  • Audience 8.4 - This is a classic example of the modern benefits of collecting music in the 21st Century: A tape that a decade ago would have been considered for completists only is now, after careful re-mastering. a worthwhile listen.  In comparing the original version, I find this one raises the rating a full half point at least. • Audience 9.1 - Recorded with equipment that sounds like it was well beyond the standard consumer grade stuff. Nice and warm, capturing the band close, with some nice detail, and the atmosphere is palpable. I mean, quite literally this recording is a time machine – you seem to be physically transported to 1974, to this small venue in Boston (actually Cambridge, a suburb of Boston). Very nice! • Audience 9.0 - This is a very fine recording no doubt about it, although there is some kind of audio artifact present at the extreme high almost like it might be from the main microphone (stage mic). So, I don’t think it is the tape, or taper’s gear. At first you may think it is almost like a noise reduction artifact but it is not that which you will agree when you hear the electric guitars. That’s probably the only thing you can knock this for, but even that is rather minor, the music is very present, great live mix too. • Audience 8.7 - This is a very good recording that only needs more definition in the highs, but I still think this has to rank high in the pantheon of 1971 audience tapes. It’s a show that seems to invoke an almost reverential vibe in the audience, as they are quiet and respectful throughout but show bursts of appreciate at song endings. A good one, in many respects. • Audience 8.6 - Surprisingly decent, it’s got some “rattle and bones” but overall it is highly listenable with a good timbre to it. Anything from this period is welcome, and this old tape has not only survived the decades intact but delivers on the enjoyment meter considerably. The bonus tracks vary but are generally pretty good quality with the tell-tale sound of vinyl ever present throughout. No attempt was made to clean it up, this is due to the sensitive nature of the high end on these recordings, it would seem any real noise reduction or cleaning would compromise that. • Soundboard 8.8 - This tape exhibits some compression characteristics but is overall clear enough to enjoy. It doesn’t favor any one particular frequency, and does not have a large amount of bottom end. The sound resides mostly in the mid range, but it suits this style of music and that is why I found it to be just fine. Aerosmith 19840831 Oakland, CA The Coliseum Disc 1 01. • Audience 9.3 - Again, we discover that yes some people do really know how to use stealth recording gear to great effect.  Lovely balance, warm, in the pocket and thankfully so because this tour was perhaps him at his peak. That is not to say he does not perform well now, it is just that this tour seems to have them so up and enthusiastic almost every show, with great special guests and great set lists. • Audience 9.5 - Listening to this recording made me think for a second I was listening to classic Gabriel era sans Peter Gabriel (he’s backstage nursing cold) ha ha!  What I mean is, the performance and setlist is reminiscent of an earlier time because the band seem to be playing the songs as if for the first time. It’s just great to hear – and the sound quality is top shelf. • Audience 8.7 - So this is one that fell below the radar but absolutely must be considered by any Crue fan to be one of the best of the best…and technically speaking it should not be. It’s not a board tape, it’s not even the best audience tape out there – but it is one of the best from this tour AND it just friggin’ smokes as far as performance goes. It’s one of the best played shows I have ever heard by them. The atmosphere is electric, the band is feeding off it, and they just deliver one hell of a performance. The tape captures the evening quite well, and you really feel as if you are there. I love that, I want the tape to be clear and I like some dynamics but I also really like a good atmosphere – this just delivers man. • Soundboard 9.4 When you listen critically, you will discover that this was a great tour. Most of the time the band was on point, fiery, gritty, dirty, sort of like they were in 1978 maybe, which is what you want The Stones to be like. The playing in particular on this show is fantastic, and the mix allows you to get everything in great detail. Certainly this is one to have in the collection.
