Audience 8.7 - Is it possible to be too good of a player? I mean, he’s clearly got mastery of the instrument, and the material, but there’s something about a player that gets too close to the edge that excites me, like Rory Gallagher for instance, you know, where it seems at any moment they might just completely take it to the ragged edge – and Joe has a very controlled fire in contrast which is fine, but I need more. Fans will love this performance, he’s clearly at the top here.

Audience 8.8 - Great clear sound, very present and good atmospherics. Highly enjoyable!

Audience 8.2 - Very live with that festival vibe all over it. Clear guitar right in your face.

Soundboard/Audience - Excellent throughout. Features on track with Joe Paris, Stephen Stills, Buddy Miles, Janis Joplin; each at various locations.

Soundboard 8.7 - This is a pro recording but what hurts it is the upper end frequencies, they seem a bit shrill to me. Now, the good news is that you can EQ this and since the highs are so present, you won’t lose them with any EQ’ing. So I think this tape is a sound engineer’s dream.

Audience 7.4 - 7.7 - Varies because most of the show is pretty decent coming from a master cassette tape, but towards the end it decreases just a little bit and makes me think taper had to relocate or something. I believe this show was recorded a little later than the official live album recordings.

Audience 8.4 - Surprisingly good, knowing just how few good audience tapers are from this period of the early Johnny Winter And. Now, the tape does show signs of age, mainly with some light hiss present and occasionally the volume decreases but not in a really annoying way at all. This is some fiery playing and a pretty clear, and sometimes dynamic tape.

Audience 8.5 - A good and clear tape that stays pretty much in the center channel, without a bunch of dynamics but also no distractions either. It’s a solid capture of a great period for Johnny Winter.

Audience 9.2 - I rated this highly because even though the levels are hot there is no distortion and it’s a decent live mix with some atmosphere present too (you can distinguish the delay on the guitar and echo on vocals over all the intense action of the band which is a pleasant thing). It’s also a great gig!

Audience 7.8 - Excellent! Good dynamics and tons of atmosphere.

Soundboard 9.0 - hot show!  A band that always put on a good, solid, tight and professional show. Total pro's and that's why we still love them.

Soundboard 9.8 - Almost perfect.

Audience 8.7 - Starts off a little rough but gets better and better (audience clapping notwithstanding).

CD 1 and 2:  Madrid - Aud 7.8 - Focus on the guitars here, so less than stellar but good for listening to the amazing guitar interplay which is superb during this show CD 3 and 4:  Niagara Falls - Aud 8.4 - A remastered version of a pretty good gig, sound is very bright and lively, and that helps convey the manic energy of the band and audience, who respond overwhelmingly. Both shows offer benefits to the Priest fans.

Audience 8.8 - Good punchy recording that gives you a front row seat to the action.

Soundboard 8.9 - Would have rated higher but the tape breaks a little at the top where the levels are so hot, not distorted, just that fragile old analog tape overloading signal noise but only during the really heavy sections where the whole band is cooking. Still highly enjoyable!

Aud 8.3 - Surprisingly clear, at full volume there’s maybe some crowding as drums fight for attention in the mix, but basically what you have here is a great idea of what an early 70’s GG concert would have sounded like. Realistic, and the band is just so good, more rocking and less quirky maybe.
