• Audience 9.4 - I really found this to be a real gem. First, I think it starts with a respectful but enthusiastic Japananese audience and then because of the immaculate source tape. The recording, while maybe light on bottom end just a touch, is crisp and clean and features a flawless midrange. Drums have an extremely "live" feel, you almost just kind of look off to your left and right to make sure a drummer isn't there in your living room!

  • Soundboard 9.3 - A good solid board but more importantly it’s a stand out show. I would say, and I’ve listened to quite a few, this is one of the best. • Soundboard 8.8 - A little bit thin, but it’s clear and of course the guitar is really captured well.  Vocals are sometimes in the background here, not that it matters because the all important guitar work is so present you will be more focused on it instead. It is a pretty good performance, it was a good night. I can’t complain about this one, I think it will be appreciated by people even those with only a passing interest in Clapton. • Soundboard 9.6 - So, not every show of the ’74 tour was a train wreck and this should be proof of that. Sure, Clapton occasionally blurts stuff out, sometimes during a song, but performance-wise this is stellar. Sound quality is near perfect. • Audience 9.2 - This is a very well done Audience recording from very close to the stage. The music is clear and bright, and the mix of all instruments is really great too. I particularly think the drums sound very real, percussive, and just drive this performance in a very non “laid back” sort of way. Guitar has a lively tone, and as a bonus you get a finally that features Carlos Santana. • Studio Quality 9.5 - I am thankful for this because it has further taught me to appreciate and respect Clapton’s musicality, and his desire to remain true to himself first and foremost. If you listen to this music without preconditions you realize it’s pretty good and if the man’s name was not Eric Clapton, you’d be thinking this guy should be much bigger. • Audience 8.8 - This show, while not the soundboard you expect since there’s so many from this tour, is a real charmer regardless. I am not trying to sell you on this, this just captivated me and by the end of the show I felt like I somehow knew Eric personally a little tiny bit. The audio is pretty good, let’s just say I listened all the way through because this tape and Eric’s delivery kind of pulled me in. Eric Clapton Madison Square Garden New York City NY. • Audience 9.1 - Some tape hiss present, but you won’t notice when the music is playing because it sounds so good. High quality gear was used to capture this show; that is obvious to these ears. • Audience 9.4 - Before you write off the late 80’s Eric Clapton, you REALLY need to look deeper for a minute. This performance, and this recording, clearly demonstrates the reason why one should examine the totality of an artist’s career, particularly if said artist was as prolific and talented as Mr. Clapton. The edgy, electrified sound of Clapton’s Cream days is gone and that is ok so long as you still get the TALENT, and many of Clapton’s performances (at least on tape) sometimes lacked the elements that you would have hoped for, despite his undeniable songwriting prowess…it was the PLAYING of the guitar, and the sound of said guitar, that we craved. Here, along with his pal Mark Knopfler, all of that is delivered and the audio quality does the whole thing justice because it is excellent. I think playing with Mark elevated Eric’s game. Hearing them do “Money For Nothing” together was cool, and Mark decided to sing in his own “bluesy” way in deference to Eric. Sweet! Eric Clapton feat. • Disc 1 Soundboard 9.7 - Beautiful, not the sloppy drunk Clapton here folks. Disc 2 Soundboard 8.8 - A little tape hiss and not as smooth of a mix but it’s a board tape and so you can get earfuls of Clapton guitar which is good at this time, more focused, more heartfelt, just better overall than previous years. • Soundboard 9.0 - This recording, to me, sounds like it was in a television studio for a live audience. I can’t tell for sure, but it is the way the audience reacts and the type of reverb going on. Either way, it’s a good recording, first couple of tracks a little hissy but it clears up considerably. • Audience 8.7 - It's not the clearest, deepest of recordings but it is not boomy, muddy, irritating, or ruined by shouting morons either. It gets the job done, and what's more it's one of those shows where another guitar legend just happens to be there and just happens to get on stage and jam at the end...this guitar legend is none other than Jeff Beck so there is that.

  • Soundboard 9.3 - Not the typical sounding board mix here, it’s got a much more live sounding guitar sound, like mic’d a little further away giving it some spacial quality, and vocals same way, like they are not fed direct into the board. It’s just sounds different than most, not in a bad way, just different.
