• Audience 9.5 - A sparkling, vivid recollection of a moment in time when an evening of progressive rock music was being performed by masters of the craft, and it was sublime. A recording that has wonderful atmosphere, solid and deep, showcasing both guitar and bass in a manner so that each are distinct yet blended perfectly. • Audience 8.8 - A two-source merge that adds another dimension to the otherwise rather muddy and listless original release of this show. • Soundboard 9.4 - This is not a pure board and by that I mean it sounds like some of the instruments are not direct patches through the board onto the tape. It sounds like a hybrid where some of it is a direct feed and some of it is mic’d up. You can tell it is something like that when listening to the difference between the keyboards and vocals, and drums (especially the kick).  Either way it’s great. • Audience 9.4 - A tape that is almost TOO good…and by that I mean it has captured with sonic clarity the exact sound coming from the P.A. – which in this case was a P.A. that had some really pumping upper mid’s and high range frequencies!  No wonder people often leave home from a concert with a ringing in their ears…for weeks!  This show would have had me moving farther back to be honest. That being said it is just my own preference for sound – but the casual listener will find this recording damagingly good. • Denver 1983 Soundboard 9.3 - Typical of the sharp and detailed board tapes from this tour.

Detroit 1983 Video source 8.6 - Possibly grabbed off a VHS or some other video source. I cannot confirm this 100% but my ears tell me that is the case here. It is a professional recording with a lot of issues concerning compression and noise – I say it is pro because of the location this is being recorded from which seems definite it is not from the audience.

  • Soundboard 9.3 - There are moments in this recording that you swear it has to be one of Prince’s best ever – what got him so pumped up for this gig?  Maybe he was pumped for every gig but slightly more at certain gigs. I don’t know but this one got me pumped as well!  Love the energy and fluid playing.

  • Norfolk 1972 Audience 8.6 - A rough and tumble tape that surprisingly delivers the sounds you need to be able to hear the band play. The most important thing is this: Mick Taylor is the clearest! You wouldn’t expect that in a million years I know but here it is.

Indianapolis 1972 Audience 8.3 - Low end of the totem pole recording that is represented here because it is perhaps the best source for it. Is there anything salvageable at all?  Yes. It’s distant and not distinct but for completists they will be happy to have the good source and complete their 1972 tour collections.

  • Audience 8.7 - This is definitely the best sounding version of this show. Not bad either – typical of the time period but tapers managed to capture the entire show in pretty good quality.  You can easily forgive some of the minor flaws because that is what they are…minor. A keeper!
