Audience 7.8 - Tape is a little over saturated but all the music comes through and well separated so that you get every piano key, every guitar note, every bass note, etc. and it’s great. -
Audience 8.8 - This is a strange recording because at first it may seem as though it is a board tape because there’s virtually no audience noise at all. Closer examination reveals that it is more likely an open mic placed right up on the stage or close to the mains. It is a little hot, meaning the levels are near max, but thankfully it only comes to the bleeding edge and does not fall off the cliff. A pretty darn exciting tape! -

Audience 8.5 - Maybe a little low end muddiness with a real strong bass presence but I don’t think it kills this recording at all. If the guitars and vocals did not come through I would have said otherwise. The playing is exceptional; this recording should be enjoyed by all. -

Soundboard 9.3 - Guitars literally leap out of the speakers in this mix. Not 100% if it is actually a board tape because there’s some atmosphere, at least with vocals and drums. -
Audience 6.8 - From what I understand this was once one of the rarest D & the D’s tapes. Unfortunately it is pretty rough, that being said guitar is the clearest thing on here. A fiery show too! -
Audience 8.6 - Open mic recordings of a studio rehearsal session that sound fairly decent if not a bit raucous and rough around the edges. -
Audience 8.4 - At some parts there is an annoying noise in the bandwidth, but it clears up. Nevertheless this is one to get. -

Audience 8.7 - A real small club atmosphere that puts you kind of up front where you get a real snappy drum sound and then guitars and vocals seem panned in wide stereo field because I can only assume the recorder was standing in front of the stage and was picking up the drums first then the P.A.’s which give this a very real vibe. -
Audience 8.6 - Complete show that even includes the opening act “Dove” which sounds suspicious to me but there it is. This is a very good recording which is a bit spacious sounding for being in a club, and really conveys the feeling and the immediate crowd response which is very enthusiastic. -
Audience 9.1 - Sounds very close and hard to tell whether aud or board but for the audience members in the background. Super cool actually, I like the impact of the guitar/bass in this tape. Soundboard 8.8 - From a vinyl source, of course it’s great, but be prepared for tell-tale vinyl crackles and surface noise (minor), which all lends an air of authenticity to it. -
Believe it or not this is the most sought after issue of this album, even more so than the vinyl or original 1993 CD issue. Go figure. Brand New - Sealed -

FM Broadcast 9.8 - Just about as good as it can get, this captures the moment and freezes it forever in such granular detail that it feels like you are sitting right next to Dickie’s amp. It makes you appreciate his playing like never before. I mean, I play the guitar, but I have no concept of how you turn it into an extension of yourself to the degree that it is practically impossible to make even the slightest mistake. Not that his playing is perfection, it almost is, but just that he uses the instrument to convey so much feeling that it is impossible even to tell if he ever misses a note or phrases something wrong. Does that make sense? NOTE: The artwork shows disc two with only the last two tracks but the set has been tracked to include "Jessica" and "The Way Love Goes" on disc 2...so the artwork will not be changed to reflect the song order it just is what it is. Soundboard 9.1 - I am kind of doubting whether it is truly a board tape because it doesn’t have that sort of dry and immediate sound, it’s got too much atmosphere. That being said, it is definitely pro, and could be open mics placed strategically around the stage. Sounds great! -

Audience 8.8 - A tape with a ton of atmosphere and electricity. The audio does not have a super well balanced mix but rather a strong focus on Dio’s vocals (fine by me) and really solid drums followed by a good mid range punch of guitar and bass. This is enjoyable stuff here! -

Audience 9.3 - An excellent capture of a great performance by the entire band. With a recording like this where taper is using high quality equipment, the end result is only as good as the PA sound since that is what your mics capture. In the case of Dio, I am sure they have a multi-million dollar PA system and expert sound engineers at the desk. The live sound is well mixed and powerful. Audience 8.9 - A solid but very loud recording with the tiniest bit of overloaded signal that seems to make this recording jump out of the speakers with supreme force. Pretty intense stuff, highly recommended! -

Soundboard 9.2 - Don't assume that there is any particular period of Dio's career that is "better" or somehow more desirable. Dio was a total pro, and he always put together exceptional bands. Vivian Campbell just shreds on this. The performance, the quality, Dio up to his usual high standards of excellence - this is a must have! -
Audience 9.4 - Outstanding tape that has a full, rich bottom end that comes close to overshadowing the rest of the band but does not…but the fact that it is so insistent in the mix gives you that feeling like you are standing close to the mains and literally feel the bass and drums going right through you. That is what gives this recording an amazing live feel, because it literally places you right there and when you crank this you relive this event. This date is NOT the same show as the other Cologne '79 (Rockpalast) listed here. This is November 4th, 1979 so if you bought the other Cologne '79 this is not that and this is equal if not better in some ways than the Rockpalast gig.
