You will have to deal with the fans, but they aren’t ruining this capture they are just present. I liked this one a lot, I listened all the way through in fact. Audience 9.2 - A lovely, spacious, almost elegant recording even though it is originating somewhere in the middle I would guess. The sound feels slightly above you, but it’s warm and pleasant. The only knock is that taper missed a little of a couple of songs due to hassles from security. I can forgive that, at least they didn’t seize his gear. Good job taper! Pro Recording 9.1 - The engineers for this live recording opted to not close mic so you have a live recording with lots of atmosphere and probably sounding truer to the actual event than a pure soundboard. The bass is well recorded here, normally you’d expect the sound mix to favor only guitar as that is what the fans are wanting most – but here the mix is rather democratic. Good job! Audience 9.5 - Hard to really improve upon this one - it's lovely in all regards. Great, clean highs and round lows with a great mid range. It's highlighted by a respectful crowd that rarely intrudes while the band is performing but very enthusiastic between songs. Wish I was there. This recording allows me to be there and hear what I missed. Audience 8.8 - This is NOT the Monsters of Rock show, it’s actually the last DLR (classic era) show and it’s pretty good! It’s not super close up or terribly far from stage, seems to be in a nice spot and everything is clear with decent dynamics. Now, it’s a recording from a rowdy crowd but even with that I felt they did not ruin this or intrude unnecessarily – in fact it seemed they wanted to listen to the band and not hold conversations or stupid hooting and whistling during songs. Stockholm 1983 Audience 8.9 - This tape starts off kind of average and slowly but surely keeps getting better until what we have is a very good tape of a really good show. As most already know, any good tape of this line up is VERY welcome as it showcases what I consider a great band – I did not say a great Black Sabbath because you can’t get away from Ian’s obvious vocal inflections that inevitably recall his old band. That being said if you listen to this without that bias you realize how good this BAND was in 1983. Paris 1983 Soundboard 9.1 - A most welcomed thing amongst Black Sabbath collectors without question is this board tape with the Ian Gillan line up. I love the material they recorded on Born Again, this is almost the logical progression from Technical Ecstasy, to me anyway. The music is more ideally suited to Ian Gillan’s vocals than it would have been to Ronnie James Dio and I think that is obvious. Black Sabbath Quebec City 1983 Audience 8.9 - I like this tape because you really get to hear and appreciate what the bass is all about in Sabbath and it is here in excellent detail. Everyone shines, it’s great to have this abundance of riches because this short-lived period of Black Sabbath is certainly one of the most unique sounding. Soundboard 9.2 - I think this right here is as good as it will get to a complete Tommy Bolin Purple gig in soundboard quality and, here’s the important thing, reasonably cohesive playing. To be honest, after listening to this, it’s kind of apparent that Deep Purple was probably not the best vehicle for Tommy’s talents. Not that he can’t play, but that Deep Purple’s music was too one dimensional. That being said it is still pretty good despite the erratic mix – sometimes guitar is up front and sometimes it is buried. Audience 9.3 - Legendary Mike “The Mic” Millard recording and what a sparkling one it is. It’s hard to place Yes’s music into any sort of time frame because it is timeless, therefore a good 1991 show is just as “good” as a 1971 show, meaning as you listen you realize there’s no real difference in that the 1991 show might as well be the band during any time frame because it’s just as good.
