Audience 8.7 - I gave this a good rating for the combination of very good audience tape with not the best live stage mix (vocals kind of buried), excited audience (but respectful during performance) and a powerful performance (drums are wailing, Leslie is on point). Studio Quality 8.8 - Not quite ready for prime time, but very very good and nice to have in the collection. Some really good playing, and if you are a fan of Lou Reed, good singing…but that’s all pretty subjective isn’t it? Audience 8.8 - Thrown into the middle of the action, surrounded by hyper excited Japanese teenagers, you are REALLY going to experience what this evening felt like on many levels – not least of which was the super-electrified performance of a Queen band riding the crest of a popularity wave that would last many more years. Audio quality is good enough to warrant serious investigation of this offering. Queen Budokan, Tokyo, Japan March 22nd, 1976 Disc 1: 01. Opening 02. Introduction 03. Bohemian Rhapsody 04. Audience 8.8 - This is one of those tapes that requires high volume to really bring out the flavor. It’s good, in fact the louder you go the better it is, which is in itself quite nice. Soundboard 9.3 - Mixed well for a live broadcast, so you get a really good sense of what this band was about on the live stage. Now, I always kind of wondered really what these guys were about, and history can now reveal all of that, but my take is that they certainly owed a lot to Rush – that said they took that general presentation to a more FM friendly place. It worked for a while… Triumph Sports Arena Los Angeles, CA March 8, 1985 FM-sourced; lineage unknown

Audience 8.7 - I rate this as very good and it is, but a typical review might not explain what makes it so very good. It’s not the greatest live mix or sound, but it’s a tape that delivers real magic despite itself. The Mick’s (both of ‘em) are the highlight, both are more prominent and both are on top of their game. Audience 8.5 - A pretty clear but somewhat distant tape, with Ozzy being front and center followed by Randy and then some tin can drums and little to no real bottom end – but you do hear the notes played which makes this one to investigate as it is not very well known about. As I listen, I think the selling point is indeed how relatively clean and clear it is, a good capture all in all. Drums get a little better… the bottom end remains thin though. Soundboard 9.7 - Amazing set featuring the nitro-fueled blues rock of Rory Gallagher on full glorious display. A decidedly heavy approach this time, but it seems odd that the audience embraced this yet boo’d Stevie Ray Vaughan mercilessly only a few short years later. Either way, this is the good stuff right here. Audience 8.7 - This tape, when it first surfaced, was to many Kinks collectors the Holy Grail of live tapes. It marked the band’s triumphant return to the States, and the band was determined to make up for lost time. A fiery performance and a great capture. A tiny bit of tape chatter in the first track but it smooths out from there and is a real rocket ride! Audience 9.3 - I am primarily interested in 1969-1973 Stones but I gotta say, this band has become very sophisticated and very tight, from the playing, setlist construction, audience interaction, you can’t deny them their place at the top of Rock Royalty because they’ve not only earned it, they continue to do it. Bravo, this is just superb, from beginning to end. The Rolling Stones O2 Arena London, UK. Audience 7.9-8.3 - A tape that starts rough and ends rough but in the middle it is actually not bad. This is a taper that made this an event, the evening was captured with a genuine excitement which is epitomized by the introduction to the show by taper. I love that stuff. I like this tape because I understand now – it transcends the necessity for perfection because it happened in real time for the people who made this tape and there’s a twinkle of magic because you suddenly, for a split second, become them during the show. I can’t really explain it, but something happened while listening that made me understand what I was listening to beyond a rating. Make sense? THE ROLLING STONES Boston Garden Boston MA. Soundboard 9.7 - A fantastically clear, bright and accurate recording of what can only be described as genius level “funk” and house party music with sporadic blazing electric guitar and hot ensemble jams…you have to give credit where it is due…man this cat could lay it down! Soundboard 9.3 - Excellent, tight, punchy, clean but there’s still some atmosphere which I think may just be electricity, as in the electricity this band creates and that spills out onto the recording. A party-like atmosphere permeates and the band is very good all throughout this 3 disc set. Great performances, each and every band member shines. This style of funk stops and turns on a dime, with breakdowns and turnarounds, it’s exhilarating! Prince literally just about at his peak simply Wonderful! Audience 9.0 - This is a very fine recording no doubt about it, although there is some kind of audio artifact present at the extreme high almost like it might be from the main microphone (stage mic). So, I don’t think it is the tape, or taper’s gear. At first you may think it is almost like a noise reduction artifact but it is not that which you will agree when you hear the electric guitars. That’s probably the only thing you can knock this for, but even that is rather minor, the music is very present, great live mix too.
