  • Audience 8.3 - On this tape, you will hear all instruments (guitar out front) pretty clearly, not much crispness but decent bottom end and midrange intact. Slightly muddy in the middle with occasional brighter spots (definite improvement by the beginning of disc 2) throughout as the taper moves into better position. A touch of hiss is present. Not bad, not stellar, I would get it though if you like Rory’s set list during this time (Shadow Play, etc.). Rory Gallagher .... • Soundboard 9.7 - Amazing set featuring the nitro-fueled blues rock of Rory Gallagher on full glorious display. A decidedly heavy approach this time, but it seems odd that the audience embraced this yet boo’d Stevie Ray Vaughan mercilessly only a few short years later. Either way, this is the good stuff right here. • Audience 8.4 - A distant recording without a lot of dynamics but the audio is clear enough especially vocals and guitar. Low end is not in abundance but the bass notes are audible and distinct which helps this tape become something collectors should want, it is, after all, a 1975 concert and fills that part of the collection. The take-away? A guitar-centric tape, a great show, worthy of the collection but not winning any awards for scintillating dynamics. • Audience 8.4 - A recent discovery, and man what a good one. A very strong recording for the time, minimal errors although maybe a touch hot on the upper end of the bandwidth but not enough to harm. The sound is pretty direct and forceful, if even a touch of rawness that harkens back to his really early days with Taste.

  • Audience 8.8 - It's kind of a good thing that this concert is performed acoustically because the way this taper captured it I can't imagine an electric guitar, bass, and drums with the massive volume it would have been. That is because this sounds like taper was very close, and the hall acoustics are very "live", so, in essence because it is acoustic it isn't a loud, distorted mess...but could easily have been if this was any louder or closer to the stage. It's just at the breaking point volume wise, and there's the slightest touch of distortion affecting one frequency somewhere in the upper mid-range, this came close to being a problem but is thankfully kept at bay and never rose above the level of "minor annoyance" so all-in-all this becomes quite a keepsake memory for fans as it is a highly unusual type of gig.

  • Soundboard 9.1-9.4 - The mix gets tweaked a couple of times during the show but overall it’s a good one.
  • Soundboard/Audience matrix 8.8 - This recording is pretty clean but is just a touch…how would I say, maybe doesn’t highlight the upper high end so it almost sounds like the edges were trimmed on the rock bush. It still delivers a punch to the gut, particularly if you like your drums to rattle your insides a bit because they do here, in a good way.  Overall, this is a real fine set of tunes and is rather long and includes a pre-show interview at the end of the 3rd disc.

  • Dublin 1974 Soundboard 9.4 - This is a sweet one, it’s early in the new year (a year he would tour extensively during), and he’s in the beautiful city of Dublin, possibly thinking maybe this is how he’ll kick off the ambitious tour, and he just kills it!  I would rate the recording higher but for some sizzle on the highs (cymbal crashes, etc.) that don’t hurt the tape so much as they don’t belong on a professionally made for release recording, if indeed that is what this was for. So, that being said you can still dive into this with the full knowledge that it will live up to the rating and then some!

Limerick 1972 Soundboard 8.8 - Sounds like this originates from TV or local radio and suffers from some compression limitations and occasionally drop outs due to sheer age. It’s still professionally recorded, so it’s got bones to work with and you’ll be able to get into it but because it is made for TV (or radio?) there is interruption for interviews – so you have to take this short piece for what it is. It’s filler for the excellent Dublin ’74 and it is fine in that capacity.

  • Audience 8.7 - Better than average, the tape has dynamics to it and even if vocals sound somewhat distant, the bass and guitar have a nice attack with the low end having that chest pounding quality which adds a lot to the electrifying atmospherics. Rory is particularly savage, playing what is probably a really wild crowd since it is where he is from. The performance is worth the entrance fee, the sound quality is good enough to warrant extended engagement. Full disclosure: There is some tape hiss present although it only becomes obvious when the band is not playing. • Audience 9.1 - A fascinating document! Well, for one thing, it has that visceral, thump to your chest power and immediacy while you are immersed in the pit with your bros…but the crowd only makes this better. Such amazing atmosphere! The other thing is that this is NOT your mid 70’s blues guitar pub rock – it is much more along the punk/grunge aesthetic in how Rory is playing and his tone. Sure, he plays a lot of blues, but it does not come across the same as it did in ’74…it comes across as music that can breathe new life into what could be considered a dated musical form.

  • First Show Audience 8.5 - A jagged recording that reflects the kind of music this man played every night. It’s not super clear nor is it muddy, and it’s not dynamic nor is it monophonic. It’s a tape that seems like it has promise, if it was re-mastered I think it could be vastly improved but I like it because it’s so raw and honest…like a bar fight ha ha! The second show is also an audience recording although it is much better coming in at an 8.8 on the ratings scale. Clear, and some better dynamics going on. A good one, and a good show. • Pro Radio Broadcast 8.8 - A fine recording that manages to allow some nice atmosphere into the mix.
  • Audience 8.3 - I find these early club dates fascinating. It sounds closer to Taste than anything he was doing on subsequent tours. The guitar work is more off the cuff, edgier maybe. This recording features a pretty clear and up-front guitar, with vocals next and kick drum following. It’s good, a little hiss present, but to have tapes like this to hear the early period Rory post-Taste is most welcome. • Pro 9.7 - Studio recordings of impeccable quality.
  • Audience 8.9 - Raging electric blues recorded as if you were right there. Fantastic!
  • Audience 8.3 - Somewhat thin and rather raucus, with an outdoor venue quality and perhaps taper somewhere right in the middle – not close up and not too far – but even so, I find the guitar almost too overwhelming and can imagine what it was for the concert-goers that day. So, if you like your guitar really loud, here is your tape. • Audience 8.6 - What is great about this tape is that again you have a situation where the highs are completely intact, in some parts maybe too much, but it lends itself perfectly to EQ’ing since you have no worry about losing highs. Great live energy, a great performance (when does he not?) also.
  • Audience 9.4 - Bright, lively, well-positioned recording that doesn't leave anything out. If anything, I would have preferred even more lower end, that being said the bass itself is detailed and clear. I also, maybe, would have equalized just a little more of the mid band and highs, rolling off them just a touch but this is a GREAT problem to have for an analog tape recording. Putting high end into the spectrum is way much harder to do than removing it. Again though, this is just seasoning to taste and the listener may find it perfect - which technically speaking I admit the frequency range is extremely intact here. • Both Shows - Audience source - 1st source 6.9 2nd source 6.4 -  Historical document! Do not confuse this with being a modern, hi-fi experience because it is most assuredly not. One of only a few 1967 shows in existence, we have two different tape sources for this one, both on one disc. That is cool.
  • Audience 8.4 - A fine document albeit not without limitations. Sound is generally clear, the mix is heavily in favor of Keith’s rhythm guitar, although Mick Taylor is not absent. Mick Jagger is audible, not clearly, but he is audible. Bass sounds pretty good, Charlie is there too but not distinctly. It’s not muddy, really, it’s not close, it’s not far – this is a very good “average” tape if that makes any sense. The Seattle portion (included in this set) is maybe in the 8.7 range, this source being a bit better than the other version we offer here. BTW I think the Midnight Rambler version here is one of the best of the tour. • Studio Quality 9.5 - A fine collection of alternate mixes with a few I’d never heard. You have to be pretty well versed to know what is different on some of these, but yeah, there’s different layers to explore. The Rolling Stones TRACK LIST: 1. Brown Sugar - 4:05 2. "Can't You Hear Me Knocking" is a Mick Taylor live version with Keith Richards recorded in New York '86.
  • Audience 8.8 - I really love this recording, it has great atmosphere, and a lively, raw intensity that gets you completely sucked into the concert. The band are in fine form, the crowd seems to inspire them to great heights. A winner! Maple Leaf Gardens Toronto June 17th, 1975 Disc 1

  • Pro Studio and Pro Live All four volumes are excellent start to finish and even though songs do appear on other releases, there are inevitably always some gems that turn up on these well produced comps that you don’t find elsewhere. I think this one is well worth the effort, and you can cherry pick the volumes or go all in, save some money, and by getting the complete set you get the cool track sheet that does not come with each volume separately. • Audience 9.1 - A great sounding capture that is just a little further back than the previous night…still it’s really good because the dynamic range is wide and warm. The sound mix itself is not heavy on the guitars here, it’s really Mick and drums followed by the low rumble of the bass. Guitars are here just not the spotlight instrument which in my opinion I prefer them front and center. Alas, I found myself able to appreciate the contributions of everyone else for once. • Audience 9.3 - A sweet recording that is so comfortable to listen to, so easy on the ears with a nice rolling bass and present but not obtrusive drums. Mick is above the fray where he should be and guitars swirl and hum beneath him…excellent! • Audience 9.5 - Brilliant! After sound adjustments the PA system just cranks out the best, clearest sound you could hope for. Almost everything is clear and balanced in the mix, I mean it ain’t perfect (for instance we don’t get the best balance between Keith and Ron) but it’s darn good. The sound mix has nothing to do with how well the audio capture is but it factors slightly in the rating. • Studio Quality 9.6 - When you look at these multi-disc sets, you have to wonder if you are just getting the same old stuff recycled over and over again…well, to be sure, there is some song duplication – no way around that. On the other hand, there’s also a lot of stuff that might be new to you, and therein lays the attraction. You have to sometimes just go for it, and in the end you end up with a more complete assemblage of materials. I found this particular set rich with alternate versions and other uncommon outtakes, and well worth the effort. • Studio Quality 8.8 - Some tape hiss present, but the quality is there, makes for an interesting listen to hear a pre-final production version of these songs. When the gloss is removed it sounds like it could have been recorded in the mid ‘70’s. • Soundboard 9.7 - Terrific in every way this one will melt your brain. The engineer mixes this on the fly and works it out during Brown Sugar but there are some cool moments while he figures it out – like some stereo panning, and you’ll hear him juggle the bass a bit, but he gets the mix right and off we go!  The band is flying high…probably literally. • Private recording 8.7 - This is a cool piece of history, and the sound quality does not play that big of a role even though it is decent. It’s kind of loud, a little overloaded in spots, but just because it is raw, it doesn’t mean it ain’t great. I had this on vinyl decades ago and it was one of my favorite boots. It’s just a band, like any other (let’s pretend) jamming away in rehearsal. It’s just the coolest thing. The Rolling Stones '1968 Surrey Rehearsals' R.G.
