Soundboard 8.8 - The audio is excellent soundboard but the mix leaves out most bottom end, although the bassist is there I can hear him sometimes! Is the recording trebly and thin? Nope. It’s a good recording, with everything you really came to hear which is guitar…and of that there is plenty. Ducking, diving, turning around on a dime, vibrating, electric and fun. I can highly recommend this even if the bass is…where’s the bass? More Bass Please ha ha! Still excellent, still worthwhile. Audience 9.0 - Recorded in the middle of a whole lot of fun but retains a nice focus on the music throughout. When you listen, you begin to fully kind of appreciate the aspects of an audience tape that soundboards simply don’t provide – there’s an immersive quality to it, as long as the audio fidelity is good you can relive the concert through the taper and his position in the audience. Audience 9.1 - A very very nice taping effort, captured here with very decent gear so the quality speaks for itself. Position of taper is good, so a nice mix of the sound from the PA, all in all it’s a good one and highly recommended. The audience recording being blended in really adds to this experience, even when you hear excitable fans clapping nearby…it’s quite exhilarating really and this recording will eventually be hailed and revered by fans because…well, unfortunately because of the passing of Taylor Hawkins (RIP). Audience 8.7 - A surprisingly decent tape surfaces from Italy where Genesis found initial acceptance in the early part of their career. Sound is clear for the most part, and the timbre is pleasing to the ear…if I can knock it I would say maybe it is a bit compressed in the middle, so no crispness in the highs nor definition in the low end but it’s not the kind of compression that you get from, say, a video tape. It’s quite good like I said so feel secure if you get it knowing it will be worthwhile. Audience 8.5 - At first it’s a little over-driven and very harsh but it all smoothes out and becomes an astonishing document…still rather crude but powerful and all instruments are heard. I was transfixed by this, by the band’s tightness and such excellent guitar! Wow, to have been there… Disc two is a very rare document of the John Kay Band opening for Steppenwolf in 1972 and is also very good…and very Steppenwolfy as you could imagine. Audience 8.6 - This tape does not offer a wide dynamic range, but neither is it compressed sounding, so it’s not awful on the ears. The good thing about capturing a band like Genesis during live performances is that the PA and mix is usually good, and not a distorted metal mess, so even average gear can produce reasonably good results.
