• Audience 9.5 - A lot of audience periphery (shouting and bustling) but nonetheless it’s a crystal clean and very dynamic recording. The energy is palpable and comes right out pretty much all the way through as the audience is very responsive and Prince most definitely fed off it. Guitar tone is perfection – vocals very nicely placed in the mix as is everything really. Great, great stuff!

Audience 9.3 - The ’92 Aftershow is equally excellent with just slight differences in tone and distance to come second place to the Bataclan show.

Pro 9.3 – The radio broadcasts here are great and as you would expect, since they are professionally recorded, but honestly I still prefer the Bataclan audience tape which says an awful lot about what a good job taper did on that.

Audience 8.8 - The final disc contains London ’99 audience tape which is the weakest of this set but still decent enough to enjoy. Sounds somewhat distant (not in the stadium sense but small venue distant).

  • Soundboard 9.3 - Listen to the beginnings of something happening, you can feel it about to take off. It’s a bunch of free-thinking kids who’ve smoked a little something, maybe popped a few little somethings…and then whaddya know the blues and folk and country and all kinds of music you grew up with sounds a whole lot better if you amp it up and throw some wild licks here and there…maybe let the sound feedback some…the birth of the San Francisco sound of the 60’s. Some minor bumps and bruises with the old tape but it also sounds like it’s right in your living room so the minor hiccups don’t even phase you. • Norfolk 1972 Audience 8.6 - A rough and tumble tape that surprisingly delivers the sounds you need to be able to hear the band play. The most important thing is this: Mick Taylor is the clearest! You wouldn’t expect that in a million years I know but here it is.

Indianapolis 1972 Audience 8.3 - Low end of the totem pole recording that is represented here because it is perhaps the best source for it. Is there anything salvageable at all?  Yes. It’s distant and not distinct but for completists they will be happy to have the good source and complete their 1972 tour collections.

  • Audience 8.7 - This is definitely the best sounding version of this show. Not bad either – typical of the time period but tapers managed to capture the entire show in pretty good quality.  You can easily forgive some of the minor flaws because that is what they are…minor. A keeper!

  • Audience 9.1 - A very well done audience tape is the source, and the atmospherics are nice and immersive. Sound quality is right in the pocket!  Show was unfortunately cut short due to severe weather, but there’s enough music here to satisfy regardless. • Audience 9.6 - This venue has always been very acoustically prime for capturing from the audience. There is great atmosphere, the kind that not only adds feeling to the recording but also the kind that inspires the artist. This tape showcases everything one looks for in a sound recording.

  • Audience 9.6 - Exciting and full bodied, this is what I want from any recording from the modern era…there’s no excuse for a sub-par bootleg post 1980 in my opinion. PA’s were better, recording gear better (that may be subjective), but the point is it SHOULD sound great from 1991 and this does – and not only that but the band JAMS!

  • Soundboard 9.0 - Sounds like a 70’s board tape alright – a little dated but man, it sure does kick ass!  Really PHAT with perfect guitar tone and bashing drums, and vocals in your eardrums! • “Audience” studio 8.7 An amateur recording it might be, but like any rock and roll band in rehearsals you probably weren’t too worried about doing professional recordings. They were not exactly shiny and perfect here, getting ready for a tour, so yeah I understand the nature of the tapes and I still like it. Some tape hiss, some lo-fi moments but all in all fascinating fly-on-the-wall stuff. See Artwork for Track Listings (sorry I didn't feel like typing it all out!)

  • Studio 9.2/9.6  - Not a lot to complain about here except maybe just the little bit of tape hiss (unremarkable). I found it interesting to hear the early takes because on some of the tracks it really shows less of the Southern influence and more of the psychedelic influence (listen to their cover of Evil Ways). • Birmingham 1976 Pro Radio 9.5 - Obviously this should be excellent quality seeing as how it was recorded for British Biscuit radio broadcast. Well, yeah, it’s really good!

Dallas 1981 Pro Radio 8.9 - Sounds maybe a gen or two down (but no tape hiss) or perhaps just the age of the tape this was recorded on as it was presumably tapes off the air. Still, it’s very good and I am sure with some EQ touches could really bring more of the highs out.

  • Audience 8.3/8.5 - Despite the low approval ratings of these audio tapes, I have to say I still think they are important to the Megadeth collector for several reasons. There’s just not a lot of recordings from these early periods for some unknown reason, and these shows, having been cleaned up and re-mastered as well as could be done, represent listenable time capsules of perhaps one of the all-time greatest metal band. Megadeth do not get the same accolades as some of the other big metal bands (do I have to mention them?) but I always loved their complexity and sarcasm. I did listen to both of these shows and once my ears adjusted I stuck with it and wrote this review without bias. Average tapes that deserve a place in any collection because of the significance of this band.
