Audience 7.8 - A little bit rough but its incredible nonetheless…see, truth be told it took me 10 years to finally acquire this show. I have a special interest in it. I will say that, actual audio fidelity, while not hi-fi, is not lo-fi either – it has some power to it (without distortion!) and I LOVE the audience reactions throughout. A fiery gig! -
Soundboard 9.2 - A warm sounding tape, very punchy where it needs to be, maybe if I can complain about anything it would be in the relative sterility of it but that’s a soundboard’s Achilles heel isn’t it ? I’d recommend this to anyone, it is what we like to call “a keeper” for sure! Audience 8.8 - A little bit one dimensional but at least that dimension is very good! Vocals a bit behind here, but only a little. Drums, guitar – aw yeah! -
Audience 8.1 - A low generation tape used for this source helps immensely, as it sounds maybe recorded from middle of the floor, but it is actually quite good, a recommended addition to your collection. -

Audience 9.4 - One of the most exciting tapes, the sound leaps at you in amazing clarity and detail where you just get the sense that you are right there watching the gig. Great job by the taper, wish I could thank them personally. -
Audience 7.9 - Low levels but pretty clear when you turn it up. Some lack of distinction, but a straightforward audience recording with nothing to offend but not going to blow anyone away. -
Audience 8.4 - Captures the PA sound in reasonable quality, as if you are midway back on floor, so you do get the special aspect, you get some hall verb for sure but I have heard worse. -
Audience 6.6 – 7.0 - Noisy and one dimensional. The performance is special, Alex is inspired. There are moments of clarity on this tape, it is not complete garbage at all, but overall is not one of the best recordings out there. -
Audience 7.5 - Some depth for a one dimensional middle of the stadium recording. Bass is in a good place, relatively clear but somewhat distant. -
Audience 8.6 - Sometimes, a rating cannot reflect the magnitude of a recording. I can specifically say that this one is only an 8.6 in a sonic sense, which means it is very good and worthwhile, but man, let me tell you what this show REALLY is – it’s an 11. Why? Because this is, quite simply, Rush in an unbelievable fine form playing their (arguably) best stuff, and the recording has captured that and a very palpable atmosphere at the same time. A little clarity is lost in the bass/guitar separation as they seem to sound as one unit which is not such a bad thing as it creates a sonic roar, a lion’s roar it is too, but it does get a little crowded in that frequency range. But, it captures an amazing power those two had on stage, the sound is ferocious and menacing. -
Audience 8.6 - Go ahead and crank this, the louder it gets the better it sounds. -
Audience 8.8 - What happens when you take an already good tape and make it better?....This....MAJOR UPGRADE! -
Audience 8.6 - OK, so this is one you might not be too familiar with, but it’s from ’79 so you know you gotta have it…so what’s the catch? Does it suck? Naw man, this recording actually captures THE EVENT in a way that sounds so realistic you’d think you were there. Now, here’s the catch – poor taper’s gear just was not quite up to the challenge of the volume and so there’s the little tiniest bit of distortion that affects one very narrow piece of the middle bandwidth that thankfully is not the annoying kind of distortion, it’s not a deal breaker. It does mean you may not wish to crank this up too loud as the louder it gets the more that frequency announces its presence to your ears. That being said, if you want complete immersion this tape provides it and then some. For that reason I think you have to dive in, I did and I really do appreciate this kind of tape. GREAT find and appreciated a little bit more being that it’s a Grace Under Pressure tour gig which for some reason there’s not a plethora of excellent recordings from this tour. -
Audience 9.2 - A lovely, spacious, almost elegant recording even though it is originating somewhere in the middle I would guess. The sound feels slightly above you, but it’s warm and pleasant. The only knock is that taper missed a little of a couple of songs due to hassles from security. I can forgive that, at least they didn’t seize his gear. Good job taper! Audience 8.8 - This is what we all look forward to as Rush collectors, another great, and rare, Rush show from one of their best time periods. While not quite as clear as the Boston 79, this tape gives us a great aural spectrum for our ears to delight in. Very consistent throughout, although just to be super detailed I have to prefer the second show which seems to be slightly closer to my ears. The quality is very clear, leans towards the upper end of the sound spectrum but not too harsh, only to the point I think you could add some bass and that would really allow these shows to satisfy. They are all very good, bass would put them into the great category. Audience 7.4 - A scratchy, distant, and cluttered recording of an energetic show (band and audience). Is it worth getting? It’s on the ragged edge if you ask me, but as a completist you will find that it is not unlistenable muck, thankfully. It is interesting to hear a veteran touring band giving it 100% effort even if the city is other than New York, LA or Chicago. Just another tour stop, in the deep south no less, but there’s Rush giving their fans their all, night after night. God Bless Rush! -
Audience 8.4 - A tape that I am sure has slipped through the cracks and has been forgotten by collectors when I don’t think it ought to be. It’s surely not the greatest recording, and it’s also not nearly the worst – but it’s from a really great period and tour, some of the best moments for Rush seemed to occur on the European leg of the 1979 tour. You can listen to the infamous Offenbach or Pink Pop tapes as proof, but this forgotten old tape, having been dusted off and given a fresh re-mastering, is ready to be added to your collection. Audience 8.6 - I wanted to give this a better rating, and truth is it ain’t bad, but it is a little distant and the music lacks punch. It is clear enough though, and audience actually helps propel the energy level up a notch. Austin music fans are always up for a great concert and really show their enthusiasm. Also, I think the set list around this time was put together very well and flows nicely. Audience 9.6 - Been looking for a great sounding 1981 show? Yeah, me too. Now, I am happy to say we have found it. This is as good as you would ever hope for, spacious and warm, with plenty of headroom to increase your volume, tone, whatever you want and it just gets better. Hasn’t left my player in a week. Audience 8.4 - This is a case of a show, actually let me re-phrase that, this WAS a show that many collectors lamented as being a superb performance marred by very marginal sound quality. Not anymore! Friends, this new direct from master source and re-mastered version of this totally excellent gig is simply a joy to get to listen to in this improved quality. Not that it is astounding, in fact it still has issues, but the jump from what it was (about a 7.3) to what it is now is too great an improvement to not shower heaps of praise upon it. Note: It doesn’t get good until about halfway through the first song, then there is a little cut in the tape, and then it gets noticeably better and better. -
Audience 9.2 - I love how this sounds! Geddy is so clear, the sound is very comfortable to my ears and I just love how the drums and bass are distinct – especially the bass because my gosh Geddy is such a badass and so on point here. This is kind of a historic gig in as way most would not even notice. 30 years prior to this date was the last time Rush played the Allentown Fair, and they played a few songs not yet released…welp, fast forward 30 years and they do the same thing here! How cool is that? One other personal detail that struck me was how the performance took me back to around 1979, I felt the performance and atmosphere, along with how the tape itself was recorded, all for some reason made me, at times, think this sounded like the late 70's. Audience 9.5 - If the date of this show looks familiar, it’s because she’s opening for Black Sabbath! Now, while this music is a product of its time, it is not to say that it’s not worthy of examination – I’ll be the first to say I love this stuff. First, it’s just kick ass rock and roll, with loads of hooks and even though the majority of the song structures are standard barre chord blues-based riff rock, they have put enough creativity in them to make you take notice. Ruby is best known for being stage mates with Jim Dandy in Black Oak Arkansas, but whatever she learned from him she has taken very good notes and delivers primo stadium caliber boogie.
