not the kind you normally associate with an audience tape (especially one recorded in this notoriously cavernous sounding hall). Audience 8.6 - This is a very good recording where all I can say is I wanted more guitar…but Bonzo is furious and drums sound heavy, bass is POUNDING without booming, and Plant rides it all with a reasonably clear and present vocal that kind of seems like it’s floating like cream above the sound. All in all I have to say this is pretty righteous for a 1972 aud. tape. Recommended! Audience 9.2 - This is a very well done Audience recording from very close to the stage. The music is clear and bright, and the mix of all instruments is really great too. I particularly think the drums sound very real, percussive, and just drive this performance in a very non “laid back” sort of way. Guitar has a lively tone, and as a bonus you get a finally that features Carlos Santana. Soundboard 9.6 - So, not every show of the ’74 tour was a train wreck and this should be proof of that. Sure, Clapton occasionally blurts stuff out, sometimes during a song, but performance-wise this is stellar. Sound quality is near perfect. Soundboard 9.5 - This is a brilliant recording, razor sharp and electric at a time when most music was becoming rather lame. Not saying Pat Benatar did not have her share of radio friendly numbers, but even those featured good, solid rock guitar that did not resemble anything else offered by mainstream top 40 at that time (aside for maybe The Cars and Foreigner…and Cheap Trick). Soundboard 9.4 - As always the performance is stellar, and even during the early 80’s Prince had a great sense of tone and did not plasticize his guitar sound. There are some tasty and snarling moments that make you think “what was the audience thinking during this solo?” You know, the early 80’s typical Prince fan probably had no interest in fuzzed out Hendrix style soaring guitar solos mixed in with their pop/soul/funk music. Radio Broadcast 8.9 - Two different sources were used to make one complete broadcast and as such there is slight audio change throughout, but all is good because it is all very good! Audience 8.4 - Not a bad stadium recording that has a huge atmosphere and consequently not the best definition, although Roger soars high above with his articulate vocals. Bass is the underlying foundation of this recording…probably worth getting as it does seem to edge out a large portion of Euro ’70 tour tapes.
