  • Audience 8.2 - This rare old tape shows signs of age, with the typical problems such as tape hiss and some dropouts occasionally but it is saved because there is music underneath it, I mean, you do hear the band reasonably well and it happens that, for whatever reason, there is no abundance of ’79 shows by this band. Plenty of 80’s, and some pre-’79 too but not a lot of 1979 gigs. Also, of note this gig was the one right before their appearance on Rockpalast.

  • Soundboard 9.3 - A super clean, almost clinical board tape where you get detail on all the instruments. This is probably not how the show actually sounded, but it’s great if you want to hear the band playing in your living room. • Audience 8.4 - The Roundhouse in London was not the ideal place to make a stealth recording, and this one barely wins the struggle between room and distance to present a surprising, clear picture of a very early Dire Straits show. Songs “Me And My Friends” and “Real Girl” would be dropped from the set soon after this show, so having a tape like this should be considered important to the collector. • Soundboard 9.8 - What you have here is an absolute “Must Have” for any fan even remotely interested in this band. I would say this comes highly recommended to ANYONE who enjoys music, period. • Soundboard 9.6 - Pretty much the crème de la crème for collectors of this great band. Fame is just now latching on to them, as they get ever larger gigs and more exposure. Wait until Money For Nothing and then it really takes off! I guess these are the days before the glory although I would say they are hitting their stride. Dire Straits Studio-L. • Soundboard 9.4 - Consistently excellent across the entire set, and the great thing is there is minimal song duplication throughout. • Audience 9.4 - Outstanding tape that has a full, rich bottom end that comes close to overshadowing the rest of the band but does not…but the fact that it is so insistent in the mix gives you that feeling like you are standing close to the mains and literally feel the bass and drums going right through you. That is what gives this recording an amazing live feel, because it literally places you right there and when you crank this you relive this event.  This date is NOT the same show as the other Cologne '79 (Rockpalast) listed here. This is November 4th, 1979 so if you bought the other Cologne '79 this is not that and this is equal if not better in some ways than the Rockpalast gig. • Soundboard  9.2 - Don't assume that there is any particular period of Dio's career that is "better" or somehow more desirable. Dio was a total pro, and he always put together exceptional bands. Vivian Campbell just shreds on this. The performance, the quality, Dio up to his usual high standards of excellence - this is a must have!
  • Audience  8.9 - A solid but very loud recording with the tiniest bit of overloaded signal that seems to make this recording jump out of the speakers with supreme force. Pretty intense stuff, highly recommended!
  • Audience 9.3 - An excellent capture of a great performance by the entire band. With a recording like this where taper is using high quality equipment, the end result is only as good as the PA sound since that is what your mics capture. In the case of Dio, I am sure they have a multi-million dollar PA system and expert sound engineers at the desk. The live sound is well mixed and powerful. • Audience  8.8 - A tape with a ton of atmosphere and electricity. The audio does not have a super well balanced mix but rather a strong focus on Dio’s vocals (fine by me) and really solid drums followed by a good mid range punch of guitar and bass. This is enjoyable stuff here!
