Soundboard 9.4 - A good stereo board of a criminally underrated band. You will hear plenty of Celtic themed rock material, but also a band with a wide palette of ideas. Great stuff! -
Austin band that formed out of the ashes of The Cosmic Head Band circa 1976. These recordings took place over the course of a decade, in various garages, in sweltering heat amidst cases of Lone Star beer and cheap Mexican brick. The results, while a little rough around the edges, are pretty devastating. Twin guitar attack influenced by Rush, Wishbone Ash, Cream, Frank Marino, and Black Sabbath - loads of feedback, wah-wah, dirty and distorted garage acid prog psyche proto-metal. Cool! -
Audience 9.0 - A small club atmosphere puts you up close to the band and the respectful audience. The music is all-encompassing, it’s space rock with emphasis on rock, and It is quite interesting. Quality is clear, it’s not super dynamic but you can really sink into this recording and what is extra cool is the taper stayed for both sets leading me to believe they were connected to the band or their management. FM Broadcast 9.3 - Terrific all around, for fans who haven’t heard much of these guys live, this is a real good place to find out about them. Formed in Dallas, TX. in 1970, they were very active gigging and recording (several 7" singles) and built a good size following by the time of their pinnacle in 1976. Their lead guitarist, Randy Nunnally, had even attracted the attention of National act Ted Nugent and was asked to join Ted as his guitarist for a tour. Unfortunately, at that same time, Randy was diagnosed with ALS and went downhill pretty fast, passing away a few short years later. This CD contains music found on their 7" singles as well as a fantastic live radio broadcast. All of the original master tapes were lost in a fire, this is all the music that could be found. The CD is dedicated to the memory of the late, great Randy Nunnally. -

Audience 9.1 - What a find! This tape exudes raw power, and hearkens back to the original sound and style of the band much more so than what would be just a year and a half later. Does that mean it’s a raw blues rock show? No, but there is a lot of that here, and more than that it’s the TONE of the band. Gritty, mean, raw but tight…fierce! Audience 7.5 - This is direct from the open reel master tape. There is some limitation to the capture (slight oversaturation) but I would say this is a pretty fascinating document. -

Not just for the excellent sound but the dynamics are so present here, you get lush, rich lows and then all the way up through the spectrum including detailed but not sizzling highs. Combine all that with the energy of Tusk performed with a marching band at the LA Forum and man, yeah, this is the stuff! Audience 9.1 - A good, clean and bright recording that is clear and detailed. Maybe I would say it could use more bottom end but I am nitpicking, it’s got all the essential things a listener needs to be able to “relax” when listening. You don’t have to strain to hear everyone on stage but mix-wise I would place bass and drums more to the back, relatively speaking, on this tape. A soundboard is a recording, and to be honest it doesn’t actually “capture” the event, it is what you would have heard if you were running the live sound for the band. Make sense? Audience 8.8 - A very atmospheric recording that gives you an amazing sense of space and proximity to the action. The music has room to move around, so it’s a natural sounding recording and the listening experience benefits greatly. Sometimes at full volume when the band is really cooking, the music gets a little bunched up but the tapers were good with levels so it does not offend and I appreciate that. This is a real gem! -

Pro Video Source 8.5 - These sound like they were taken from video tape sources and have the telltale compression characteristics. These are actually several different broadcasts during the year 1976, with the final four tracks coming from UC Santa Barbara, which is also the best sounding of the batch. -

Audience 8.7 and 8.8 - Both of these recordings are quite good, and most welcomed. Each feature Bob Welch, although the ’72 also has Danny Kirwan still on board (but not for much longer). You can tell he is drunk, but even with all the stuff happening on stage (some clearly audible), the band still manage to put on a good show. Audience/SDB 8.9/8.5/9.2/8.7 - A mixed bag but all in all I found it to be very interesting and sound quality held up respectably considering how rare some of this material is.
