• Cleveland 1981 is an FM Broadcast 9.2 which I had not heard before believe it or not, so, I was suitably impressed. Anyone would be appreciative! The second disc (and most of the 3rd) is Montreal 81 and is an FM Broadcast 8.9 due to a more subdued signal that does not take away any frequency range but rather slightly compresses the sound just a bit. Now I want the listener to realize that this is a subjective opinion, technically speaking the audio here is excellent so it’s a matter of personal taste in this case. The second half of disc 3 is all studio quality. • Audience 9.3 - As good as it could be for a large stadium concert. Despite the soundmen fighting mic feedback issues during the first few songs, it certainly gets dialed in and becomes quite nice with the feeling of this being an event, the atmosphere, the way the sound sort of envelopes your ears and you get a sense of size and space. Really sweet!

  • Soundboard 9.7 - Why this tape isn’t more celebrated I’ll never understand. It’s just mind blowing! The performance is off the charts great, and the sound is very bold and nicely mixed. • Audience 9.8 - It’s hard to find anything that is quite as marvelous as this…seriously. You can take all your pristine board tapes and none of them come close to capturing the essence of Led Zeppelin on stage in front of an audience. This is simply a MUST HAVE no matter how many shows you have in the collection (certainly you already have this anyway) but get this one again because it’s been recently transferred from the original cassette masters and given the treatment. This could easily come out officially. BRILLIANT!!! • Audience 8.6 - A new tape to circulation and a most welcomed one. It’s certainly quite different and for Zep collectors will be analyzed incessantly and be shown as a “keeper” for many reasons. Sound quality is a little hissy but surprisingly clear and without mud. Dynamically it’s not going to shatter any records but let me tell you for what this is, it offers a fascinating window into a hard-working touring band making yet another tour stop in some out of the way, random Scandinavian town nobody has ever heard of. • Audience 9.0 - Here’s a great sounding complete show from the ambitious “reunion” tour of 1974 which had the band in not only fine form but giving audiences a marathon set loaded with excellent songs. • Audience 9.2 - I love how this sounds! Geddy is so clear, the sound is very comfortable to my ears and I just love how the drums and bass are distinct – especially the bass because my gosh Geddy is such a badass and so on point here. This is kind of a historic gig in as way most would not even notice. 30 years prior to this date was the last time Rush played the Allentown Fair, and they played a few songs not yet released…welp, fast forward 30 years and they do the same thing here! How cool is that? One other personal detail that struck me was how the performance took me back to around 1979, I felt the performance and atmosphere, along with how the tape itself was recorded, all for some reason made me, at times, think this sounded like the late 70's. • Audience 8.7 - A rattling, rambunctious recording that you will LOVE because it’s the sonic equivalent of the Stones’ personalities. Sure, yeah, this recording is imperfect but it does NOT suffer from muddiness, rather the opposite, it’s very “sharp” and sometimes cymbal crashes irritate (not always), and yet I listened all the way through and had a great time with this show. The quality is not really an issue. This is a just a classic Stones gig and the fact we have the opening acts, man, that is amazing! • Audience 9.7 - Contrary to what you initially would have thought about Prince audience recordings, that the people there to see him aren’t exactly the type you would think would be overly concerned about getting an excellent capture…sure I am profiling here but it’s true - you expect this crowd is mainly there to bump and grind with each other and party like it’s 1999 or something. Now, I have to say after listening to many Prince audience recordings I come away as being impressed for the most part. This tape confirms what I now believe, that Prince bootleggers actually give a shit about the quality of the sound recordings they make. I LOVE the sound and feel of this tape…hands down I put this up against ANY soundboard you want to throw at me. This has ELECTRICITY and you don’t get that out of line recordings. • Audience 8.8 - Here we have two concerts in very good quality that show a band undeniably at the peak, a peak that seemed to stretch out for a VERY long time I might add, but a creative peak that gave audiences a lot to digest musically. The quality of this tape is pretty decent but I give it a knock in the rating (although 8.8 is still high) because I got too much emphasis on an upper mid frequency that didn’t rub me the right way and this is a subjective analysis. The tape allows plenty of information in that you get pretty much everything, it’s clear, and the content is worth the price of admission. I am making a subjective observation but I feel the taper had done an amazing job and it would have gotten a 9.4 if the mic he used delivered more dynamics and a wider sound-field. Picky picky picky!  This sounds good. • Disc 1 Pittsburgh 1974 Audience 8.5 A rather middle of the road tape that does not offend the ears, but does not offer great separation of instruments. It’s not that it is real muddy either, it’s just that Sabbath were very loud, and unless you were seated ideally for taping, and, if your taping gear was high quality, you “might” get a very good recording of this band. That being said, I have heard much worse, and this is a new tape to circulation. Some good jams, Ozzy is very excited this night. Disc 2 Niagara Falls 1978 Audience 8.7 A bit better than the previous disc in this set, it offers better separation of instruments and more dynamics. In parts, it’s actually even better than the 8.7 rating. A rare tape, it offers something to collectors and features complete versions of the Technical Ecstasy songs which is a big plus. Disc 3 Live Rehearsals and Unknown Live 1979-80 Soundboard 9.8 Two very cool pieces that may have fallen through the cracks for most collectors but thankfully included in this Lost Recordings set. Both are worth repeated listening.
